California's State Athletic Commission is getting ready to start taxing professional wrestling. Bill Douglas of the CSAC is currently organizing a meeting of wrestling promoters in the Southern California area to discuss "where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going with this." He said right now professional wrestling in CA was unregulated and would continue to be so, but they were keeping an eye on Congressional hearings and that if regulation in the state actually happens, "look forward to California testing wrestlers across the board the way we do for boxing, kickboxing, and MMA which means testing for anabolic agents, masking agents, diuretics, and drugs of abuse". Reports say they're going to take 5% of all event gates or $500 upfront, effective immediately.

UFC leader White needs to learn how to cope with competition
...White surely counted on competition, but there's no way he could have predicted the proliferation of fight organizations. Loaded with cash, but not necessarily good business models, these fly-by-night groups are largely unknown. They have money to make headlines, but no one knows if they'll have the staying power of UFC, which was founded in 1993.
Still, White believes UFC runs the industry, much like promoter Vince McMahon and pro wrestling. That's a false reality. White's obnoxious and pompous comments that degrade the fighters -- he said in one report that he "owns" Couture -- might make for great stories, but he might be helping his own demise...White needs to make the big fights a reality. His feud with Chuck Liddell has turned a cash cow into a sinking ship. Can you imagine boxing promoter Don King or McMahon purposely tarnishing their biggest moneymakers?...More?

Report from Newcastle Signings
This is a report from a fan at the Newcastle signings:
Last Monday I was at the Batista signings in Newcastle, England. We got told that he was at the building but he didn't come out until 45 minutes later than what he was supposed to arrive at. I think he might have had his make up done I’m not sure. He wasn't in a good mood apparently. The security guard told us that you can only get pictures taken with them depending on how they feel and if they've had a good training session and journey. We weren't allowed to take any with him but were allowed like one or two of him. Also whilst talking to the security guard he said Triple H is the nicest wrestler he's went to an autograph session with. [Thanks to Raz G]
