Update On Saturday Morning Slam GM

Following a press release on WWE.com yesterday, WWE has announced that SmackDown General Manager Booker T will help out in finding the new Saturday Morning Slam GM:

Starting this Saturday, March 2, the most exciting and fast-paced show in Saturday morning television — “WWE Saturday Morning Slam” — begins the search for a General Manager!

WWE’s Board of Directors has decided to find a GM to rein in the Superstars and Divas of “WWE Saturday Morning Slam.” The search occurs over the next three Saturdays — March 2, 9 and 16 — at 10:30 a.m. during the Vortexx block on The CW.

To aid in the managerial hunt, WWE’s Board of Directors has found just the man: SmackDown GM Booker T! Superstars and Divas will compete, jockey for position and try to impress the six-time World Champion enough to become the new boss of WWE’s hit kids show.

The three-week GM search promises to make the fastest, most energy-filled half-hour on television even more must-see. Tune in to exciting new episodes of “WWE Saturday Morning Slam” on The CW this and every Saturday at 10:30 a.m.!

Earlier this week, it was reported that Booker T named Mick Foley as an interim GM, and they have also said six Superstars will compete for a chance to earn the permanent GM position. WWE posted a picture of Booker standing with R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Zack Ryder, Daniel Bryan and Damien Sandow.

Survivor Series Teams Shake-Up

Oh, how quickly things change. Just last week it looked like WWE Champion CM Punk would be captaining a squad of Superstars against Mick Foley’s hand-selected team in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match, and now The Second City Saint is gearing up for a title defense at WWE’s fall classic against both John Cena and former Team Foley member Ryback.

Thanks to the head-spinning turn of events facilitated by Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero (with a gentle nudge from WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon) on the Nov. 5 edition of Raw, both teams have undergone radical transformations. Team Punk has replaced two members, starting at the top, and is now known as Team Ziggler, while Team Foley finds itself in need of a fifth member.

The alterations for the former Team Punk began when original team member The Miz criticized The Second City Saint’s leadership, or lack thereof, and informed Paul Heyman that he wanted no part of the WWE Champion’s unit.

Still thinking Punk would be a team captain come Nov. 18, Heyman aggressively sought out the services of Wade Barrett, who agreed to join in exchange for a yet-to-be-named favor from Heyman.

With his team seemingly at full capacity once more, Punk then had the ultimate rug pulled out from beneath him when Vickie announced that the WWE Championship will be defended at Survivor Series against both Ryback and Cena in a Triple Threat Match.

Sensing an urgent need to rebuild the Survivor Series teams, The Queen Diva subsequently moved Dolph Ziggler into position as the team’s new captain — a development that delighted The Showoff. Meanwhile, the rest of the former Team Punk — Alberto Del Rio and The Rhodes Scholars — remains intact, for now.

Team Foley will consist of Randy Orton, Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston, Team Hell No, and Ryback.

While Mick Foley will not be wrestling with Team Foley in the Survivor Series main event, Foley will be at ringside cheering his team on. Team Punk will have Paul Heyman and Ricardo Rodriguez at ringside.

Q&A with Kofi Kingston

Consistently one of WWE's most popular performers, Ghana's Kofi Kingston has grown accustomed to defending championships in high-pressure situations. And even though the main event at this Sunday's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view at Philips Arena features CM Punk (Kingston's one-time tag team partner) defending the WWE Championship against the wrestling machine known as Ryback inside the the gigantic steel cage, Kingston's Intercontinental Championship defense against former WWE Champion the Miz has quickly become one of the event's marquee match-ups. Considering that the happy-go-lucky Kingston spent his formative WWE stages at the now-defunct McDonough-based developmental promotion known as Deep South Wrestling, Hell in a Cell is also an odd sort of homecoming for the high-flying superstar. As he prepares for a match that could help push him into the main event picture, Kingston discusses his Deep South training, his history with the Miz and the unpredictable nature of WWE that led to this renewed rivalry...More?

Booker T Announces Tag Team Tournament

Team Hell No’s first defense of the WWE Tag Team Championships on a pay-per-view will happen Oct. 28 at WWE Hell in a Cell, but Kane & Daniel Bryan will have to wait a little while longer before finding out who their opponents will be.

Thanks to an earth-shattering announcement by General Manager Booker T on the Sept. 28 edition of SmackDown, the No. 1 contenders to the WWE Tag Team Champions will be determined via an eight-team tournament that will play out over the next several weeks.

WWE’s tag team division is arguably the deepest it has been in years, and the tournament format will provide a natural process of attrition. Whether the winning pair will ultimately have the tools necessary to exploit the obvious fault lines in Team Hell No’s exterior, however, remains to be seen.

The bracket revealed on SmackDown showed the following first-round matchups: Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) vs. Jimmy & Jey Uso; Santino Marella & Zack Ryder vs. Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd; former champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. The Prime Time Players (Darren Young & Titus O’Neil); and Epico & Primo vs. Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara.

The newly formed unit of Rhodes & Sandow put away The Usos in the first bout of the tournament on the very same night it was set up. With one team down, seven duos remain in contention.

WWE Stars Release Anti-Bullying PSA

WWE stars working with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) have released an “Amplify Your Voice” PSA designed to encourage young people to take a stand against all forms of bullying, and in particular anti-LGBT bullying.

The PSA, which was produced with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), features WWE Superstars and Divas Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, Sheamus and Kofi Kingston.

“Tides continue to shift as more and more athletes, celebrities and sports leagues speak out in support of equality for everyone,” said Mike Thompson, Acting President of GLAAD, in a statement. “By taking a stand against anti-LGBT bullying, WWE is sending a clear message that homophobia is unacceptable both in and outside of the ring.”

GLAAD began working with WWE earlier this year after the group raised concerns on behalf of the LGBT community regarding wrestler John Cena’s (always in-character) homophobic taunts. These taunts included references to the film Brokeback Mountain, to insinuating an opponent was a “fairy,” and that an opponent needed to be taught how to be a man.

Given that WWE had, at the time, recently started promoting itself as PG-rated entertainment, and that a large part of its fan-base is adolescent males, the concern was this kind of example could lead impressionable viewers to think it is acceptable to bully others on the basis of their perceived or actual sexual orientation.

GLAAD has since met with talent and editorial staff to discuss LGBT inclusion and the harms of anti-LGBT language.

Other celebrities to have participated include NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal, Russell Simmons, Vinny Guadagnino, Rev. Al Sharpton, Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Chaz Bono, Tori Spelling, Naya Rivera, Mario Lopez and Dustin Lance Black, among several others

WWE Announces Another Voting Error From Last Night's Raw

WWE.com has announced that the other voting error from last night's "Power of the People" edition of Monday Night Raw was in the Dolph Ziggler vs Kofi Kingston match. The stipulation fans "supposedly" voted for was "2 out of 3 Falls". However, WWE.com is now saying that it should have been Vickie Guerrero being banned from ringside.
