Politics of TV wrestling

Millions watch scripted television wrestling each week, but uncharacteristically, there is actually a television station that does not always play by the numbers. In the fall 2005, UPN took one of its most popular shows - WWE SmackDown! - and moved it from Thursday to Friday nights, which is a television death wish.

Unhappy with the move, WWE still trumped UPN by drawing more viewers on Friday nights. Prior to the announcement of morphing into the CW Network, in January 2006, UPN extended the contract with WWE for two more years.

CW mucky-mucks did not want WWE SmackDown!, but the contract existed. Even though WWE continued to draw viewers on Friday nights, CW dropped WWE when the contract expired...More?
