Ryback Opens Up About Contract Offer And Issues With WWE

Ryan Reeves aka “The Big Guy” Ryback had a very public and very heated ending to his WWE career. He was displeased with a number of issues with the WWE before his official release from the company August 8th 2016.

In the first episode on his podcast “Conversation with the Big Guy” (which can be found on iTunes) he discussed that he was not happy with creative because of how he had been booked. He felt he was never considered the guy for the WWE and felt confused when they put the Intercontinental Title on him in 2015 which is also around the time they started their contract negotiations.

He stated that Vince McMahon told him that he would be the companies number 1 heel if he would just read the scripts that he was given. Ryback also stated that he was supposed to face AJ Styles at WrestleMania 32 and that Vince told him he would “squash that little twerp.” It was highly unlikely that would be the case considering how the WWE booked and promoted Styles as he came into the company. Ryback was pretty much an afterthought by this point anyway so why would the WWE put him over Styles? Ultimately, he went against Kalisto on the Kick Off Show.

Traveling expenses were another issue for Ryback. He stated the WWE wouldn’t cover any of the talents traveling expenses. Ryback said that he would travel by himself so his expenses would be more expensive then guys that travel together. He felt the WWE would take advantage of the talents love for wrestling by not covering their costs because they know the wrestlers are taking advantage of the opportunity using the NXT wrestlers as an example.

Ryback was quoted saying “Not about a money issue, just so everybody knows, I walked away from the WWE, the contract offer that I walked away from was a three-year $1.5 million contract.” He was not happy about the contract and broke it down further saying that $600,000 of the contract would be taxed and that his travel expenses alone would be another $150,000 easy. Seemingly he felt it was a joke and said he and Triple H had a number of heated conversations about the money issue.

Whether it was mostly about the money or the other issues he has come forth about is for you to decide and debate. Ryback said that he was very thankful to the WWE for everything they had done for him. Ryback included that he felt he learned about his work ethic from Vince McMahon in particular.

Ryback is booked to make a number of independent appearances, start a supplement line and release a motivational book. All of which can be found on his website FeedMeMore.com.

Ryback Publishes Lengthy Blog On His WWE Status, Being Sent Home, Meeting With Vince McMahon, More

As seen below, Ryback has launched a new Tumblr blog to address his WWE status:

Feed Me More

Today I sit and fly home and for the first time in years feel absolutely free. I will start by saying I did request to be taken off of WWE television until myself and Vince could get a yes or no on a new deal. This has been going on since my IC Title run and had been nothing but a major strain on my life as all I ever wanted to do was work for WWE. I was told to head home until we agree or not agree to specific terms and contrary to reports it isn't over money or a bus that stuff was settled a while ago. It comes down to a major problem I have with not only WWE but wrestling in general.

Wrestling is pre determined, we as performers know before we go out to that ring or perform a backstage scene who is winning and losing etc or have a general idea of what we are going to say. It blows my mind how in a sport which is pre determined from a company standpoint winners are paid so much more than the losers. Every single person who works for WWE from top to bottom is absolutely just as valuable as the next. The winners cannot win unless the losers go out there and agree to lose to them.

It blows my mind that in this day and age though we still adhere to this formula.

Update on Ryback’s Current WWE Contract Dispute, His Original WWE Raw Plans, Reported Meeting with Vince McMahon & More

As noted last night, Ryback is currently amidst some type of contract dispute with WWE, and The Big Guy was subsequently sent home from Raw in St. Louis last night and is off WWE TV indefinitely. Ryback was scheduled to participate in the U.S. Title #1 contenders Battle Royal match on Raw last night, but that of course did not happen after he was sent home.

According to F4WOnline.com, multiple WWE sources are confirming Ryback, real name Ryan Reeves, is indeed involved in a contract dispute with WWE, and it could possibly stem from comments Ryback made while WWE was on tour in Dubai.

While WWE was in the UAE, Ryback was pretty outspoken in an interview with radio personality Myles, which you can watch in the video above. During the interview, Ryback vents his frustration with his spot on the past two WrestleMania cards, and according to Dave Meltzer, while wrestlers talk privately about their frustrations all the time, it’s not considered a good career move to speak out publicly unless you are an untouchable top level star in WWE.

Ryback reportedly met with Vince McMahon yesterday afternoon about renewing his contract, which expires this summer. Ryback apparently was not happy with the offer which was presented, with Meltzer adding the two sides were very far apart on money. The discussion ended with McMahon suggesting that Ryback go home, to which Ryback agreed.

Ryback also seemed to take somewhat of a shot at his current spot in WWE when he wore a “pre-show stopper” belt as part of his WWE Payback ring gear. Ryback also mocked Chicago native CM Punk during his PPV entrance, as Punk previously made negative comments about The Big Guy during an appearance on Colt Cabana’s podcast.

Rumor Mill - Ryback Reportedly Pulled From Television and Sent Home From Raw Following Big Contract Dispute

According to PWInsider.com, WWE star Ryback was pulled from TV indefinitely and sent home from Raw tonight following what was said to be a contract dispute between The Big Guy and WWE. The report added one source claimed Ryback himself asked to be taken off WWE TV.

Ryback’s current WWE contract is said to be expiring sometime this summer, and the two sides have not been able to come to terms on a new deal. Ryback last competed at WWE Payback and lost a U.S. Title match to Kalisto.

Ryback Talks Being The Man To Replace John Cena, Interesting Conversation With Vince McMahon, More

Recently on The Steve Austin Show, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin interviewed WWE's Ryback. Ryback spoke about his relationship with Vince McMahon, believing he can replace John Cena, and the political nature of WWE.

When asked what his relationship with McMahon is like, Ryback said that he tries not to bother McMahon too much and only speaks with him when the subject matter is important.

"I don't want to go to him just all the time for everything and it has to have meaning behind it and it always has because I feel some people abuse that power. He's a busy man. He's pulled in a million different directions, so it's when I truly feel I need to talk to him about something".

One example of a time when Ryback felt it necessary to speak with McMahon directly was in 2012, prior to his return to WWE television in April of that year. According to Ryback, he felt like he was being underutilized, so he told McMahon that he did not need vignettes and that he would get himself over if WWE just put him out in front of the audience.

"I remember I said something about 'your company' to him at one point and at the end of the conversation, he goes, 'you'll be ready when you realize it is our company' and I said, 'our company' and I walked out of there. I was like, 'damn it,' thinking, 'how long do I have to wait now before I go talk to him and somehow sneak in 'our company'' and, luckily though, everything was on track, and, I believe, I debuted a week or two after that."

Former Security Guard Suing 12 WWE Superstars Over 2013 Live Event Incident, WWE Responds

A former security guard at the Savannah Civic Center in Savannah, Georgia is suing WWE and several Superstars after he was hit with a steel chair at a WWE live event in 2013, according to Courthouse News Service. The complaint was filed in late June.

Troy Rivers says he was unexpectedly hit "about the head, neck and back" with a chair at the event. His suit names John Cena, Ryback, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Fandango, Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, Kane and R-Truth. Rivers is unsure who actually hit him, believing it may be Ambrose, so his attorney is suing every Superstar who competed that night. His attorney Kevin Elwell said:

"We haven't reviewed the video from the event yet, so we're bringing in everyone on the card that night. Only one guy did it, but we don't know which one yet."

Rivers says the incident left him with "serious, significant and permanent personal injuries." River's wife Mary is also a plaintiff in the suit and claims that the incident has deprived her of "conjugal fellowship" with her husband. Troy also claims that because of gross negligence by WWE, he is suffering from "physical and mental anguish, diminishment of his earning capacity, and continues to suffer a loss of enjoyment of life."

The man is seeking unspecified punitive and compensatory damages. WWE issued a written statement in response and said they have no knowledge of "any such incident and the security company that hired the plaintiff doesn't have any record of this matter either. Furthermore, the plaintiff's attorney has admitted he has no basis to sue the individual defendants named in the lawsuit."

Ryback Speaks On CM Punk

"The comments that he made were not accurate, about me, definitely. It was disappointing to here what he said. He was not like that to my face, and to hear the things that he said, especially behind my back to Vince, its very disturbing to me. Things did not go ideal for me after that time period after we wrestled. I stuck around, hung out, showed up and did my job and turned things around. He says I broke his ribs on purpose, that's not true. If it was, he never did anything about it, if he's this big bad tough guy. You've got a roster full of WWE talent who knows the real Ryback and everyone knows the truth, what he said wasn't the truth. I wish him the best, I would like to think he is thankful for everything he has in WWE, and I was the one, for lack of a better word, put him over time and time again, and then he walked out and left. He was beaten up, he had his issues...Hopefully we will see him down the line."

Ryback Responds to CM Punk's Recent Comments, Says Slander Is a Powerful Thing

Ryback tweeted the following tonight, an apparent response to CM Punk's recent comments about him on Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast:

"For the record if I quit for being fragile and insecure I would make up excuses too. Things didn't go my way for a long time and I kept going day in and out. Slander is a powerful thing and to state complete made up nonsense for no reason shows his insecurities. I will continue to bust my ass study matches every chance I get, cut promos when driving and push myself for hours on end even when hurt. Thank you."

Ryback Update: Backstage Heat Persists, Officials “Fuming” Over Lilian Garcia Remark, More

Last night, Ryback's Twitter rant culminated in him Tweeting "was just released," and subsequently all Tweets on his account were deleted and his Twitter name was changed back to his real name, Ryan Reeves.

While it wasn't confirmed whether or not Ryback was indeed released or is just trolling the internet, a source within WWE informed Wrestlezone.com that the backstage heat Ryback has had with WWE management persists, and officials are reportedly upset with a variety of things where Ryback is concerned. However, when asked if Ryback was indeed released tonight, our source responded by saying "I don't think so."

Officials have never been a fan of how Ryback sells during matches, and they were none too thrilled with the concussion Dolph Ziggler sustained during his match against Ryback taped for Superstars this week.

Additionally, we were told that despite jokes being made on TV at Lilian Garcia's expense in the past, WWE officials were reportedly "fuming" over the comment Ryback made during his commentary on Raw this past Monday night. For those who missed it, Ryback said his voice was hoarse, as he's been hanging out with Lilian Garcia too much. The comment was in reference to an ongoing backstage joke in WWE that Lilian Garcia has a "horse face."

Update On Ryback/Dolph Ziggler Situation, Ziggler's Concussion

As previously reported, Dolph Ziggler has suffered a severe concussion after taking a stiff clothesline from Ryback during last night's tapings of Superstars. Ziggler is reportedly going to go see a neuropsychologist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania later this week to get further evaluated. It's being reported that Ziggler having to go all the way to Pittsburgh to see this neuropsychologist is not a good sign, especially considering that Ziggler has a well-documented history of concussions.

Ryback has reportedly taken full responsibility for the accident. Ryback has been criticized before for not being very safe to work with.

Ryback Buried in WWE Producer’s Meeting, Main Roster Spot in Jeopardy?

Earlier this week we reported the backstage heat on Ryback, specifically stemming from rumors of him being a danger to work with, was said to be fabricated by someone close to the situation in WWE.

In an update to that story, however, following this Monday's Raw, a high level WWE source has informed WZ that a recent producer's meeting saw Ryback buried, and he indeed has enormous backstage heat, and is not well liked at all. Producers and backstage agents, but not necessarily Vince McMahon himself, feel Ryback is awkward and "not safe enough" in the ring.

"Just look at how Ryback got buried on Monday, getting beat and tapping out after being put through a table in 5 minutes," our source told us.

The source further told us following Hell in a Cell on Sunday and this week's edition of Raw, Ryback is short term for the main roster at best.

Rumor Mill - Why Ryback Has Heat with WWE Officials

There has been lots of internal talk about the future of Ryback lately. He has heat on him for several different things.

For one, officials feel he hasn't really developed well in the ring like they were hoping. There's a feeling that Ryback has actually regressed in the ring. He also has heat on him for roughing up several different talents, most recently CM Punk.

Officials also feel that Ryback doesn't present himself well when making appearances for the company. WWE has gotten feedback on several appearances he's made over the past few months where people said he didn't look happy to be there, and this began before they turned him heel. One source described it as Ryback seeming to be annoyed by making public appearances. Vince McMahon has lost so much faith in Ryback that he may remove Paul Heyman from him so Heyman can move forward.

Rumor Mill - Blown Spot On Raw Causes An Uproar Backstage & Two Top Stars Nearly Come To Blows

Ryback took major heat over the gorilla table bump spot with CM Punk on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Ryback’s only job was to put Punk through the table. Well, as seen on Raw, not only did he not direct Punk but he turned his wrist at the last second and caused Punk to almost miss the table and barely catch any of it on the way down. The nasty bump caused Punk to be legitimately busted open and receive medical attention backstage. Rather than apologize, Ryback told a producer that Punk “should have bumped better.” Punk apparently found out because he and Ryback ended up having words over it. The entire thing nearly came to blows when Curtis Axel stepped in and tried to play the role of peace maker. Triple H ended up getting involved, pulling Ryback aside and speaking with him behind closed doors.

Rumor Mill - Why Triple H “Blew A Gasket” At Raw & Who Has Heat

Triple H wasn’t happy with Ryback vs. Rob Van Dam and the words used to describe his reaction were “train wreck.” Apparently Hunter felt Ryback was unprofessional when he took a stiff kick.
