Battle Worn
This article upset me a great deal. You have someone that believes the hype of going to Iraq/Afghanistan to help the people there and fight terrorism. Then, when that individual gets injured, the government forgets all about them. The process that this soldier has to go through to get assistance is pathetic. And the wonder why recruitment is down.

Tragic Toll Part of Wrestling's Way of Life
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
Michael Alfonso had a wife and two children.
He had a good job as a sales associate with Coldwell Banker in Tampa.
As wrestler Mike Awesome, he won championships in ECW and Japan's FMW.
And now, at age 42, he's dead. According to The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Alfonso was found hanging in his home last Saturday.
A tragedy. But death at a young age is not unique to wrestling. Far from it.
It's just another name to add to the body count, a list that is far too long.
How about these names ... and this is just a sampling:
Louie Spiccoli, 27; Crash Holly, 32; Eddie Gilbert, 33; Owen Hart, 33; Chris Candido, 33; Adrian Adonis, 34; Yokozuna, 34; Brian Pillman, 35; Eddie Guerrero, 38; Davey Boy Smith, 39; Johnny Grunge, 39; Rick Rude, 41; Miss Elizabeth, 42; Big Bossman, 42, Dino Bravo, 44; Mr Perfect Curt Hennig, 44; Bam Bam Bigelow, 45, Junkyard Dog, 45; Road Warrior Hawk, 45; and Big John Studd, 46.
Oh, there are others ... many others. But this column only has so much space.
To blame wrestling for all the deaths would be inaccurate and unfair.
But there's little doubt that wrestling and its way of life have taken their toll.
While wrestling matches are scripted, there's no scripting what happens outside the ring ... what happens when the wrestlers can barely roll out of the bed in the morning because of the pain they're feeling.
Some wrestlers turn to painkillers. Others, looking to bulk up in an industry where "size does matter," juice up with steroids.
If you looked at the list above, painkillers and steroids have certainly contributed to deaths.
There are "wellness" policies in place to help wrestlers. But as another body was lowered into the ground, it just doesn't seem like enough.

Al Gore, Rock Star
I really think AL Gore should have used Bill Clinton to his advantage instead of running from him during his campaign. If he had done so (and Bush didn't cheat) he would have won. I guess he thought we weren't smart enough to separate him from Clinton, but no one associated him with the Lewinsky matter or Whitewater. He could have ridden the Clinton coattails without putting on the coat. His documentary has been nominated for an Oscar. I hope it wins.

Pastor In Florida Trying to Re-Create Guyana
OK here we go again. Another "charismatic leader" has convinced his followers that he is God. They are even getting 666 tattoos, just like his. Are these people that out of touch with reality? Are they that desperate? Have they forgotten about Jim Jones and Guyana, David Koresh and Waco or The Two and Heavens' Gate? I don't understand how people can blindly follow a stranger into something that requires them to given up all control over their lives. You can read the crap that this nut is spewing here.
So You Want To Be Famous...
So you want to be famous - CNN.com
I thought it was interesting that this article was on cnn.com today. I found out late last night that I have been "discovered" . It seems that someone I know well has found my blog. I've never wanted to be famous. I wanted to be a fashion photographer and then a rock star and even considered joining Ringling Brothers as a clown, but I never wanted to be famous.
I contemplated deleting it. This was my space to say what I wanted without any repurcusions. But, I have changed my mind and add this disclaimer - If you know me in real life and don't like what is written here, feel free to change the channel. If you know me and comment about what I've written in a negative way, be advised that I will write about you, and everything I know about you. You have been warned.

Britney Bald? WTF?!
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Britney Spears appeared in a tattoo parlor in the San Fernando Valley with her head shaved completely bald.
Video on KABC-TV showed the newly shorn Spears with tiny tattoos on the back of her neck as she sits Friday night for a new tattoo -- a pair of red and pink lips.
"She just wanted something real small on her wrist, something dainty," Max Gott, the tattoo artist at Body and Soul in Sherman Oaks, told the TV station. "She got some cute little lips on her wrist."
Derrik Snell, who works at the tattoo parlor, said Spears showed up without notice and stayed for about 90 minutes as about 60 fans, photographers and gawkers gathered outside.
"She seemed fine," Snell said. "I didn't really notice [the hairdo] at first, she had a hood on when she showed up."...You can read the rest of the article here CNN.com

TNA iMPACT! Rating Plummets Due To RAW
Four sides are better than six. They call it a squared circle for a reason...
Last night's airing of TNA iMPACT! took a huge hit in the ratings as the show drew a 0.59 rating going head-to-head with a special Thursday night airing of WWE RAW. Last week's show drew a 1.1 rating, and thus there was a 47% decrease in viewership this week. This was the least watched edition of iMPACT! in the show's history since the move to Spike TV. Additionally, the two hour replay of 'This is TNA!' that preceded last night's iMPACT! drew an even lower rating, a 0.48 cable rating.

From the I told you so category:
Chyna Confirms Drug Use
02/15/2007 by Ryan Clark
Joanie "Chyna" Laurer released a video statement today, confirming what has been pretty obvious -- she once again is having drug problems. In the video, she says that the death of Anna Nicole Smith was a sign to her to get her life in order.
Video from YouTube
And in a totally unrelated matter...
During Jeopardy’s Teen Tournament there was a slight reference to Triple H. The topic was Vice Presidents, and the question was “he was Triple H long before this WWE guy”. The answer of course was Hubert H, Humphrey, Jr.

Anna Nicole Smith Death A Warning To Britney Spears, Lohan
By Mike Baron
Feb 13, 2007
Anna Nicole Smith's life and sudden death should serve as a warning to Hollywood's young stars that are on the road to trouble. Britney Spears, who let her life go straight down the partying gutter, and Lindsay Lohan, who did the same and is now in rehab, are headed down the same path Anna Nicole was traveling - and the end of that path is fatal.
Britney Spears is at the front of the destructive line and trying to get through to her is like sticking pitch forks in your eyes. The singer is on the front page of a magazine every other day, and news of her sitting in her own puke after pounding down glass-after-glass of liquor in some 'hotspot' is reported equally as often.
A journalist for the NY Daily News writes: 'Spears was out on the town again late Sunday night, showing up at promoter Joey Morrissey's weekly party at One, the Meatpacking District hot spot, with a couple of male friends. A source told the Daily News she drank shots from a bottle of tequila and ended up naked in the dancers' dressing room, trying on their bikini costumes. "She was in high spirits," says the source. "(Spears) arrived in a little red dress, but she admired the fishnet (stockings) the dancers were wearing. She went downstairs and tried them on, but didn't like the way they looked with her dress.
So she took off her dress and started putting on bikinis that the dancers wear," he adds. "She stripped all of her clothes off and was totally naked in the dancers' room. She came out and got a T-shirt off of one of the waiters and danced like that till around 4 a.m."'
Lindsay Lohan is second in line, and she's only 20-years-old. The young actress/singer finally realized she needed help with her alcohol abuse problem when she found herself passed-out on a hotel stair-case about a month ago.
Lohan hasn't even reached the legal age to drink yet and she's already an alcoholic in rehab.
You do the math....postchronicle.com

Trump Challenges McMahon
February 13, 2007
STAMFORD, Conn., February 13, 2007— Last night during the taping of RAW®, business icon Donald Trump may have overstepped his bounds when he challenged mogul Vince McMahon to a hair match that will take place at WrestleMania® 23 in Detroit on April 1 live on pay-per-view.
“It looks like Trump and McMahon will settle everything at WrestleMania 23 and Trump may get a haircut after it is all over,” said one excited WWE fan.
WWE Monday Night RAW® featuring Donald Trump’s WrestleMania 23 challenge to Vince McMahon will air during a special Thursday night edition of WWE Monday Night RAW on USA Network (8-10 pm ET/PT).
The two billionaires have been feuding for weeks, after Trump upstaged McMahon on WWE fan appreciation night by dumping thousands of dollars from an arena ceiling....corporate.wwe.com
Yuck. Gee Vince, I guess it's too much to ask to give the fans wrestling on a wrestling show. What happened to a good guy versus a bad guy with maybe a run-in by rival or a little cheating by a manager or some unnecessary chair shots? We understand that you need ratings and you consider your company more entertainment than wrestling. I can even live with the divas that can't wrestle. But Donald Trump? Jesus Christ....

Obama Hits Back After Australian PM Slams His Iraq Stance
CANBERRA, Australia (CNN) -- Australia's conservative Prime Minister John Howard said Sunday that victory for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama and his party in next year's presidential election would be a boon for terrorists.
"If I were running al Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008, and pray, as many times as possible, for a victory not only for Obama, but also for the Democrats," Howard said, speaking on "Sunday," a TV show on Australia's Nine Network.
March 2008 is when Obama has said he would bring U.S. troops home from Iraq, according to legislation he introduced in the Senate.
Obama, who represents Illinois in the U.S. Senate, declared his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination in a speech on Saturday in his home state. (Obama makes his announcement Video)
Howard -- who faces reelection this year -- is a staunch supporter of President Bush and committed Australian troops to help the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Like Bush, Howard has come under increased criticism at home for supporting the unpopular war.
Australia has more than 1,000 troops in and around Iraq, many in non-combat roles.
Obama, campaigning in Iowa, told reporters Sunday he's flattered that one of Bush's allies "started attacking me the day after I announced (his presidential run) -- I take that as a compliment."
The Democratic presidential hopeful said if the Australian prime minister was "ginned up to fight the good fight in Iraq," he needs to send another 20,000 Australians to the war.
"Otherwise, it's just a bunch of empty rhetoric," Obama said....CNN.com

Beauticians Cut, Curl, Offer Stroke-Prevention Info
SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- Two women in Cincinnati had better leave big tips the next time they get their hair done.
They survived strokes thanks to fast action by their beauticians, who were taking part in a novel program to raise stroke awareness as they clipped, straightened and braided their customers' hair.
One stylist noticed that a woman's speech was slurred, and called for help. Another woman called her hairdresser weeks after having been in the shop, describing symptoms she was having.
"The beautician recognized it as signs of a stroke, called 911, walked to the woman's apartment and waited with her until an ambulance arrived," said Dr. Dawn Kleindorfer, a University of Cincinnati neurologist who led the project and reported results at a recent American Stroke Association conference in San Francisco, California.
Beauticians and barbers increasingly are being used the way churches are to spread the word about stroke, cancer and other diseases. What they can do may be as important as any doctor, drug or diagnostic test.
That is because the key factor to surviving a stroke and limiting its damage is time. The main treatment -- a clot-busting medicine called tPA -- must be given within three hours of the start of symptoms to do any good. But fewer than 5 percent of stroke sufferers wind up getting it.
"By far the biggest reason is people delay going into the hospital because they don't know the signs or realize it's an emergency," Kleindorfer said.
She signed up dozens of stylists in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Atlanta, Georgia, in 2005 for a pilot project to teach customers the warning signs....CNN.com

Is Obama Black Enough?
For all the predictable outrage Joe Biden's recent comments about Barack Obama elicited, the gaffe put a spotlight on one of the more unfortunate forces fueling Obamania. Ever since Barack Obama first ascended the national stage at the 2004 Democratic convention, pundits have been tripping over themselves to point out the difference between him and the average Joe from the South Side. Obama is biracial, and has a direct connection with Africa. He is articulate, young and handsome. He does not feel the need to yell "Reparations now!" into any available microphone.
But this is a double-edged sword. As much as his biracial identity has helped Obama build a sizable following in middle America, it's also opened a gap for others to question his authenticity as a black man. In calling Obama the "first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," the implication was that the black people who are regularly seen by whites — or at least those who aspire to the highest office in the land — are none of these things. But give Biden credit — at least he acknowledged Obama's identity....You can read the rest of the article here.
