Decline In DVD Sales & Rampant Piracy Force Indy Wrestling To Internet Pay-Per-View
The move to all-digital distribution is already well under way, and it poses a problem for businesses that have based themselves around the sale of shiny plastic discs. That, combined with the rampant piracy of these discs when they’re released has particularly hurt independent pro-wrestling organizations (to pick something out of thin air). Gabe Sapolsky, vice-president of Dragon Gate USA, owner of Evolve, and former head booker of Ring of Honor, was recently interviewed on Figure Four Daily, a podcast dedicated to pro-wrestling and MMA news, and said that the only way these companies will survive is if a new technology, Internet Pay-Per-View, becomes viable...More?

Vince Mails Bysiewicz, Reporters WWE Swag
Several reporters covering the U.S. Senate race this morning received a surprise – a box of World Wrestling Entertainment merchandise compliments of company head Vince McMahon, husband of Republican candidate Linda McMahon.
According to a brief letter from Vince, these items were also shipped to Democratic Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, who recently clashed with WWE over whether its merchandise is too-closely associated with Linda to be allowed inside polling places on Election Day Tuesday.
Democrats have charged that Vince and Linda in recent weeks have been illegally using WWE to try and bolster her campaign.
But it’s pretty clear Vince, who with his wife built WWE into an international empire after purchasing a much smaller wrestling operation from his father in the early 1980s, sees a marketing opportunity. Yesterday the company announced it will hand out free WWE swag outside of select polling sites.

WWE Superstars Results: Reks in Effect
After brutalizing Kaval and stealing his spot on Team SmackDown on the Oct. 15 edition of SmackDown, Tyler Reks made it clear to the WWE Universe that he was here to make a serious impact. The dreadlocked devastator brought this focus to “WWE Superstars,” but he was locking up with a much larger opponent in the form of Chris Masters. As a man who could top Reks in the power department, The Masterpiece had the ability to stop the destructive Superstar, but Reks refused to be outdone. Displaying some serious strength of his own, the California native was able to hoist Masters above his head and slam him to the mat for a commanding victory. Full results.

'Hard Knocks' DVD Aims to Show Wrestling's Passion and Artistry
Professional wrestling is a sport that is often misunderstood by large amounts of people, seeing wrestling as nothing more than a fake sport which they look down upon. Ridicule is something that the business has had to endure for years even though the majority that poke fun know next to nothing about it.
But a 23-year-old filmmaker is attempting to change those perceptions with his documentary Hard Knocks, a 40-minute film that aims to show the passion and desire of the men and women who put their body on the line every time they enter the squared circle.
"I guess the reason why wrestling is badly misunderstood is because on the one hand people are being told 'it's a sport' then on the other that it's 'entertainment' and 'predetermined.' People just don't know how to approach it is it real or fake?
"It's both. Wrestling is a sport, but it's non-competitive, it's a performance. Similarly when you watch a film, watching wrestling is all about suspending your disbelief. Nobody ever complains that films are fake."...More?

CT Capitol Report Poll Has Blumenthal Lead Down to 8
A new poll conducted by the Merriman River Group for CT Capitol Report finds that the U.S. Senate race is closer than other recent surveys have suggested.

Though the margin is far closer than a Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday that put Blumenthal's lead at 12 percentage points, McMahon continues to face a considerable uphill battle, Matthew Fitch, executive director of the poll, said...More?

Isn’t the Criticism of Triple H a Little Too Much?
From the Q&A section on pwinsider.com:
"Not to sound like another Hunter conspiracy theorist, but why do I get the feeling with Triple H’s return on the horizon, we’ll soon be seeing Nexus eat 7 Pedigree’s and Sheamus take a seat at the back of the line"
As you mentioned, he put over Sheamus huge not too long ago and correct me if I’m wrong, but he has been putting people over at mania forever. For example, he lost to Taker during the biker run, Batista beat him for the title, he tapped out to Benoit to lose a title, and he tapped out to Cena with the championship on the line. People should give the guy a break.
Years ago or so, it probably wasn't too much. Before HHH married into the McMahon family HHH was your regular top guy with a lot of influence over Vince McMahon and a lot of people no longer with the company swear that he wielded influence strongly. Then when he first married in, a lot of people felt it was just a matter of time until he won the World Title enough times to hold the record. But that was then. This is now. In the interim HHH hasn't done that. He has put over talents. When the company needed it, he reformed DX. I think people need to get out of the past and update their thinking where HHH is concerned.

Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Fight Overshadowed By Undertaker?
Mixed martial arts fans are talking about it, pro wrestling fans are talking about it: the bizarre post-fight confrontation between newly-dethroned UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and longtime pro wrestling superstar The Undertaker.

Republicans Upset Over Connecticut Move to Limit WWE Gear at the Polls
Republicans lashed out Friday after the Connecticut secretary of state said poll workers would have the right to ask voters wearing World Wrestling Entertainment merchandise to cover up because it could be considered campaigning.
State Republicans reacted angrily to the news, releasing a statement entitled: "Bysiewicz Loses Mind; Clothing Ban Has No Merit."
"There is nothing to suggest that any other clothing, where it's promoting NASCAR, a brewery or a college, should inhibit or inconvenience someone from casting their vote. And Bysiewicz knows at outright ban would be challenged quickly in the courts and overturned," the statement said.

Lucha VaVOOM is a non-stop, action-packed scream-a-thon where Mexican masked wrestlers flip and fly, performing acrobatic feats as lovably absurd characters with names like Dirty Sanchez, Chupacabra and Shamu Jr. If this is not enough to get your ass off that comfy couch, complete with butt groove, then perhaps more information might entice you!
In between matches, the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world delight the crowds because the folks at Lucha VaVOOM like a little sexo with their violencia! Go here http://www.vimeo.com/14505616 to watch the promo video for the upcoming Halloween shows at LA's Mayan Theater, October 27 and 28. Don't say I didn't warn you, though. Enjoy...More?

WWE Superstars Results: Evil Urges
There was no shortage of ego on display when the sinister WWE Tag Team Champions battled The Ballin’ Superstar and The Masterpiece in non-title action. Although their coveted championships were not on the line, Rhodes & McIntyre didn’t plan on being embarrassed by their talented opponents and used every underhanded trick in the rule breaker book to guarantee victory. Still, the arrogant duo’s biggest advantage proved to be their experience. When the action reached a fever pitch with all four Superstars in the ring, Rhodes had the presence of mind to identify MVP as the legal man and nail him with the dreaded Cross Rhodes to score a huge win. Vince McMahon Thanks the WWE Universe for Standing Up
WWE Defends Itself
Due to what the WWE considers malicious and misleading attacks reported by some members of the media, the company on Monday began a global initiative to defend itself called “Stand Up for WWE” which has resulted in yet more false allegations.
“World Wrestling Entertainment will not be bullied or intimidated by whining allegations intended to censor our freedom of speech,” said Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO of WWE.
WWE will fervently fight against any attempt to muzzle or trample its First Amendment rights. Our fans, employees and performers are united in this grassroots effort to “Stand Up for WWE.”
Complaint Filed Against Linda McMahon for New WWE Campaign
The Connecticut Democratic State chairwoman Nancy DiNardo has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission to determine whether Linda McMahon’s Senate campaign is responsible for the new “Stand Up for WWE” campaign. DiNardo issued a statement earlier this week claiming that WWE was unfairly trying to get voters to vote for McMahon. McMahon campaign spokesman Ed Patru calls the complaint “utterly baseless” and says the campaign doesn’t coordinate with WWE.
Big Show Praised In "Knucklehead" Movie Review
Those multi-media moguls at World Wrestling Entertainment haven’t quite got the hang of this “family friendly” turn they’ve taken with their motion picture division. But with “Knucklehead,” a road picture “get him to the big brawling tournament” comedy, we see hints of promise. It’s every bit as formulaic as their first stab at this audience — “Legendary.” But it goes down easier thanks to a lighter tone, some laugh-out-loud moments, and a charismatic turn by a WWE star who isn’t John Cena.
The film stars man mountain Paul “The Big Show” Wight, and the big BIG guy is funny and not just funny looking. He’s the title character, a 35 year old hulk still living in the orphanage where he grew up. He’s naive, but not simple, gentle but clumsy. He fits right in with this broad, low, fart-joke comedy about a self-described “knucklehead.”...More?

Democrats Charge ‘Stand Up for WWE’ Campaign Reeks of McMahon Coordination
World Wrestling Entertainment is taking the fight to Democratic Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal, a move that provoked immediate criticism from Democrats and questions of illegal coordination.
In a campaign launched last night and expected to run through Election Day, Vince McMahon — husband of Republican Senate hopeful and WWE co-founder Linda McMahon — tries to harness the power of his organization to refute Blumenthal’s repeated criticism of the multi-billion dollar wrestling organization.
“It had absolutely nothing to do with the Linda McMahon campaign,” Zimmerman said. “It’s trying to correct inaccuracies that have been reported. ... The attention that’s been put on WWE by Linda’s opponents have focused media attention on the company.”
The Connecticut Democratic Party lashed out at the initiative. “Linda McMahon’s $50 million attack machine now has corporate reinforcements, thanks to the ‘Stand up for WWE’ campaign launched by her husband Vince McMahon. No coincidence, it looks a lot like her political campaign... except this one is probably against the law,” reads a statement from the state party that refers to federal election law that prohibits corporations from coordinating with political campaigns...More?

USA Network Looking to Bring Back WWE Tough Enough
It was back at the beginning of the decade when the WWE decided to try its hand in reality television with the "Tough Enough" show.
Now it looks like the show is about to make a return.
Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the USA Network is close to ordering "Tough Enough" in an effort to make a big push in reality programming.
The show originally aired for three seasons on MTV from 2001-03 before being canceled. It lasted one more season as part of "SmackDown" on UPN before it ended.
"Tough Enough" featured participants -- both men and women -- going through wrestling training in hopes of winning a WWE contract. Each had to learn how to take bumps, do moves and also learn to be a character including how to cut a promo.
Among the people that took part in the show are current WWE superstars John Morrison and The Miz as well as announced Josh Mathews.
The belief is that the show would air at 11:00 p.m. ET on Monday nights, immediately after WWE "Raw" on USA.

Eric Bischoff Supporting Linda's Senate Run and the WWE's 'Stand Up For WWE' Campaign
Go Linda! Good for Vince!
I don’t blame him for wanting to use his platform to activate WWE fans and speak out against some of the mainstream media b.s. that has been flung at Linda McMahon and the WWE.
Linda’s opponent and his surrogate campaign staffers over at MSNBC, have used their “news” format to trash a woman who has raised a family, overcome financial challenges, and helped build a billion dollar industry that is weathering the financial bon-fire that her challengers predecessor, Chris Dodd provided the lighter fluid for with his role in the disastrous bail-out debacle...More?

Jericho went on to reaffirm his passion and pride for the wrestling industry and said "I never want to hide my wrestling background. I'm very proud of it, and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be where I am today doing all these other great things.

Dave Bautista Talks About Training for MMA and Leaving WWE
Dave Bautista can't go too far down the street without someone asking him what he's been doing since leaving WWE earlier this year.
"I just tell them I'm unemployed," he laughs. "They look at me kind of funny."
Nothing could be further from the truth. There's a film role with Russell Crowe in the works and a probable MMA debut with Strikeforce. That could happen in late March-early April, and the fight everyone wants is Bautista (spelled Batista during his WWE days) against fellow former WWEer Bobby Lashley.
The 41-year-old Bautista knows his window for MMA success is short, but he's used to it. He didn't debut in pro wrestling until he was 30, but found fame and fortune as part of the Evolution stable alongside "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Triple H and Randy Orton.
And even though he's left WWE, he says he's still good friends with chairman Vince McMahon.
"I didn't agree with the direction the company was going in," Bautista said, even though he admits the squared circle pays a whole lot more than the cage. "It was geared more toward the PG rating. I fell in love with wrestling again in the late '90s with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and 'The Rock' Dwayne Johnson … It was edgy, and that was the kind of wrestling I knew and loved. It wasn't like that anymore, and my passion for it died a little bit."...More?

Blumenthal Holds Smaller Lead Over McMahon
Democrat Richard Blumenthal now leads Republican Linda McMahon by just five points in Connecticut’s race for the U.S. Senate in a survey conducted two nights after their third and final head-to-head debate.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Blumenthal, Connecticut’s longtime attorney general, picking up 51% of the vote. McMahon, the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, earns the vote from 46%. One percent (1%) prefer some other candidate, while three percent (3%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The latest numbers move the race from Solid Democrat to Leans Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings.
Just over a week ago, Blumenthal opened a 54% to 43% lead over McMahon the night after their first debate. While the race was closer in several surveys since January, Blumenthal has always held the lead. In 13 surveys this year, the Democrat has drawn 47% to 60% of the vote. McMahon has picked up 31% to 46% support during that same period.
