What Was Chuck Liddell Doing Before, After UFC 71?

Chuck Liddell lost his Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title belt at UFC 71, and the world of mixed martial arts today is abuzz with talk about what Liddell was doing both before and after the fight. First, let's go to the video (courtesy of With Leather) that allegedly comes from after the fight:

Yeah, that doesn't look like a guy who's too despondent about losing.

And as for before, Sports by Brooks notes that fellow UFC fighter Vernon White suggested in an interview that Liddell was in substance-abuse rehab shortly before he lost his title to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

White later backtracked -- kind of -- from those remarks, but there has long been talk that Liddell could stand to have a little more commitment to his craft, and none of the information that has become available today will change that.

Earnhardt Jr. to drive for Hendrick in '08

Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Wednesday will announce his intent to move to Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2008, multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN.com Tuesday on condition of anonymity.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. likely won't be Driver 8 anymore, but will he still pilot the Budweiser Chevrolet?

Hendrick Motorsports declined comment, and e-mails and calls sent to Earnhardt's representation were not returned. A news conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday to officially announce the deal.

Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, who has handled contract negotiations for her brother, declined to comment on the report.

There was some speculation that the wheels are already in motion to plant Earnhardt in the No. 5 now driven by Kyle Busch before season's end, but Dale Earnhardt Inc. president Max Siegel, contacted by phone Tuesday, discounted that scenario, saying Earnhardt would remain in the No. 8 through season's end.

Sources said there are indications that Busch may not finish the year in the No. 5. Busch is under contract with HMS through the end of next season, and Hendrick had been working to sign the 22-year old driver to an extension.

Jeff Dickerson, an attorney for Busch, told ESPN.com that "a lot of things may or may not occur. Out of respect for Hendrick Motorsports, we're not really sure what's going on yet. But we're trying. I don't think anything's changed yet. I cannot tell you that Kyle is out of the No. 5 for 2008." ...More?

Radio Station Reports Vince McMahon Is Really Dead

In a "wow, I don't believe some people are fooled" moment, I was driving to work this morning and a local Connecticut radio station ( Kiss 95.7 ) was doing their daily "Hollywood Report" segment.

Basically the segment is a gossip page speaking about what's going on in Hollywood. This morning the segment reported the following, "In a scary moment, on live TV last night, Vince McMahon, the President of Stamford based WWE was killed when his limousine exploded on live TV. I would assume an investigation is in the works, but we'd like to send our condolences to his family and friends."

They then spoke for a minute or so about how that clip will probably become internet banter on sites like YouTube and whatnot, and they even spoke about "that wrestler who fell a few years ago", I can only assume they meant Owen Hart.

At first I thought it was tongue in cheek, but amazingly enough they were actually serious, which is scary.

I'm not sure if other places are reporting it as well, but I've been asked several times at work thus far today about "What happened to Vince last night?", all by non-wrestling fans.

If this is the publicity they want, I guess they're getting it, but why they'd want that kind of publicity is beyond me.

Last minute appeal in teen sex case sparks outrage

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Jubilation turned quickly to anger Monday after Georgia's top prosecutor vowed he would fight a judge's order that would have set free Genarlow Wilson, a Georgia man serving a 10-year prison sentence for a consensual sexual encounter he had as a teenager.

Wilson's attorney, B.J. Bernstein, said her client would not accept a proposed plea bargain that would get him out of prison because it would require Wilson to plead guilty to a felony.

A judge ruled Monday that his conduct should have been punished as a misdemeanor.

"We're going to keep fighting," Bernstein told reporters at a news conference at the state Capitol. (Watch Wilson's mom, lawyer's tearful reaction to the judge's ruling)

She was flanked by civil rights leaders and black lawmakers, who expressed anger at the decision by Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker to block Wilson's release by filing an appeal of the judge's ruling.

Joseph Lowery, former president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, called Baker's decision "unnecessary, unjust and unfounded."

"We don't understand the reasoning or rationale of the attorney general on this issue," Lowery said. (Watch Lowery call the top prosecutor's action absurd and unjust Video)
