JR On Triple H As A Boss

Jim Ross was recently a guest on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast where he talked about what it's like having Triple H as a boss.

Jim Ross returned to call the No Holds Barred Match between The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33. It was Undertaker's retirement match and the beginning of a two-year agreement JR signed to return to the company, a new agreement which now features Triple H as his boss.

"I gave [Triple H] the nickname of the 'Cerebral Assassin' because it fit his character as a wrestling heel, and a smart, cagey, kind of a deadly planner, or strategist that has the physical skills to be very dangerous," said Ross. "Hence, the Cerebral Assassin came about once while he was coming down the entrance on TV. Vince loved it, and Triple H has obviously embraced it, and it became his calling card. The Game was the best in a lot of areas; when DX could be 'challenging' to deal with, at that point of their lives, and the decisions that they were making, their lifestyle, their road schedule, the wealth that was coming their way; most of those guys that were making seven-figures plus a year."

"Whenever I had issues, I didn't feel as though I needed to play the trump card, and I needed somebody to address within that vicinity, Triple H was always the guy to go to because he was a good communicator and can communicate with his rowdy friends, so we got things taken care of. We knew he was going to be a good leader; he had a good vision, a good feel, and could always add things to any scenario to make it better. Here is the key thing; he had the ability to look at other people's storyline and angles and make viable suggestions to make what they were doing better. Most top guys had the ability to do it themselves, but they're not as forthcoming to do it for others to get them over because of the paranoia, anxiety and insecurities that people have in those regards. People feel as though they cannot acknowledge their competition."

Paige & Alberto Del Rio Talk Recent Airport Incident, Paige's Family Abuse Claims, Wrestling Returns

WWE Superstar Paige and Unified Global Force Wrestling (GFW) World Heavyweight Champion Alberto El Patron (a.k.a. Alberto El Patron) recently joined Bully Ray and Dave Lagreca on Busted Open Radio to talk about the recent airport incident that took the media by storm. Below are the highlights:

* Paige started things off by claiming that she and Alberto are able to laugh about the incident now, despite the 'nightmare' the media made it out to be initially. Paige said she and Alberto shouldn't be ashamed of having an argument in public the way normal couples do, and people need to relax. Del Rio said they refuse to be like celebrities, they just want to live their lives normally. He then said that people see this every day, couples argue, and the media just spread a bunch of lies and stories that aren't real. Del Rio said he and Paige have strong personalities but they leave everything to talk, they love each other and are very passionate.

Shawn Michaels On His Role At The WWE PC, Who He Enjoys In NXT, The Future Of Wrestling

Shawn Michaels spoke with Channel Guide Magazine on a number of wrestling topics as he promotes his current film, Pure Country: Pure Heart. Here are some of the highlights:

His role at the WWE Performance Center:

"I would clearly define my role if my role was clearly defined and knew what it was, but I don't. That has sort of been the way I have been most of my life, most of my career. I just hang around so often that people just eventually are too afraid to tell me to leave. So, I've been hanging around for quite some time at the Performance Center. It's one thing to sit there and watch things back on film and do your best to help people here and there or address certain things. I think eventually you have to get out there and get a feel for everything that is going on. That was one of the reasons why I wanted to come out on the road. I wanted to get to know the talent a lot better, but also have a better understanding of what they're doing and how the process goes. I also wanted to get a feel for the crowds. The crowds are different from town to town, city to city and state to state. So, I feel the better I know the better I can help and be an asset to not only the talent, but Matt [Bloom], Sara [Amato] and Hunter [Paul Levesque] who have worked so hard to make the Performance Center and NXT a successful product."

The future of wrestling:

"I leave the opinions about the wrestling business where it has been, where it's going and where it needs to go or doesn't to the podcast guys and reporters. I enjoy the future. I'm not a good old-timer. I'm excited about the future. I'm excited about to see if there is anything I can do to help bring that along in a way that is conducive to the wrestling business and WWE and WWE fans in general. It's going to continue. Their opinions are always going to be all over the place. They always have been. I think the only difference is I think maybe people hear about it more now than we did. That's the wonderful thing about technology. I'm not the all-knowing or seeing on the wrestling business. Quite honestly, I always think that what I think really doesn't mean much. I've never bought a wrestling ticket in my life or haven't bought one since I was 12 years old. So, it's certainly not me they are looking to bring in the building. I just don't like to into all the opinions of it. The wrestling business is a wonderful line of work. It has been great to me and my family over the last 30 years. I'm now getting to be in WWE movies and things of that nature. I'm just all about helping this next generation try to achieve their dreams like I was blessed to have the opportunity to do."

Who he enjoys currently in NXT:

"I like Roddy Strong, Aleister Black, Johnny Gargano, Velveteen Dream, Heavy Machinery, Authors of Pain, Sanity, they are all just a number of young talent out there. Ember Moon and Asuka, as well. There are just numerous people out there. The wrestling business is ripe with a great deal of young, up-and-coming talent. To me, that is exciting. I got way too positive of an outlook to jump into all the other stuff."

Vince McMahon & WWE Execs On WWE Earnings, Network Success, China, The Mae Young Classic, More

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, Chief Strategy and Financial Officer George Barrios, Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer Michelle Wilson and SVP Financial Planning & Investor Relations Michael Weitz are hosting a Second Quarter 2017 earnings call today from WWE headquarters in Stamford. Below are highlights:

Weiss opens the call and welcomes us with the basics. Vince McMahon takes over and says they are pleased with execution of strategy to optimize longtime value of their content. He touts some of the numbers from the press release, including live event revenue, WWE Network revenue and subscribers. Vince touts The Mae Young Classic and says it's one of the things Triple H is putting together for the company, as he did with the Cruiserweight Classic. Vince says The MYC is the chance to bring up young female performers, which is vital to their overall product. He says many of their quarter-hours of TV programming reflect success for the female performers. Vince says one of the things he looks at for overall interest in a product is digital video views and they had 9.1 billion views in this part of the year, which is extraordinary. He also touts social media followers and says that's a tremendous indication of overall interest. He also touts global sponsorship and how blue-chip sponsors like KFC, Nestle, AT&T and others have joined them. He plugs the September live event in China and says their strategy in China is looking good. He also plugs some of their international TV deals before turning it over to Barrios.

Happy Birthday Paul
