Big Show Leaves WWE And Joins AEW

AEW announced today that Paul Wight has joined the company, signing a long-term contract.

Wight will wrestle and serve as a commentator for AEW’s newest show on YouTube, AEW Dark: Elevation. Elevation will air on Mondays at 7pm ET, complimenting the weekly AEW Dark show that airs on Tuesdays at 7pm ET. Elevation will showcase AEW’s established and rising talent, as well as top indie talents.

Wight said it’s been amazing to watch what AEW has done in a few years since launching.

“It’s been amazing to watch what AEW has built in just a couple of years,” Wight said in a press release. “AEW Dark is an incredible platform to hone the skills of up-and-coming wrestlers, but I also love that established AEW talent can build out their personalities and showcase themselves in new ways on Dark. It’s no exaggeration when they say that AEW is boundless.”

AEW CEO, General Manager and Head of Creative Tony Khan also commented on why Wight wanted to come to AEW.

“Paul Wight is one of the most recognizable and impressive professional athletes in the world,” said Tony Khan, CEO, GM and Head of Creative of AEW. “He wanted to come to AEW because he believes that we’re the best promotion in wrestling, and we believe that he has a lot to offer us, both in the ring as a wrestler, and also outside the ring as a commentator, host and ambassador for AEW.”

“Paul is one of the most experienced stars in all of wrestling, and he’s eager to work with our diverse roster,” added Khan. “He can benefit and guide our young talent with his mentorship, and his expert commentary on AEW Dark: Elevation will educate and entertain our fans, and also educate the younger wrestlers on the roster. Furthermore, Paul enters AEW as a licensed wrestler, and he’s very much looking forward to studying our talent firsthand from the commentary desk in preparation for his return to the ring!”

AEW is promising more details on Wight’s signing during tonight’s Dynamite show on TNT.

Big Show Talks About Criticism Of Triple H’s Marriage To Stephanie McMahon

“Here’s the thing. People give Hunter a lot of crap and say, ‘oh, he married up, he married up’. Let me tell you something. That dude is probably one of the smartest dudes I’ve ever met in my life and you’ve got to think about this. Yes, Stephanie is absolutely beautiful. She’s intelligent. She’s charismatic. She’s driven. She’s Vince’s daughter. She’s going to be a handful if you’re marrying her. Then think about every Sunday dinner sitting across at Sunday dinner at the family dinner table and you’ve got to stare at Vince. I can go home and get away from him. Hunter can’t go anywhere. He [has] always got to be on because Vince is always on. So Hunter is probably the only guy I can think of in my career that I’ve met that is that dedicated, that is that on, that can pull that off. I mean, maybe John [Cena], but John’s different. You know what I mean? Not good or bad. Those are the only two guys that have the ability to function on Vince’s level.”

Big Show Says He Will Always Have A Home In WWE, Talks Current 'Changing Of The Guard', His Future

Big Show recently spoke with The Miami Herald to promote the June 28th WWE SmackDown tapings at the AmericanAirlines Arena. The full interview is at this link and below are highlights:

His current WWE role:

"We've got a lot of young, new, great talent deserving of TV time; they're building their brand. New storylines for them. It's a changing of the guard. I came in as the youngest in the locker-room by 10 years in 1995, and now I'm one of the old ones still out there. I get to go out on weekends and do the live events and help some of the younger kids not make the same mistakes that I made and help them along."

His future and retirement:

"All great things come to an end. So for me I'm looking at projects outside of WWE and maybe moving into something else in the future, but my heart is with WWE. I love helping the younger talent. I love representing WWE like with Make-A-Wish, Be a STAR, Special Olympics. I think I'll always have a home in WWE."

"I've had a great career and had a lot of fun. So whatever happens in the future, I'm gonna take it. If I get a phone call tomorrow, and Vince [McMahon] says, 'Thank you very much. I appreciate everything you've done.' Well, that said, I can hold my head high and go on and do other things. I don't want to ever look back and say, 'I wish I could have,' or 'I wish I would have.' I'm just a guy who is very thankful. I still have my health, and I still get a chance to do something I love every now and then."

Sneak peek: Seth Green imagines kid wrestlers for 'Camp WWE'

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and John Cena are superstars in a pro wrestling ring, but Seth Green is on a mission to make their kid selves just as entertaining while toasting marshmallows and driving grownups crazy.

The actor and longtime wrestling fan is reimagining grapplers as 8-year-old boys and girls at summer camp in the adult animated series Camp WWE. The show premieres on demand May 1 on the WWE Network streaming service.

Green and his team at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios regularly tackle pop culture with series such as Robot Chicken and SuperMansion, but with Camp WWE, Green says, “getting to introduce these characters to a different audience (and) a new generation in a way they’ve never seen before is like a unique kind of privilege for me.”

The summer camp is headed up by Vince McMahon — with the WWE chairman, president and CEO voicing himself — though he’s an even more over-the-top persona than in the ring, as he rides giraffes and takes swigs from McMahonade. His daughter Stephanie McMahon and Triple H are 15-year-old camp counselors, while “Nature Boy” Ric Flair and Sgt. Slaughter are activity supervisors for the kids.

Interesting Character Details Revealed For 'Camp WWE' Adult Comedy On The WWE Network

We noted earlier this year that WWE Network would be premiering a "Camp WWE" animated comedy series in late 2015. Billed as WWE's "first adult comedy," the show is a partnership between WWE and Seth Green's Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.

We now have new details on the show as Executive Producers Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, Eric Towner and John Harvatine and casting directors Ruth Lambert and Robert McGee have been looking for voice actors for the Camp WWE tapings. The tapings will be on August 9th in Los Angeles and those doing the voice work will be paid $906. Below are details on the characters:

* Vince McMahon - head of the camp and a 50 year old, big brash, ego-maniacal billionaire who is also a loving father that hates complaining campers and ass-kissing subordinates, but loves money and power and is always thinking of new ways to run down his competition. Vince's character is billed as "clearly, the most intelligent character on the show."

* Triple H - a 14-15 year old co-head camp counselor called Hunter. His character is tough and intimidating and he's a vindictive prankster who is always trying to get Vince's respect and always trying to win the love of Vince's daughter. Hunter considers himself to be highly intelligent "but still has a long way to go."

* Stephanie McMahon - the other co-head camp counselor, her character is also 14-15 years old. She has all of her father's traits - arrogant, ruthless and intimidating but lacks the maturity to get the job done. She tries to run the camp but runs to her father at the first sign of trouble. Stephanie's character is "beautiful, bold, confrontational and fearless."

* John Cena - an 8 year old camper described as the "most adorable, cherry, upbeat boy scout type" and a cute goody two-shoes who will do anything to make the other campers happy. Cena's character is also described as a polarizing figure at the camp who is sometimes used by others to do their dirty work. He annoys people because he never gives up at anything and is always trying to inspire others.

* The Undertaker - the scariest 8 year old you'll ever meet, a large gothic kid obsessed with mystical powers and death. His character is based on Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy and Satin from Game of Thrones.

* Big Show - a big, dumb and gentle 8 year old. Big Show's character is both childlike and monstrous in size but doesn't understand his own strength or the meaning of any word with more than two syllables. This was described as an 8 year old Homer Simpson.

* Mark Henry - the strongest 8 year old in the world, who loves food and girls. He brags that he knows everything about women but it comes out that he knows nothing about women.

* Hulk Hogan - this character will be nixed due to the racist comments controversy but they wanted Hogan's character to be a camp legend who is huge, powerful and charismatic but tired from being old and being from a different era, still trying to connect with people by calling them "brother."

* The Bella Twins - Brie Bella is the cunning, cute and sneaky one while Nikki Bella is the tomboy of the two and has the best body of all the women campers. They sometimes play "twin magic" on unsuspecting campers.

* Ric Flair - a camper who is 5 years older than everyone else that rides in limousines and jet planes. His character is cocky, always styling & profiling and is also the dirtiest kid in camp who shocks Vince with stories of his sexual conquests.

* R-Truth - Neither big or bright but is funny and drives people crazy with his misguided theories on why things are what they are. His character is also the most gullible camper who always gives you second and third-hand information that's almost impossible to believe.

Big Show: STOP BLAMING WWE FOR DEATHS Vince Takes Care Of Us

WWE superstar Big Show says Doink the Clown's family is WRONG to go after the WWE for the wrestler's death ... claiming Vince McMahon does EVERYTHING he can to protect the talent.

The 7-footer was out in L.A. when we asked about the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the mother of Doink's children -- which claims Doink's life spiraled out of control due to concussions he suffered in the ring.

"I think that everybody who steps through those ropes knows what could possibly happen," Big Show says.

"You gotta accept that responsibility as a talent if you step those ropes, whether you're a boxer, ultimate fighter or sports entertainer."

Big Show says he has nothing but good things to say about the WWE -- adding, "I've seen how much they've gone above and beyond to take care of the talent and do everything they can where no one ever did that before."

Top WWE Stars Reportedly Side with Alberto Del Rio, Will He Speak Out In the US Soon?, More

Alberto Del Rio will reportedly be doing media appearances in the United States soon to go into more details about what happened with his WWE departure. Del Rio's representatives have contacted indie wrestling promoters in the US and said that Del Rio will be taking bookings for autograph signings and matches in the US very soon because he doesn't feel that WWE's one-year non-compete that keeps him from doing MMA and pro wrestling, while not paying him, will hold up in court. Del Rio's asking price for indie bookings is said to be extremely high.

Del Rio has been upset about WWE's social media worker Cody Barbierri not being fired for the incident they were involved in but for legal reasons, hasn't been saying anything like that publicly. At first Del Rio was going to speak out in the US media but decided against it. Now, his lawyers have reportedly given him the green light to speak out in the US.

It was also reported by those close to the situation that when Triple H called Del Rio about the departure, he told Del Rio to keep his nose clean and when the heat died down, they would re-hire him in 6 months. Del Rio said he wasn't interested in coming back. Top stars including Big Show, Randy Orton and John Cena all told Del Rio that they would push for him to be re-hired because most of the locker room was sympathetic to what had happened. Again, Del Rio made it clear he didn't want to come back.
