JBL and Ron Simmons to Induct the Latest Name Announced for the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame, JBL and Simmons Comment, More

WWE has announced that The Godfather will be the second name inducted into the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame class.

The story was first reported by BleacherReport.com writer Jonathan Snowden, who spoke to The Godfather, real name Charles Wright. Below are some interview highlights:

Charles Wright reacts to news of his Hall of Fame induction:

“I can’t wait to see the fans and tell them how much I appreciate them. They don’t forget. I really appreciate everything WWE has done for me and I really appreciate all the fans. It’s such a big honor. I never expected to be in the Hall of Fame. Brother, that’s for eternity man.”

Former APA tag team JBL and Ron Simmons will be inducting Godfather into the Hall of Fame this year, and JBL had the following say about the honor:

“Godfather is legitimately one of toughest guys to have ever been in this business, but more importantly one of the most talented. He took several different characters and got them all over, which is an amazing feat. He is an incredible individual, and I couldn’t be happier for my dear friend. The days of us riding together in a car with Ron Simmons all over the world are the stories that should be told at his induction.”

Ron Simmons, who worked with Wright during their time in The Nation of Domination, had the following to say about the “edgy touchy” pimp-based Godfather character:

“It’s an edgy and touchy character with so much sexual innuendo. But it was done at the right time and in the right manner. He had to do it in a way that was entertaining and must-see character without getting underneath people’s skins. And it takes a lot of hard work to do that. You must have the charisma, the vocal skills, the physical skills. You couldn’t give that character to just anyone.”

JBL on Being Named Beyond Sport Ambassador

Olympians, CEOs and even a former prime minster; these are the people who have the honor of being named Beyond Sport Ambassadors, and now John “Bradshaw” Layfield is one of them. The WWE announcer and former World Champion was recently named an Ambassador of Beyond Sport, a global organization that commits itself to using sport to cause a sustainable social change.

“Beyond Sport, to me, is one of the best organizations in the world,” JBL told WWE.com. “They use ‘Sport for Change’ as the catchphrase that goes around the world for all different programs, but they’re all doing phenomenal work. They change the lives of, predominately, disadvantaged kids.”

A longtime supporter of Beyond Sport, JBL first connected with them in 2010 while he was in Cape Town, South Africa for the World Cup. He was introduced to some of their programs, which gave him insight into how sports can be used to benefit disadvantaged children.

Being introduced to Beyond Sport prompted JBL to create his own organization, Beyond Rugby Bermuda. Along with providing a homework academy for after school help and rugby training, BRB also offers family support services through Family Center Bermuda.

“It’s a tremendous honor; all the ambassadors have done remarkable work.” JBL told WWE.com when asked about his new role as an official ambassador. “It’s such an honor to be there but it’s an honor of what I represent, not of me. What I’m recognized for is not my own personal achievements, but for what the program has done for Bermuda.”

Additionally, JBL has climbed several mountains in support of his Seven Summits for Kids campaign, including Pikes Peak and Mount Kilimanjaro. Just yesterday, JBL finished a 9 hour climb to the top of Quandary Peak, moving one step closer to his goal.

JBL Blasts Reports Of Alleged "Fight" Between Justin Roberts And Michael Cole

WWE announcer John "Bradshaw" Layfield has taken to his official Facebook page to blast reports of a fight that was alleged to have taken place between fellow announcer Michael Cole and recently-released WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts during this week's edition of Raw:

I saw on the Internet that Michael Cole and Justin Roberts got into a fight at ringside-during a live Raw. Do you realize how preposterous this is? Michael has ZERO break during the three hours (King and I barely have enough to tweet!), we go straight to WWE App during commercials (which Maggle is so helpful in showing everyone how to download) and back to TV action. This 'fight' never happened and couldn't have happened due to lack of time. I have no idea how these things start-but happy that people care enough to write about what we do and what goes on, sometimes though the 'news' is wrong as in this case.

I wish Justin the best obviously and I know nothing of his departure other than what was announced-but wanted to clear this up as the Internet was buying this for fact for some reason.

I do want to wish Maggle a happy birthday (yesterday) I do think Maggle is the best play by play guy WWE has ever had, and before all of you hop on the JR or Gorilla bandwagon-I mean no insult to either of those guys, both all time greats. I have worked with Michael since my broadcast start and have never seen anyone better-that is obviously subject to my opinion. The stuff he has to do with all the social media, app, network, etc makes his job the hardest play by play in the world imo and as much as I love getting him on air, I think he is great at it.

JBL On Working In NXT, Who He Would Call Up To Main Roster, More

Former WWE Champion John "Bradshaw" Layfield recently spoke to "The Damn Good Wrestling Podcast" about working in WWE's NXT developmental territory.

If it was up to JBL and one guy had to be called up tomorrow, who would he call up? “Adrian Neville. Not a doubt in my mind. I think he’s just phenomenal. I don’t know about his promo skills as I haven’t seen them as much, but he’s a guy who could go out there and perform on any card, anywhere in the world and be a help to that card. I would love to see him up in the WWE. He’ll be there I just don’t know the time frame.”

The English contingent in NXT: “I believe Paige will be a big star, but as far as shaking up the (divas) division goes that remains to be seen. I hope she does but you don’t know until they get there.

“Danny Burch, I saw him cut a promo the other day which I thought was phenomenal. In fact I told him afterwards that it was one of the best promos I’ve heard done in recent memory. Danny Burch, I’m a big fan of his I think he will do well it’s just a matter of finding a spot for him.”

Calling people up to the WWE: “You don’t want to bring guys in just to bring them in, you want to bring them in and make an impact with them like they have with these other guys and I think that’s why it takes longer sometimes than what people want.”

His experience at NXT: “It’s a revitalisation for me. I haven’t been around anything other than the WWE for 15-20 years and so for me to see more of how I started and the passion, not just with the performers but with the crowd down there, it’s a great environment.”

J.R. Comments on Raw, Vince McMahon, the Tag Team Division, More

Closing moments of Raw felt like some of the great moments during the Attitude Era. Table destroyed, monitors out, bodies hitting the floor, stiff shots, and a crazed crowd. Great nite at the office.

Mr McMahon was amazing especially at his age and lack of recent ring time. I'm not kissing butt but just stating a fact. @cmpunk is special. Controversial? Yes...but damn special.

Sheamus and Wade a arrest literally beat the hell out of each other much like I'll see in Dallas Saturday when OU battles Texas.

Second week in a row that Wold Champ Sheamus rose to the occasion, last week it was against Damien Sandow.

Barrett has returned from injury a different man as it relates to aggression & physicality. That mindset will get one places.

WWE tag team biz is becoming viably relevant. Opportunity awaits several duos. Will they realize such and seize the fleeting moment?

Notice some, not many, talents, content, seemingly, w/ their 'spots.' That mindset poisons the water. Solve problem or eliminate it. End of story. Gaining more respect for @JohnCena daily. His elbow is a legit mess. John is a genuine, tough SOB. Enjoyed working w/ @michaelcole & @jclayfield (JBL) on Raw. Nice fireworks w/ the big Texan & Cole is simply a helluva navigator. Not sure what the future holds collectively for the 3 of us but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts. My best 'guess' is that @jerrylawler will return sometime in November but that's personal assumption. King is doing great and anxious to get back in the game.

Shawn Michaels, Jim Ross & JBL Comment on Chris Jericho's Brazil Incident

Shawn Michaels:
"Wow, waking up to find twitter blaming me for an apparent suspension of @IAmJericho Seems to me I'd blame the horrific PC world we've allowed ourselves to be caught up in where you can't "act" & have it called "acting." BS!! I'll stand behind @IAmJericho any day of the week & twice on Sunday...what's the big "E" stand for in WWE anyway!! I honestly don't see how many of you make it w/that much anger in your life...seems exhausting & a colossal waste of time!! See, that's all I've got & I'm already tired!! Time to workout & hit my day. Y'all have a wonderful day!! :-)"

Jim Ross:
"He was playing the part of a wrestling villain in an entertainment based entity. It's not like he was at a sporting event like soccer and disrespected the flag, but rules are rules and they have strict rules regarding the flag in their company... He's playing a character, did an ad lib, and unfortunately he stepped over the line for the local culture, so he's been suspended indefinitely and hopefully it will work out."

JBL:
"After seeing reports of Chris Jericho in Brazil-it was what I suspected--Chris trying to entertain and be a heel. Apparently a Brazilian Flag comes into ring and Chris grabs it and kicks it (or something to that effect). Compare that to Sgt Slaughter burning the flag or all the crazy stuff that has gone on. This is nothing. EXCEPT we are in a new era and now that isn't acceptable.

Chris did what most old heels would have done, he reacted and a decade ago it would have been loved for the heat. However, times change and we have to as well-Chris acknowledged this and apologized. Chris is a wonderful person and one of all time great entertainers-there was no malice here from what I see and know about Chris. A mistake was made and is being dealt with.

As far as being illegal, please, if done in an entertaining arena it is considered as such. Like saying you can prosecute Anthony Hopkins for cannibalism because of his role in 'Silence of the Lambs'. I understand the arguements, I went through same thing in Germany and it was never considered a problem in Germany-only over the Internet and the Internet reporters. Chris' intent was to entertain not insult anyone in Brazil or the great Brazilian fans.

Times change and for the better. Chris did what a ton of older heels would have done and he reacted. He is being punished and he apologized. He is one of all time greats and a great friend, old habits are hard to change but we must.

Times change and we have to change with it, and we all will."
