Just In Case Ariel Winter is Looking for a New Chaperone...

The mother of a young star on ABC's "Modern Family" is denying allegations that she physically and mentally abused her daughter.

A guardianship for Ariel Winter, 14, whose real name is Ariel Workman, has been granted on a temporary basis to sister Shanelle Gray, also an actress, after Winter alleged in a court filing that she was subject to ongoing abuse.

A judge last month ordered the actress' mother, Chrisoula Workman, to stay away from Winter and have no contact with the minor pending a Nov. 20 hearing on the guardianship and control of at least $500,000 in assets.

"Minor Ariel Workman has been a victim of on-going physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name calling, personal insults about minor and minor’s weight, attempts to sexualize minor, deprivation of food etc.) for an extended period of time by the minor’s mother, Chrisoula Workman….," her attorneys said in a petition for guardianship.

Workman told People magazine she did not abuse her daughter.

"It's all untrue, it's all untrue," she said to the magazine. "I have my doctor's letter that my daughter's never been abused.... I have stylists' letters that she's never been abused."

Ariel Winter, who first began acting as a 7-year-old, plays Alex Dunphy, the brainy, bespectacled member of the Dunphy clan in "Modern Family."

As is standard practice in such cases, an attorney is representing the interests of the young actress. To protect her earnings and existing assets, lawyers are seeking to move her money to accounts off limits from her mother.

The New York Times is projecting that Linda McMahon will lose the Connecticut State Senate race to Democrat Chris Murphy.

In related news, NBC's Brian Williams criticized McMahon for not suspending her campaign advertising during Hurricane Sandy. Williams had the following to say on Nightly News:

"In this part of the country, those who do have TV are seeing attack ads from a woman named Linda McMahon who is running for Senate up in Connecticut airing like nothing had changed juxtaposed against the damage," Williams said. "It's just a very strange time."

Former WWE broadcaster apologizes for inappropriate comment

It didn't take long for former WWE broadcaster Todd Grisham to stir up controversy at his new ESPN job. Grisham referenced the "trail of tears" while discussing the Oklahoma Sooners loss to Texas Tech in college football over the weekend.

Some viewers were offended because the phrase historically refers to American Cherokees being forcibly removed from their land. "The historical reference didn't even cross my mind," Grisham wrote on his Twitter page apology. You can read more at USAToday.com.

WWE Fan Arrested For Threatening to Blow Up Stamford Headquaters

Zavr Peygumbari is a serious wrestling fan in some serious trouble.

Peygumbari, 22, of Brooklyn, N.Y., is accused of calling the WWE headquarters on East Main Street more than 20 times last week, making threats to blow up the company's offices and saying he would visit the building with a machete and a machine gun, because it recently released former women's champion Mickie James, court records show.

He was arrested Friday and arraigned Monday afternoon at state Superior Court in Stamford. His defense attorney, Mickey Sherman, described Peygumbari as a fervent wrestling fan who did not intend to follow through on his threats.

Peygumbari was initially held at the Stamford Police Department this weekend on $250,000 bond. This was lowered to $5,000 Monday after Sherman argued for him to be released on a written promise to appear in court. Court records indicate he was known to New York City police as being emotionally disturbed.

During his arraignment, Peygumbari apologized to the court for the phone calls, calling them childish and foolish.

"I'm sorry for wasting the time of the courts and taxpayers' money," Peygumbari said while handcuffed and wearing a yellow T-shirt.

When Judge William Wenzel told Peygumbari he could not contact WWE employees, go near its Stamford offices, or attend their events, Peygumbari's response elicited chuckles from the courtroom.

"I'm not allowed to go to wrestling shows?" he asked...More?

SmackDown's Move to Syfy Profiled on MSNBC

Presumably fulfilling its post-rebranding promise to “Imagine Greater,” the former Sci Fi Channel — now known as Syfy — has imagined its way right out of the niche that made the cable network.

Forget about space operas, tech dramas or B-movie monsters, programming shake-ups reveal Syfy is ready to live up to its theme-less new name. If the recent announcement that “Top Chef” alum Marcel Vigneron would be joining the network for a cooking show called “Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen” wasn’t proof enough, Syfy’s acquisition of “Friday Night SmackDown” should be...More?

Update on Raw Crew Travel Issues

WWE will shoot some form of tonight's RAW from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It remains to be seen just who from the RAW brand will actually appear tonight. A few guys like Triple H, Carlito and Yoshi Tatsu are here in the States but the majority of stars including The Miz, Bret Hart, Randy Orton and many others likely will not be appearing on TV unless it's some kind of taped video. Stars from the movie MacGruber are scheduled to host tonight's show.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the current plan is to have the SmackDown crew carry the Raw show.

WWE is giving refunds to ticket holders that request them.

Update on WWE Travel Problems

The ash spat out by an Icelandic volcano that has left thousands of air travelers stranded is also affecting celebrities, filmmakers, musicians and even pro-wrestlers.

The WWE is nearing the end of a two-week European tour and several wrestlers and crew members traveled for nearly 17 hours in buses and ferries to make it from Lieven, France, to Belfast, Ireland. The trip normally takes about an hour and a half in a plane.

WWE spokesman Kevin Hennessy said it was unclear if everyone would arrive in time for Monday night's scheduled "WWE Raw" event at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. He said the WWE wrestlers and crew normally "fly commercial, but we are booking a charter just to be safe." Hennessy added that "Sunday is normally a simple travel day — very easy."...More?
