More Steiner Fallout

Keven Eck of The Baltimore Sun gives his thoughts on the Scott Steiner interviews:

Triple H – For someone like Steiner who loathes the political games in wrestling, it’s no surprise that he has nothing good to say about “The Game.” I don’t think it’s accurate, however, when Steiner says that Triple H only got his spot on top because he is married to Stephanie McMahon. Triple H was among the upper echelon and won his first WWE world title before hooking up with Stephanie. He deserves his spot as one of the top guys in the company. However, I don’t think he would be a 12-time world champion if he wasn’t married to Vince McMahon’s daughter. And I do think he has used his political influence to try to keep down certain guys that he perceived as a threat to his spot – namely Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle. On the other hand, he was instrumental in making superstars of Batista and Randy Orton. And, just like Flair, Triple H has been a victim of politics at times in his career, too...More?

Superstars encourage students to read

As the doors to Mrs. Perry’s fifth grade classroom swung open, student Johnny Hart’s mouth opened wide. Hart couldn’t believe his eyes. He frantically turned his head around to his classmates. “Oh my God! That’s MVP, of SmackDown,” whispered Hart, in an attempt not to disrupt Perry’s well-managed class environment.

SmackDown’s highest-paid Superstar, wearing one of his signature Italian, tailor-made black suits, black Gucci shoes, black Cartier sunglasses, and enough “ice” around his neck and wrist to freeze Southern California, strutted into class with ECW Diva Layla by his side. The former United States Champion and 2006 Diva Search winner were at Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School to encourage students to read...More?

The Straightshot- A Lesson in Absolutes

Greg Andrews of ProWrestling.com wrote an article about the WWE being vulnerable to a hostile take over in the wake of Vince's demise.

Ok, this guy is an idiot. He doesn't know who will be in charge of the WWE upon Vince's passing, although I would assume before that happens they will finally acknowledge that Hunter is a member of the creative team. He praises Vince for being smart enough, ruthless enough and brave enough to build his empire, but then assumes is isn't smart enough, ruthless enough and brave enough to have a succession plan in place. Go figure.

As far as "money men" stepping in and creating other promotions or wrestlers/agents/staff leaving to start their own companies, such as what happened with the NWA, so what? Competition makes everyone better.

Response to Scott Steiner's comments about Triple H

From Matthew Fargher of wrestling-edge.com:

Ok, I was just reading about an interview that Scott Steiner gave with some magazine and the things he said in that interview I find pretty funny. First of all, he was going on about how the only way that Triple H got to look good is because he married the boss’ daughter. Now, I am not going to say that getting married to the boss’ daughter didn’t give him an in with the boss that few other wrestlers have, but to say that’s the only way Triple H got over is ridiculous. First of all let’s consider who is running his mouth about how bad Triple H is, Scott Steiner.

Now I haven’t followed Steiner's career back to front but from what I have seen of him recently and in his WWE days he is one of the worst workers in wrestling. He is so stiff and old that it’s even difficult for someone like Kurt Angle to get a good match out of him. I have heard people talk about him being able to deliver a good promo but I have to disagree. I watched his ridiculous ‘percentages’ promo a few weeks ago on Impact and I don’t even think he knew what he was talking about. To try and compare him to Triple H who has had numerous match of the year contenders and is able to cut a great promo is just insulting. Although I will concede that I wouldn’t want to have sex with Chyna.

Alves Stops Hughes in UFC 85 Main Event

Entering his UFC 85 main event against Matt Hughes, Thiago Alves’ right ankle was sprained and heavily taped, but apparently his left knee was just fine as he used it to score a stunning second round TKO over the former two-time UFC welterweight champion in front of 15,327 fans at the O2 Arena Saturday night...More?

New SmackDown Title - WWE Divas Championship

SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero didn’t wait until draft day to announce a brand new SmackDown women’s title – the WWE Divas Championship.

The GM also wasted no time in allowing seven Divas to compete for an opportunity at the new title by setting up a qualifying Golden Dreams Match. Michelle McCool, Cherry, Kelly Kelly, Victoria, Natalya, Maryse and Layla all fought tough – attempting to grab the gleaming gold star hanging from a pole in the specialty match – but it was Natalya who came out on top and will now compete for the new title.
