Roman Reigns undergoes emergency surgery
WWE.com has learned that Roman Reigns has undergone emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia. Reigns had been in Nashville to promote tomorrow's Night of Champions pay-per-view, and will now be unable to compete against Seth Rollins at the event.
WWE.com has spoken with WWE physican Dr. Chris Amann to get the latest.
"I was in contact with both Roman and the surgeon who performed the operation in Nashville today. Roman had developed acute abdominal pain in his hotel room last night after his match," Dr. Amann told WWE.com. "This wasn't related to a specific injury that occurred in the ring. Roman has had a pre-existing hernia for some time, which unfortunately had become acutely painful, which led to him going to the emergency room in Nashville. He was found to have a large hernia that was unable to be reduced, which means pushed back into the abdominal cavity. As a result, it was necessary to perform an emergent operation to open up the hernia sac and try and push it back into the abdominal cavity."
"At the time of the surgery, surgeons found a loop of small intestine was caught in the hernia sac, which would account for the pain and discomfort that Roman was having earlier in the evening," Dr. Amann explained. "The surgeons released the hernia sac so the intestine could be pushed back into the abdominal cavity. Once they were satisfied blood supply had returned to the intestine after releasing the hernia, they went ahead and completed the procedure. A mesh was placed over where the hernia had occurred to prevent future occurrences."
Now that the surgery has gone well, the clear next thought was when will the WWE Universe be able to see the powerhouse back in action.
"Roman has been transferred to the recovery room and is doing quite well. The plan is to keep him overnight, give him IV antibiotics to prevent infection and make sure the intestinal function returns to normal before discharging him from the hospital. If everything goes well, that should be tomorrow," Dr. Amann said. "Most of the time, the recovery time for something like this in terms of returning to physical activity is between four and six weeks. This was a pretty significant hernia, so it will probably be closer to six weeks."
WWE.com also asked Dr. Amann to elaborate on how this hernia differs from sports hernias, which sports fans know often lands top athletes on the injured list.
"This is a completely different type of hernia than sports hernia," Dr. Amann said. "A sports hernia usually refers to a tear in the lower abdominal wall that attaches to the ligaments. That type of tear is typically occurs from repeated activity or sports. Roman had what’s called an inguinal hernia. It can sometimes come from sports, but sometimes people are born with these. It is treated differently than a sports hernia."

Triple H wins ... always
When Triple H announced John Cena would be defending the WWE world heavyweight championship in a Fatal 4-Way match against Randy Orton, Kane, and Roman Reigns at the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) on Sun., July 20, 2014, at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Florida, the immediate reaction was to search for logic.
After all, why would he insert Reigns into the picture when that would seem counterintuitive? If the idea is to put the title back on Orton, why add Reigns to the match to gum up the works?
Then Monday Night Raw played out last night in Montreal and during the course of it, a hierarchy was clearly established with Reigns challenging Cena's status within it. In short, it's become less and less about Cena battling Orton or Kane and more and more about Reigns looking to usurp Cena as the top dog in the yard.
Triple H, in the midst of all this:
Anyone still wondering why we put @WWERomanReigns in the fatal four way? #alwaysastepahead
— Triple H (@TripleH) July 8, 2014
Don't you just love a good evil overlord?
Considering Cena's track record of success against both Orton and Kane, and his decided lack thereof with Reigns, this is the perfect play here, right? And when Triple H smugly declares it "best for business", he also means that on a literal level. Reigns is best for the story, and he's best for the selling of the actual event.
Because who the hell wants to watch Cena vs. Orton vs. Kane in 2014?
Triple H wins ... always.

Roman Reigns And UFC Champion Ronda Rousey Comment On Rousey Joining The Shield
As noted over the weekend, Roman Reigns was asked by a fan on Twitter if he thinks UFC Women's Champion Ronda Rousey should be a member of The Shield. Reigns replied and said she seems like a good fit, leading to this reply from Rousey and an exchange between the two:
Rousey: "How did I not see this till right now!? #thisisawesome @wweromanreigns "
Reigns: "@RondaRousey well hell lets get a vest on u and start tearing the world apart! #BreakEveryRuleInTheBook"
Rousey: "Btw I fan-girled out on that @WWERomanReigns tweet so bad I screwed up like 5 times lol"
WWE was reportedly interested in having Rousey appear at this year's SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Roman Reigns Talks Working With The Rock, Triple H, How He's Related To Rock And Usos
Reigns was asked about The Shield hitting The Rock with a triple power bomb through a table at last year's Royal Rumble. Reigns said that it was cool, even though it was in the dark (the lights went out for the attack). He called the Rock "a really cool dude" and said that he enjoyed hanging out with him earlier in the day before the show.
Reigns was asked about people thinking that he's the next big thing. Reigns said his goal it to be the top guy, and that should be everybody's. He said that everybody in The Shield wants to be the top guy, and noted how close they have all become. He said that they are always going to be a good team.
He credited Triple H for giving him a lot of advice, and called him a great resource. He also named Road Dogg, Michael Hayes and Jamie Noble as guys who have helped him. He said that the one person who has helped him the most is Joey Mercury, and that he's a "great help" anytime he's around.
Reigns was asked about his family and he said that he learns a lot from them. He noted that he's been close with The Usos since he was four years old. He was asked how he's related to some of the other members of his legendary family, and he replied:
Rikishi: First cousin.
The Usos: Second cousins.
The Rock Second cousin.
Umaga: First cousin.
Yokozuna: First cousin.

Rumor Mill - New Name Being Discussed For a Match Against Triple H At WrestleMania 30
There are a lot of current possibilities with the WrestleMania 30 card, as we have been reporting, and the final decision has yet to be made on some of the top matches.
Inserting Daniel Bryan into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match with Randy Orton and Batista is being discussed as we previously reported.
WrestleZone is reporting that if Bryan is put in the WWE title match, which would make a Shield triple threat match unlikely, then Triple H versus Roman Reigns is a strong possibility for the big event.
WWE is currently very high on Reigns, and the company would use the storyline of The Shield having been the henchmen for The Authority in the past year as the launching point of a singles match between Reigns and HHH.

Rumor Mill - Triple H - WrestleMania 30 Plans
WWE plans to end the long running "Authority" story line at WrestleMania 30, and right now the plan is to have Triple H face CM Punk in a match at the big PPV.
However, lately WWE has been discussing a possible Triple H vs Roman Reigns match as a potential "backup" plan to the CM Punk bout, as WWE has been teasing a Reigns babyface turn in recent weeks.

Rumor Mill - Backstage Talk About Roman Reigns, The Shield, Wyatt Family
Look for Roman Reigns of The Shield to eventually turn into a major babyface, but probably not for several months down the line. No word yet on what this will mean for Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.
There is talk that with The Shield possibly dissolving soon, The Wyatt Family will take their spot as the dominant heel stable. Look for The Wyatts to have a major feud against CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

Roman Reigns: "I Want to be the Absolute Top Guy in This Company"
4th and Pain recently had an opportunity to interview Roman Reigns of The Shield.
The show is hosted by Adam Carriker (@Adam Carriker94) of the Washington Redskins and Chuck Carroll (@TheChuckCarroll), a former wrestling announcer and weight loss champion. Reigns spoke about the formation of The Shield and his relationship with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. He also talked about his brief NFL career before transitioning to pro wrestling and the differences between the two. The biggest takeaway from the interview was Reigns opening up about his desire to break out as a singles wrestler and win the WWE Championship. "I want to be the absolute top guy in this company," he said.

Interview with Roman Reigns
One-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns recently spoke to EdmontonJournal.com to promote this week's SmackDown tapings. Here are a few highlights:
Playing the role of a heel: "If people want to boo me, that's great. As long as they're making noise and they're into it … when I'm out there, I want people to show if they're mad, they're happy, just some kind of emotion. They paid money to come out and cut loose a little bit, so that's what I intend on doing. I come out and cut loose and I let it all hang out. If I can elicit some kind of a response, that makes me happy, I know that. It doesn't bother me at all to have people boo me."
Comparing his football days with The Shield: "I've always been a physical athlete, so getting in the ring and being, in a sense, in-character is not me. It's always been an extension of myself. Being a part of The Shield, it's right up my alley to be an enforcer, to be the muscle of the group, almost like the D-linemen. A lot of times, that's how it looks. I'm the D-lineman and (Shield members) Seth (Rollins) and Dean (Ambrose) are like linebackers running free. I can free them up to do whatever they want and back up anything they feel or say, so it's a good feeling to be a part of the team again. I often think of it as it's third-and-long and I'm turning the corner and I have a free shot at a quarterback. Any time I have that opportunity, I'm going to bring it."
