Ric Flair Appears At NWA 73

Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair returned home at tonight's NWA 73 event in St. Louis.

Flair thanked a number of people including Vince McMahon, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, and Steve Austin. He told Vince McMahon, "I love you. That’s why I’m here" and said that as long as he is alive he will never let people forget about the NWA which made him a star back in the day.

Flair mentioned that Vince knows this is where he belongs. He thanked Triple H for not giving up on him during his time in WWE and mentioned the NWA Title is hanging in Triple H’s office. Flair said Shawn Michaels and Taker carried him at the age of 59. Flair said that Steve Austin always asks him to tell NWA stories.

He went on to tell a Harley Race story and mention some of the greats of NWA. He also thanked Randy Orton and Bob Orton and wants Randy to one day to break his prestigious title record. He also mentioned his kids.

Flair also had praise for NWA owner Billy Corgan and joked about how he thought the company wanted him to challenge Worlds Champion Nick Aldis.  Flair hit the ropes and then did his strut and said that Corgan only wanted him to talk and not get back in the ring.

Steve Austin Comments On Working With Triple H, Reflects On The Two-Man Power Trip

Steve Austin appeared on Drew McIntyre’s “Drew & A” interview series which aired on Peacock and the WWE Network this week. During the episode, he shared his thoughts on Triple H.

“I love working with Triple H,” Austin said. “We hit it off when he came down to WCW way back in the day. We didn’t travel roads together but we were on the same page. We both loved bodybuilding, powerlifting. He’s a great worker, good mind for the business.”

“But Triple H, a great mind for the game,” Austin continued. “I picked his opinion on many different things, and asked his opinion on many different things when I was on my run, and one of my ideas as a heel that I wanted to do was form a tag team with him, and call it The Two-Man Power Trip. We were really, really trying to get some heat, laying some heavy steel chairs down on The Undertaker, Kane, Hardys, Lita, my God.

“We were doing everything we could in my alliance with him, which kind of ensured that I was headed in a heat direction, and then fate hit one night in a tag match on Monday Night RAW, and he blew out that quad, and that was the end of that, And he made a successful comeback, obviously he’s had one of the greatest runs in the history of the business, but a guy that’s a lot of fun to be in the ring with.”

Steve Austin Comments On Why NXT Is Better Than Raw and SmackDown Live

Stone Cold Steve Austin has never been one to shy away from giving his opinion on WWE and has often been vocal about how the company could improve its product.

He was recently joined by former WWE Superstar Sean Waltman, better known as X-Pac on his Steve Austin Show. During the show both discussed NXT and why they feel it is better than Raw and SmackDown Live. Austin felt the show was a throwback to a more classic pro-wrestling product and felt the main shows tend to get very complicated with regards to story telling.

“The thing I like about the NXT thing is it’s almost like [Waltman] said, the main roster is almost trying to cover or cater to everybody. And to me, the NXT thing is more… they are both under the same umbrella, it’s WWE, it’s sports entertainment. It ain’t pro wrestling anymore. Now, it’s sports entertainment officially, but in my mind, it’s still pro wrestling. And to me, NXT, yeah, it’s kind of like a throwback. And it’s all modern stuff, great lighting, great production values, everything else, but the storylines are very easy to understand and very simple. And, I mean, the announcers aren’t trying to go overboard trying to explain whatever’s going on.” Austin added, “sometimes when I watch the main roster stuff, it’s like they’re trying to play to so many people that the storylines get kind of convoluted.”

Steve Austin Talks Famous WWE Tour Bus Pic, Triple H Not Drinking

During a recent edition of the Steve Austin Show (transcript via wrestlinginc.com), Austin talked about an old photo taken during a WWE European tour, which features many of the wrestlers hanging out at the back of a tour bus…

On The Below Picture: “We [were] on a gig over there in Europe, having a damn good time, and wrestling our ass off, putting asses in the seats. Guys were laying their stuff in and the business was on fire. That’s what it was.” Austin said, “the picture is probably from, it was ’97 or ’98. I’m almost positive. And this was, we were on a tour. We were over in Germany and over in the U.K., either one. I don’t remember which country we were in, but it was on that tour because we would go to Germany for seven days, and then, we’d go to the U.K. for seven days, or vice versa. And this is the back of a tour bus. And, I tell you what, we we’re traveling with two tour buses. Normally, it was heels on one bus, and babies on the other bus.”

On Everyone Drinking But Triple H: “It’s a circular table back there and you see in the picture, damn near everybody has a beer. The beers are all covered up because there are so many arms. Henry Godwinn has got a bottle of Jack [Daniels] and we were passing that thing around.” Austin added, “there are 11 people crowded around this table. Not everybody was in the back of the bus. Not everybody was in on the party thing. There are a lot of guys in all the seats up ahead, so, man, we probably had a crew of guys, man, probably 30 strong. Everybody on the damn back of the bus was drinking, except Triple H. Only every now and then would Triple H would have a drink with the boys because the dude just doesn’t drink and he’s into his body and his physique.”

Steve Austin Comments On How NXT Is Getting It Right

"I think it's basically the simplicity of the show. I mean, you've got these angles that are wrestling-based, announcers staying within the system. They're not talking about anything going on in pop culture. If you go back several months, Corey [Graves] made the comment that Bobby Roode had flown because he wanted to spend the least amount of time in Manhattan as possible. So just sticking within those parameters, the announcing I think is a little better on the NXT front right now. Just the action in the ring, it's a better look, it's dimmed down a little bit, it's not too dark – I thought Lucha Underground was too dark this year from a visual standpoint. I like the production values. I like their entrance music. I like what they're doing in the ring. Of course, they've got one of my favorite tag team in The Revival."

Old Video Of Triple H Beating Up Fan After Match, Steve Austin Talking About The Incident

Above is the video that we discussed on the Wrestling Inc. podcast last night that's been going viral of Triple H attacking a fan in the 90s after a match with Steve Austin.

The incident took place in the late 90s in Germany. In the video, Austin defeated Triple H with the Stone Cold Stunner. After the match, a fan hit the ring and tried to attack Austin. Triple H hit the fan with a hell of a suplex, and then proceeded to drop punches on him. Referee Mike Chioda decided to join in and laid the boots to the fan. Triple H held the fan down and dropped (worked?) punches until officials dragged the fan away.

While the incident took place in the 90s, the video was only uploaded to YouTube this past January, and it's the first time that I can recall seeing it. Steve Austin had discussed the incident on his podcast in 2013.

"I was just about to celebrate and somebody tackles me from behind and takes me down and starts punching me," Austin recalled. Austin said that he thought it was a rib by one of the boys in the back, but it was a "rambunctious fan" that was cheering for Triple H and got upset.

"When you're in the ring with a cat - and I was a babyface, Triple H was the heel - you're always looking out for your guy's back," Austin said. "Triple H - stand up cat - he picked that dude up, slammed him and started punching his lights out!"

Austin said that Triple H was yelling at security to get over there, but security was confused because it happened so fast. Austin noted that he couldn't do anything and help beat the fan up because he was the babyface and that he always gave Triple H credit for doing that. Austin is all for fans being vocal at shows, but if they crossed the railing back then, they were fair game. Still, Austin admitted to finding the incident to be "hilarious."

"It was hilarious," Austin noted. "I always appreciated Triple H for standing up for me and watching my back."

Steve Austin On Why WWE Stars Are Getting Injured

Steve Austin recently spoke to FOX Sport about the recent injury plague that has hit WWE and his theory as to why it has happened:

“I just think that, when you look at the game of professional football it’s sped up so much more than it used to be. The guys are bigger, faster, stronger, and I think the same kind of goes with WWE. I think the guys and the gals are working harder and faster, and are more athletic than they ever were. So the athletic sequences are so risky.”

Steve Austin And Ric Flair On His Legacy, Vince McMahon And Triple H Relationships, Charlotte, More

Steve Austin's pre-recorded "Stone Cold Podcast" with Ric Flair kicks off on the WWE Network from Austin's Broken Skull Ranch in south Texas. Austin says it's hot as hell and he's got the greatest pro wrestler on God's green Earth in front of him. Flair jokes about how far out Austin's ranch is and asks how he went from Los Angeles to being 100 miles away from anything. Austin says it's relaxing and he dedicates two months to staying there and getting away.

Austin says he believes Flair is the greatest ever to lace up a pair of boots and Flair thanks him. Austin asks about Flair calling himself a "black market baby" in his book. Flair says he was "stolen" from a hospital and put into an orphanage. He's never met his original parents and never wanted to. He was adopted and moved to Detroit, later told at age 10 that he was adopted. Flair says it didn't bother him as a kid and he didn't think about it. He says he has an ex-wife who is still upset that he never looked into his real family. He says his mom and dad were great and probably didn't understand the kind of kid they were taking on. Austin asks if Flair was a little crazy growing up. Flair says in 9th grade, he was going to either private school or detention school. He was driving his parents' motorcycle and car around while they were away, and got caught trying to buy liquor. He went to a private school in Wisconsin and said within two days, he was handed a fake ID that said he was 18 years old.

Flair talks about selling life insurance before getting into pro wrestling. He sold a bunch of his friends $10,000 policies and was "riding high" or living good. Flair says still to this day, he has a hard time understanding what moderation means. Flair talks about trying pro wrestling out and says he quit after the first two days of training but Verne Gagne made him get back in and not give up. He wanted to use the name Ramblin' Ricky Rhodes and go as Dusty Rhodes' brother but Verne said that wasn't happening and he's been using Ric Flair from the beginning. He says he was making $1,000 per week within a month and back then, that was big money. Flair says he went and bought a black four-door Cadillac Fleetwood. Austin brings up the tragic plane crash in 1975 that broke Flair's back. Flair says they hit the ground going 230 mph and the seat belt held him but was part of what caused his back injury. Flair was back in the ring 8 months later after being told he would never wrestle again. He was still paid weekly by Crockett Promotions while at home in bed. Flair knew a a month and a half later he would return one day.
