Kia Stevens, who WWE fans will remember as Kharma from a WWE run that was more build than action (but that did provide us with a cool Royal Rumble moment back in 2012), has informed Japanese fans that she will not be working an upcoming show in Korakuen Hall that she was scheduled to appear in on November 25.
According to the letter published in Japanese on-line that's because she will retire at age 38. Stevens, who is much better known by the name she worked under outside of WWE, Awesome Kong, states in the announcment that doctors suggested she hang up her boots. And because she doesn't feel she can perform at the level fans expect of her, she is following their suggestion.
Kong returned to TNA, where she's probably experienced the most success with two Knockouts titles and a run with the tag belts over her three years there from 2007 - 2010, earlier this year. Reports started circulating almost immediately that she was struggling with a bad back and other ailments accumulated throughout her career. Though she still made an impression with her natural charisma and knowing how to work a compelling match - especially with frequent rival Gail Kim - her ring work was noticeably effected by whatever injuries with which she was coping.

Former WWE Diva Kharma on whether her release was appropriate, whether she's interest in returning to TNA, nearly quitting before WWE offered her a job
Diva Dirt interview with TNA Knockout Kharma
Interview available at Diva-Dirt.com.
On being offered a job by WWE in December 2010: "I did not see it coming. I was actually about 14 days away from announcing my retirement in wrestling. I got a call. I'll never forget, I was sick with a cold and I got a call from Tommy Dreamer and he asked if he could give my number to John Laurinaitis. And I said, 'Um, yeah!' Five minutes later I got a call from John Laurinaitis who spoke with me and offered me a position at WWE. I don't think I closed my mouth for a good 20 days."
On her WWE release: "Sometimes things aren't moving along as quickly as they need to be, and some things weren't progressing as quickly as they should have been. I think the release was actually a good idea and very appropriate. WWE, the world knows they don't just hire anyone. If they hire you, they're going to invest in you. They're going to apply any and every resource they have for anything that you're going through, so having said that, again, the timing just was there. My release was, in my opinion, appropriate."
On whether she would return to TNA: "I do appreciate the opportunities I was given by TNA, Dixie Carter and Terry Taylor. I appreciate my time there, it was good... until it wasn't. [Laughs] No [communication] whatsoever with them. I'm very grateful, they're the ones that introduced me to the U.S. market, but that time is gone."

Update on Kharma
The latest word on Kharma is that she is indeed finished with WWE. It's being said that she was telling people that WWE officials weren't sure what to do with her. They absolutely intended on bringing her back at one point, but those plans just fell through for whatever reasons. She was given time off for her pregnancy and to recover from her miscarriage, and she had recently begun training very hard to get back into shape, but again, the latest word is that she has been or is going to be officially released by WWE soon.

Trish Stratus vs. Kharma?
Semi-retired former WWE Diva Trish Stratus says the one opponent she wants to have a match with is Kharma, who has been off TV for several months after a memorable WWE TV debut earlier this year. "When she debuted, I think it was one of the first times since I retired where I would have dropped it all to go back and step into the ring with her," Stratus told WWE's website in an interview promoting her inclusion in the new "WWE '12" video game. "That would have been an epic rivalry. I would have loved to have wrestled her. Hopefully, she’ll come back so the WWE Universe can see more of her."

Update on Kharma's Push
WrestleZone has learned exclusively that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is watching the crowd reaction to Kharma, the former Awesome Kong, and he's noticing the potential for a truly groundbreaking female character in WWE.
According to a key WWE insider, talent executive John Laurinaitis instructed the producers (formerly road agents) of the house shows this past weekend to have Kharma attack Eve Torres to see if the audience would react to Kharma as a heel. From what we were told, the live audience popped big for the beat down, but it's unclear whether they were "just reacting," or "reacting to Kharma as a heel." Either way, Vince knows right now that the fans are reacting to her as "a star."
Kharma, real name Kia Stevens, attacked heel Michelle McCool (real life wife of The Undertaker) at the Extreme Rules pay per view, and Maryse on Monday Night Raw to tremendous fan reaction.
It should be noted that Paul Heyman's comparison of Kharma's debut to Brock Lesnar's WWE debut was definitely noticed by people within WWE. "Vince knows he has something and someone special now, a brand new character who has captured people's attention," our key insider told us this evening, "and he's determined to make as big an impact with Kharma as possible. Very few people debut with this amount of momentum, and Vince sees nothing but dollar signs in Kharma."
