This Day In Wrestling History

In Houston, Texas, Vince McMahon creates the WWF "Hardcore Championship" and awards it to Mankind (Mick Foley). Ironically, Mankind would hold the title for less than a month, and never win it back. Despite this, the Hardcore Title is often associated with Foley.

Chris Masters Comments on Triple H's Controversial Crack at his Weight Loss

WrestlingINC.com: When you had come back from that first stint and Triple H made a dig at you about coming back slimmer, was that something you knew ahead of time that he was going to say? Was that scripted, or was that an off-the-cuff remark?

Masters: No, that was a scripted interview. People always ask me about that and some people think it was a cheap shot. I am more under of the impression... first of all, I remember the way Hunter looked at the time... I don't know. I didn't really treat it much as an insult as a lot of people jumped on it like it was that big of a deal, but I was still thinking to myself, you know, you [Triple H] take off your shirt and stand next to me and we'll see who looks better? I mean, you know, he wasn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer either, he is a little pudgy. So, in his defense, Hunter is a ball buster and is an equal opportunity ball buster, so you know, it might have been a cheap shot. I mean, you seen the way him and Shawn are, that's just the way he is, he's a ball buster. So it was probably like not the most appropriate thing to do, especially where the business is and the message they were trying to convey. But you know, it was said and I'm sure if they could take it back - considering the controversy it raised - I am sure they would. But they don't live in the past, so they don't even think about it.

Chris Masters Feels WWE Release Unjustified

Chris (Masters) Mordetzky cites that a speech given by Triple H after WrestleMania XXVI made him see the big picture, realizing that he could offer WWE a lot more than he was doing and that he could be a star.

"I got real hungry once I heard the Triple H speech. He was talking about how well Sheamus had done, Sheamus this, Sheamus that, trying to rally the whole crew and it just clicked with me that I thought I could be the guy that Triple H was talking about, I wanted to kick ass and reach for the brass ring.

"Over the last year and a half I became 100% focused and I was trying to become one of the best in-ring workers that company had. I felt I could do more and that it was my destiny to be in a higher spot in that company, doing something of more substance."

Unfortunately for "The Masterpiece" his dreams of becoming the companies next big star were dashed when he was released from WWE on August 5th. Having received no word on why he was cut loose, Mordetzky still remains confused by the company's decision, especially when at the beginning of the year, Triple H told him of some plans he and Vince McMahon had for him.

"I was pulled aside by Triple H on a couple of occasions and he told me that he and Vince had noticed how much progress I had made in the ring, how they were going to use me in a big way, that they would be taking me off TV for three months and then after that, repackaging my gimmick. All of this seemed very genuine, so I had high hopes.

"I thought I had good things coming, everybody was seemingly realizing how hard I had worked so I thought my time was coming. I can't think of why they released me, maybe I should have taken the initiative and gone to Hunter a few more times with ideas. I wasn't under any impression at all that I was on a chopping block at all...More?

Triple H & Big Show Rib as told by Chris Masters

I’ve got a WWE story a lot of you may get a kick out of!! It was probably the best rib to happen in the ring for me. It was a house show in Louisville, KY where HHH & myself worked against Shawn Michaels & the Big Show. Now I’ve worked these guys on many occasions, but for some reason when going over the match that day the Big Show was very adamant about incorporating this spot into the heat.

He wanted me to lift him for a body slam, but he wanted to land on top of me --basically a failed attempt. So, I couldn’t understand why it was such a priority to do such a basic spot, but he emphasized it a few times before the match. We’re in the heat & he calls for the body slam & I thought ok…let’s do it. Everything went as planned. I lifted him and collapsed under his weight for a 2 count.

I got up to a knee after the pin fall selling the fact that a 500lb man just fell on top of me & next thing I know HHH comes into the ring w/o a tag and starts lecturing me on not being able to lift the Big Show thou I’m the Masterpiece. He begins to scold me in the ring and proceeds to walk to the Big Show and pick him up as if he was light as a feather & body slams him w/ the up most ease. Then goes back into the corner and mocks my poses. THEY GOT ME GOOD!

As the crowd reacted, all I could do was just stand there & sell the fact that I just got one of the best ribs that has ever happened to me. Lol. The whole crowd got a kick of it as I proceeded to stand there in complete disbelieve! Like I said, they got me good. I could hear the chuckles from both in the ring. We laughed about that for at least an hour after the show. It was one of my most memorable memories in the WWE ring & I never saw it coming!
