Matt Bloom Reveals What WWE Looks For in Their Trainers

WWE Performance Center trainer Matt Bloom recently spoke to Sports Illustrated and revealed what exactly WWE looks for in a trainer:

“A lot of people don’t understand that just because you were a great wrestler does not automatically make you a great coach, but that is true,” Bloom said. “What I’m looking for in a coach is, first of all, if they can fit into our team. This is the best team in the game. We have Norman Smiley, who is an encyclopedia of moves, and we also have Terry Taylor and Shawn Michaels here teaching. We have Steve Corino and Adam Pearce here. They had some companies behind them when they worked, but they never had WWE behind them, yet they still kept their names prominent around the world and accomplished that by doing it the right way. Scotty Too Hotty is Scott Taylor, and he’s a kid from Maine who did pretty well in this business. He knows what he’s doing, and he has the entertainment side of this well understood. We have an amazing team who complement each other very well.”

He added, “We look for character in the coaches. What type of person are you? Are you patient? How will you represent us? Do you understand that this is not a race? This is a marathon, not a sprint. We have talent here from all over the world, most of whom have relocated and left their families behind. We need our coaches to be caring and understanding toward that. We need to realize that everyone isn’t always going to grasp a concept on a particular day, so can you pick people up and dust them off so that they can understand better the next day? Also, everyone realizes that there is simply no room for complacency. That cannot exist here and it is not allowed. We know we don’t want you here if you’re not a good person. No ego and a lot of humility. No one is bigger than the team. We all complement each other so well.”

Rumor Mill - Details on Shawn Michaels Accepting a New WWE PC Job

Shawn Michaels has been offered a full-time role as a coach down at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, to lead talents in their “finishing classes”. HBK was reportedly offered the role to substitute for Terry Taylor, who has been absent from the WWE PC following neck surgery.

PWInsider.com has since updated its story noting a “highly placed source” has informed them the HBK – WWE deal is not yet done, and Michaels is not at the WWE PC today nor is he scheduled to be at the PC this week. Michaels has had two appearances as a guest coach at the PC as of late, and the “ball is in his court” if he wants to accept the full-time job. Apparently the hold up right now is the decision Michaels will have to make to relocate his family from Texas to Florida.

Terry Taylor & Michael "PS" Hayes Receive Awards

The 2014 Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion took place this weekend at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with many wrestling legends in attendance. Gerald Brisco presented Michael "PS" Hayes with the Lou Thesz Award, which is a lifetime achievement award and Jim Ross presented Terry Taylor with the Iron Mike Award, the CAC's top honor.

Ross noted in a blog last week that WWE had 4 tables reserved for the reunion. We've heard in the past that WWE had reserved 1 or 2 tables but never 4. No word yet on who attended on their behalf.

Booker T Praises Efforts of Fit Finlay and Terry Taylor

"Having a guy like Fit, who is so knowledgeable, teaching the guys the art of the business is essential. Then having a guy like Terry Taylor, someone who has been around so long and has done so much, as well as giving his life to the wrestling business, is great. It's also great having mentors – they're carpenters who really don't mind giving back to this business. That's what it's all about – keeping things moving forward – but a lot of the guys tend to want to keep that knowledge to themselves."

Update on WWE Recruitment

Within WWE, recruiting is now the highest priority it has been since more than a decade ago when WWE had the original strong class in Ohio Valley Wrestling. Gerald Brisco and Canyon Ceman, a recent Triple H hire, were recruiting new talents this past week at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. They were specifically looking at wrestlers, weightlifters and track athletes. Brisco was highest on a bobsled racer who he thought had a great look and who loved wrestling. The racer is the pusher for his bobsled team and may want to wait until after the 2014 Winter Games.

WWE had Triple H, Pat Patterson, Terry Taylor and Dean Malenko, among others, at the recent WWE NXT TV tapings to scout talents and help teach.

Rumor Mill - Proposed Role for Terry Taylor In WWE

Terry Taylor is being brought back by WWE for a new developmental job near WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT. The proposed role for Taylor is heading up something of a “finishing school” – a place where the top guys in FCW will be coached by him more individually before going to the main roster. The plan is to take around 10 or so of the best guys in developmental, the ones closest to being called up, and give them to Taylor for new ideas before their debut.

Rumor Mill - TNA Tries to Cover Up Reason for Terry Taylor's Departure

TNA Wrestling's announcement on May 23 that Terry Taylor, Director of Talent Relations, made the decision to leave the organization, is reportedly a cover excuse.

The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Taylor was fired by the organization on May 20. It is believed that he was let go due to allegations made against him in a lawsuit filed by a former performer.

The report adds that it may not necessarily be Shannon Spruill's (a/k/a Daffney) lawsuit against the organization, although his name was implicated.

Taylor and creative writer Vince Russo pressured Daffney into performing a spot at the October 18, 2009 pay-per-view event Bound for Glory in which she would go through a board covered with barbed wire, reasoning that it was important for the ongoing feud between Abyss and Mick Foley. Daffney, who was hesitant on the idea, was assured that she would be fine and taken care of. She agreed to perform the spot, which resulted in her being chokeslammed from the ring apron by Abyss onto a board covered with barbed wire. She suffered a concussion taking the maneuver and was taken to an Orlando area hospital via ambulance. Furthermore, Spike TV wouldn't allow TNA to air the spot during iMPACT! due to their policy on men-on-women violence.

Daffney's trip to the emergency room resulted in a substantial medical bill, which Taylor stalled TNA from paying and ultimately was not. The lawsuit also claims she was pressured to continue performing after suffering two additional concussions. She suffered a concussion after being hit on the head with a toolbox by Tara following their match on the February 18, 2010 episode of iMPACT!. On April 20, 2010, she was injured in a dark match against an obese green worker by the name of Miss Betsy and was taken to an Orlando area hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion, as well as a deeply bruised sternum and a severe stinger.

Chief Financial Officer Dean Broadhead will oversee contractual matters while former WWE executive Bruce Prichard will handle Taylor's remaining duties.
