Breaking News: Ric Flair Wants Out of the WWE

Apparently, Ric Flair quit WWE earlier in the week. The possible departure doesn't have anything to do with the recent drug scandal, he's simply frustrated with his push. Also, he hasn't had any encouraging communication from management.

WWE hasn't given Flair his release. WWE officials are trying hard to get him to cool off and not quit. They are having discussions to get things sorted because WWE doesn't want him to quit the company.

Major Chris Benoit Press Conference

A press conference will be held on September 5, 2007 at 10:45 a.m. Eastern at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York to release findings from the examination of the brain of Chris Benoit.

Michael Benoit, the father of Chris, gave Julian Bailes, MD, the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at West Virginia University, the rights to examine his son's brain. Michael Benoit will be speaking at the press conference along with Dr. Robert Cantu (Director of sports Medicine at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA) and Cary Itchter (Benoit's lawyer).

It is believed at this point that the findings reveal at the press conference will confirm damage that would enable a "diminished capaciy" defense for Chris Benoit's slaying of his wife and son before killing himself. As reported earlier, Michael Benoit will be appearing on ABC this Thursday on "Good Morning America" and "Nightline" to talk about the diminished capacity theory.

I Had Nothing to Do With It!

When Stephanie arrived, Mr. McMahon accused her of being “the volatile one.” In an attempt to show Stephanie the better times she’s had with her father, McMahon introduced a highlight video, which, to the horror of the Chairman, featured his match against Stephanie at No Mercy in 2003. A bemused Triple H appeared on the TitanTron, swearing he had nothing to do with the video switch...More?

Ken Kennedy on the Cover of the October WWE Magazine

Ken Kennedy will be on the cover of the October WWE Magazine. In light of his suspension, we'll have to see if the WWE will be promoting this.

Errant Steroid Claims

A WWE source said that "several names" identified by the media as being customers of Signature Pharmacy were inaccurate; these few allegedly did not have a link to the online pharmacy. As a report stated earlier, Batista is among those who claim to have been incorrectly linked to the alleged steroid distributor.

While the errantly named wrestlers are upset about the media coverage, WWE is opting not to allow them to address the media for fear of a backlash similar to that it faced during the fallout of the Benoit tragedy.

Statement from Batista

Dave Batista posted a response to the doping allegations on his official site:

To my fans and friends:

I categorically deny a report on ESPN.com, and repeated by other media outlets, that I am or ever have been a customer of Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, an on-line pharmacy company that is a target of an investigation by the Albany, New York District Attorney's Office.

I am being tested regularly by the WWE, and I am in full compliance with the WWE Wellness Program.

I regret the inaccurate reporting, and I will do all I can in the future to stop any publication or anyone from making such false accusations.

Cryme Tyme's Shad Speaks On Their Release From WWE

The following is from Shad's MySpace.com page:

Hi every one this is my first BLOG so bear with me, I'm not a computer guy. I figured this was the best whey to answer everyone's questions and give credible answers to the situation involving me and J. First I want to say thank you to WWE and all the talent in & out of the ring (Superstars, Divas, Agents, Production, Creative, Referees, Office, OVW, and more) for giving me the opportunity to follow my dreams and helping to mold and guide me in the right directions. I also would like to apologize to anyone I have hurt or disrespected. I am truly sorry...More?

Wrestling Media Update

In the 9/10 National Enquirer, there is a claim that Chris Benoit had a six month relationship with a female wrestler in Edmonton in 1986, which resulted in the birth of a daughter. According to the story, Benoit never denied he was the father, and now the mother and daughter want to claim part of Benoit's estate.

HBO dropped the idea of doing a follow up story to their 2003, even though the network plugged the piece on air. We previously noted that HBO had wanted to interview Konnan, but got cold feet when TNA forwarded a letter from Konnan. Hulk Hogan was contacted about an interview, but he turned them down. Vince McMahon also wasn't interested in talking with HBO.

NBC is working on a piece for a special one hour "Dateline." The piece may focus on the Benoit tragedy, but that could change.

UFC Fires Babalu, Now Nevada State Athletic Commission Must Act

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has fired Renato "Babalu" Sobral for his actions at UFC 74, holding onto his choke hold even after his opponent, David Heath, tapped out.

But while Babalu issued a statement saying he was sorry for the damage he did to the sport of mixed martial arts, this shouldn't be over just yet. The Nevada State Athletic Commission should impose a long suspension on Babalu, preventing him from fighting with other mixed martial arts organizations. Unfortunately, NSAC executive director Keith Kizer indicates that won't happen...More?

Another Missed Opportunity for Ken Kennedy

**Spoiler***

Despite weeks of speculation that Mr. Kennedy would be Vince's child -- it was revealed that Ken Kennedy is NOT Vince's bastard child!

We're told that Ken Kennedy absolutely was booked to be Vince's bastard, but his suspension (for his connection to a corrupt Internet pharmacy) has lead WWE to change direction on yet another Vince McMahon angle.

This is a very tough break for Mr. Kennedy. First he was scheduled to win the SmackDown! Heavyweight Title and suffered a bad injury that left him sidelined for months and those plans had to be changed. Now, just as he was about to be the center of a major storyline that would have catapulted into true main event status. Unfortunately for Kennedy, he pulled the rug out from under himself this time.

Rep. Cliff Stearns tightens grip on WWE over steroids

By moving to suspend 10 of its performers for possible steroid violations Thursday, the WWE proved one thing: "The WWE does not have a drug policy that's worth a flip," U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) told the Daily News yesterday. "Because the WWE didn't catch them, the district attorney in (Albany) New York investigated and found them."...More?
