Gerald Brisco Gives Props To Fit Finlay For His Work With WWE's Divas Division

In The Miami Herald's nine-part series on women's wrestling, WWE Legend Gerald Brisco, who now scouts talent for WWE, gave props to Fit Finlay for his work with the WWE Divas division:

"It's like building a house in 1920 or building a house in 2013. What do you start with? You start with the foundation. You lay that foundation, and everything else will fall into place…I'm going to give props to where it's due. The divas, the ladies are better athletes now than they have been ever before, not taking away from anyone before. Props go out to David Fit Finlay also because he has handled the divas and turned them into tough workers. It's outstanding to see, and I can see his fingerprints all over it. He has done a tremendous job. He has taken that charge because some people would have been, 'Oh no, not the divas.' He said, 'Give it to me.' Now they come to him to see how to make it a little bit tougher and rougher. He takes that time to sit down to explain it to them and breaks it down into details to where they are able to understand it. He is a tremendous asset to the division and WWE."

Rumor Mill - WWE HOF Updates

There are plans to have 1-2 more inductees for the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame class. Ivan Koloff and Kamala's names have been discussed. The company has reached out to at least Kamala about being inducted.

As I noted in the PWInsider Elite section, Bruno Sammartino's induction will headline the ceremony. The company hopes to have Arnold Schwarzenegger induct him, something Bruno intends to talk to Arnold about when he is inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame during the Arnold Classic.

In regards to the other scheduled inductees, it's expected that Terry Funk and/or Jim Ross (possibly both) will induct Mick Foley. The company is considering Maria Menounos for Bob Backlund as the two are friends and obviously, WWE would love for the celebrity rub. Sgt. Slaughter's name has also been brought up for Backlund as has, interestingly enough, Roddy Piper.

In speaking around to those in the company, it was believed Donald Trump would most likely be inducted by a member of his family, possibly Ivanka Trump.

There's no word on Trish Stratus' inductor yet, although as I noted in the Elite section, Lita and/or Dave Finley would make the most sense. They could also go with Edge as they are both from Toronto and were trained by Ron Hutchison at the same school.

Booker T Praises Efforts of Fit Finlay and Terry Taylor

"Having a guy like Fit, who is so knowledgeable, teaching the guys the art of the business is essential. Then having a guy like Terry Taylor, someone who has been around so long and has done so much, as well as giving his life to the wrestling business, is great. It's also great having mentors – they're carpenters who really don't mind giving back to this business. That's what it's all about – keeping things moving forward – but a lot of the guys tend to want to keep that knowledge to themselves."

WWE Rehires Former Superstar, Trainer and Agent Fit Finlay

WWE has recently rehired Dave "Fit" Finlay as a producer, reports Bill Apter from 1Wrestling.com.

Finlay was released from his agent/producer position in March of last year after allowing Miz to interrupt the Star-Spangled Banner at a live event. The stunt brought some negative press to WWE and in turn, Finlay got let go from the company.

No information was given on when Finlay officially started back with the company.

Finlay Signs With Ring of Honor

RIng of Honor issued the following press release:

Ring of Honor officials held a private press conference on Monday April 2nd in Baltimore and one of the major things that came out of it, something we are extremely excited to announce, is that negotiations have been finalized with one of the most respected wrestlers who has ever set foot in the ring, a near 40-year veteran of the ring wars, to make his ROH debut when we return to Toronto on May 12th!

After much fan demand, and weeks of back-and-forth talks, “The Belfast Bruiser” Fit Finlay comes to Ring of Honor just in time for “Border Wars” at The Ted Reeve Arena! One of the toughest men in the sport, Finlay is as world traveled a wrestler as you are likely to find, has competed against the best competition across decades, won championships everywhere, and now wants to come to ROH to fight the best of the best of today’s crop of athletes.

Finlay: Why I Was Fired By WWE

"I was given a lot of leeway and a lot of power in WWE, and that comes with a lot of responsibility. I made a call that caused a storm and I paid for it.

They play the American national anthem over here before every event. We had Miz going out first and, because it was just before WrestleMania, we were trying to get as much heat on him as possible.

So my spur-of-the-moment call, as I sat right by the technician, was to tell him to hit Miz's music while they were half-way through the national anthem.

Of course, people were up in arms about it, but it was a good reaction as a heel. But there were National Guard people in the building that took exception to it, and I understand that fully.

It wasn't intended to insult anybody in that way — it was just part of an entertaining show. That's what we do, we entertain — it's about cheers and boos."...More?

Fit Finlay Released

WWE released producer/agent Dave "Fit" Finlay yesterday.

Finlay was said to have gained heat and criticism for booking The Miz to interrupt the national anthem at a recent house show in which a number of National Guard representatives were in attendance. The National Guard is a WWE sponsor. Word got back to WWE management that the reps were not impressed and they decided to release him.

Finaly has been with WWE since 2001 as a trainer and returned to the ring between 2006-2011.

ECW Results: Irish eyes are seeking … gold

At the conclusion of Matt Hardy’s match, Finlay and Mark Henry both emerged to proclaim that they should to be the next Superstar to face the ECW Champion. As a result, ECW General Manager Theodore Long made an executive decision that the two Superstars would battle for a chance at the title in the night’s main event. After avoiding a splash that threatened both him and his son Hornswoggle, Finlay triumphed over Henry by bashing the World’s Strongest Man over the head with the shillelagh. The monumental victory earns the Belfast Brawler a chance at the Hardy’s gold next week...More?

Matt Hardy Blogs about his Cyber Sunday Opponent

From Matt Hardy's myspace blog:

"I have never wrestled Evan Bourne, but I would love to, no doubt! He is one of the challengers that you can vote in to face me at Cyber Sunday for the ECW Title. I can definitely see this match being a non-stop adrenaline rush-a true show stealer. If you guys and gals want to see this match as bad as I wanna have it, make it happen with your text votes! The other option are Finlay or Mark Henry. It is truly up to the WWE fans what goes down that night-make your vote count!"

Kaliqo's Unforgiven Picks, Predictions & Speculations

WWE Diva's Championship: Michelle McCool (c) vs. Maryse
I love the Diva Championship belt, but I am not interested in seeing these two "wrestle" at all. I do wish that wweshop.com would sell replica belt buckles of the belt. I would buy that.

World Tag Team Championship Match: Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Cryme Tyme
This should be a good one. Ted DiBiase is definitely the star of this group. Since Cryme Tyme is over as faces I think the titles should stay with the current champs.

ECW Championship 'Scramble' Match: Mark Henry (c) vs. Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Finlay vs. The Miz
Oh God ECW. I just don't get it. Mark Henry is pitiful in the ring. I'd like to see Matt with the title. He's earned it.

World Heavyweight Championship 'Scramble' Match: CM Punk (c) vs. JBL vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Kane vs. Batista
I'm sure CM Punk will retain the title, but as long as they don't put it on JBL or Mysterio, I'm a happy camper.

WWE Championship 'Scramble' Match: Triple H (c) vs. MVP vs. Brian Kendrick vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin
I would like to see Jeff get the title and re-new his feud with Triple H. A Shelton Benjamin/Triple H feud would be good also.

Unsanctioned Match: Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels
I don't think it matters who wins this match because it is going to be amazing regardless of the outcome. I would expect Shawn to get the pin.

Bourne, Knox shine on ECW

Chavo Guerrero (El Paso, Texas) & Bam Neely (Robbinsdale, Minn.) vs. Evan Bourne (St. Louis, Mo.) & Ricky Ortiz (Paradise Valley, Ariz.)

Striker points out all the talent that has come out of Robbinsdale. I'm sure a lot of the audience had no idea who the likes of Rick Rude and Curt Hennig are. He also points out that Ortiz is the only WWE superstar to ever play in the XFL. Now that's interesting!

After a back-and-forth beginning, Guerrero and Neely gain control of Ortiz, working him over with headlocks and the like. Eventually, he gets the tag to Bourne who goes to work on Neely. Bourne is on fire here and catches Neely an incredibly awesome roll-up for the win. Winners via pinfall: Evan Bourne & Ricky Ortiz.

Mike Knox Promo
We're back and Mike Knox is joining us in the ring. After his little backstage promo last week, I must admit I'm interested in a follow-up.

Knox says he's here to expose the fraud called Finlay. He tells everyone to roll the footage. They go to the SummerSlam promo of he and Hornswaggle dancing in a park at a picnic.

Knox says Finlay used to be one of the toughest men in the business. Now, he spends his time dancing around with a Leprechaun. Finlay, not in wrestling gear, interrupts and he and Hornswaggle head down to the ring.

Finlay says he likes to have fun and he loves his family and if Knox has a problem with him or his family, then take a shot. Finlay says Knox better knock him out because if he doesn't, he'll find out if he's gone soft or not. Knox backs away and exits the ring to a "you suck" chant.
