Jerry Lawler Talks ‘PC’ WWE, ‘Puppies,’ & The Reason He Probably Isn’t On WWE TV Anymore

The latest Dinner with the King features WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler addressing a live crowd at Starrcast during All In weekend.

A fan commented on how he associates Lawler with the word ‘puppies’ and Lawler then directly addressed that:

“The thing with the puppies, I did not coin the phrase. I was not the first one to say the phrase on WWE TV; but, because like you said I am so associated with that word puppies, most people think that way. That is probably the reason I’m not on TV anymore and I mean that seriously because they [WWE] went so politically correct. It’s not necessarily PG because they’re not PG. They’re further south than PG. They’re PC. They’re so politically correct to a fault and especially like they got so right now into – starting with the Revolution – now it’s all about empowering women and that’s a big political correct thing these days and everything, so WWE jumped right on that, so it’s about empowering women. They actually came to us and said, ‘Do not ever say that women are sexy or that they’re good looking or that they’re beautiful. You must treat them exactly like you would a male athlete. You could say that they are powerful, they’re strong, they’re athletic, all this stuff; but, nothing that would be considered sexist at all.”

Lawler then talks about the RAW 25th Anniversary Show when he let the word ‘puppies’ slip early on during the historic live broadcast,

“This is like early on the show and I said, ‘JR [Jim Ross], it’s so nice to be here tonight and we’re gonna go back in time or something and I might even say puppies tonight.’ Immediately I hear [Vince McMahon] in my earphone (grunts), ‘Let’s stay away from that tonight.’ That was the last time it was ever said on there.”

Jerry Lawler Domestic Assault Case Update, Charges Dismissed, Suspension Lifted

Domestic assault charges against Jerry "The King" Lawler and his fiancee, Lauryn McBride, were dropped Friday, reports The Commercial Appeal in Memphis.

Lawler's attorney Ted Hansom said it was "a big misunderstanding and won't happen again. We are happy with the outcome."

Lawler, 66, and McBride, 27, were arrested in Memphis on June 17 after they both accused each other of domestic violence.

In the incident at Lawler's home, McBride claimed Lawler held her against a kitchen counter during a argument. She said he hit her in the front left side of her head and pushed her against a stove. Then he retrieved an unloaded pistol, placed it on the counter and said, "Go ahead and kill yourself."

According to the affidavit, Lawler said they argued over McBride lying about where she had been. He said she was intoxicated and tried to prevent her from leaving in her car. She then scratched the right side of his face, threw a candle at him and kicked him the groin. Lawler alleged that she got the gun from the garage and threatened to kill herself.

Both were arrested when officers could not determine who was the primary aggressor. Lawler was suspended indefinitely by WWE following the arrest. Today, WWE issued the following statement:

"Jerry Lawler's legal matter has been resolved and his suspension has been lifted, effective immediately."

Jerry Lawler Domestic Assault Case Update

As noted, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler and his fiancee Lauryn McBride were arraigned this morning following their domestic dispute early Saturday morning.

Lawler and McBride were ordered by Judge William Turner to "stay away from each other" while the case is ongoing.

"Those are standard bail conditions in a domestic violence case," said Mark Mesler, McBride's attorney. "No contact, no communicating, no texts, no phone calls."

Lawler declined to issue comment on the case. The next court date is July 1st.

Jerry Lawler Speaks Out on Arrest From Jail, Blames Incident on His Girlfriend’s Intoxication

As noted, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler was arrested this morning on domestic violence charges and was subsequently suspended by WWE.

WMC Action News 5 interviewed Lawler while he was in jail, and the 66 year old Smackdown announcer claims he had returned home from a wrestling event which was “ironically [titled] A Night At The Slammer.” He said that his fiancee McBride, 27, returned home a little later intoxicated from a friend’s house after watching Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

“We got into a little bit of a shouting match and then she wanted to leave,” Lawler said. “I was not going to let her leave in the car, because she was just not in any condition to drive. She got more and more upset, she called 9-1-1 and scratched my face in the process. The police came in and said that this was a domestic dispute and that they were ‘going to have to take both of you guys downtown’.

“It’s just an unfortunate situation. Nobody was hit and nobody was hurt. It’s just something that happened as a result of drinking too much,” Lawler said.

Lawler denied reports that he hit McBride in the head and pushed her against the stove. Lawler confirmed that he had an unloaded gun and McBride was threatening to kill herself. He said that she got the gun and threw it to him. He said that he might have put the gun on the counter, but he didn’t tell her to kill herself.

He said that he only has issues with McBride when she drinks, and said that she had an incident last week while she was intoxicated at the CMA Awards and got into a fist fight with her aunt.

“It’s an unfortunate situation as a result of somebody drinking too much. I’m saddened by it and hope we can get past this,” Lawler said.

Jerry Lawler Arrested, Suspended By WWE

Jerry Lawler was arrested at his home Friday morning by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in Memphis, Tenn.

According to WFSB.com, the couple got into an argument that turned violent and involved a gun. McBride told police that Lawler held her against the kitchen counter, hit her in the head, pushed her against a stove, then put a gun on the kitchen counter and told her to kill herself.

Lawler told police the argument started when Lauryn lied about where she had been. Lawler said McBride scratched him in the face, threw a candle at him and kicked him in the groin. He also claimed she was drunk and threatening to kill herself.

Both were arrested when police were unable to determine who started the problems. They were booked into the Shelby County jail around 1am today.

WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.

Jerry Lawler Reportedly Hospitalized This Afternoon In Baltimore

Jerry Lawler was sent to the hospital by WWE officials in Baltimore today after experiencing chest pains and some vomiting. He reportedly did blood work at the hospital and was "fine" at last word.

Prowrestling.net reports that Lawler's son, Brian Christopher, became concerned and alerted WWE officials that something was wrong with his father. WWE then encouraged Lawler to visit the hospital as a precautionary measure.

At last word, Lawler was still in Baltimore but it's unknown if he will be working RAW tonight. A backstage source reported that Lawler was trying to hide it but his son notified officials anyway.

Rumor Mill - The Reason WWE Buried Chris Jericho's 'Highlight Reel'

Last night's edition of the Highlight Reel on RAW did not go well and WWE let the fans at home know it as Michel Cole and Jerry Lawler buried the segment. On air, Cole and Lawler were heard laughing, stating how bad the segment was and asking when it would end so they could go to commercial.

This was a case of Vince McMahon telling Cole and Lawler what to say through the headsets. When segments fall flat on TV and the audience doesn't respond, Vince has been known to bury the segment and those involved on air. Ths happened several months ago with a "Piper's Pit' segment.

Word is that Brad Maddox is the one that will most likely take the majority of the heat, as it was his part of the segment that most felt got awkward and embarrassing. Despite that, Triple H is very high on Maddox and he's the main reason he's featured on TV right now.
