Plight of Champions

In a rare champion vs. champion encounter, WWE Champion Triple H and Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho went head-to-head on Raw in a non-title match that ended with Lance Cade’s unexpected interference. Despite the emergence of John Cena, who came to aid his Night of Champions opponent, it was Y2J’s alliance with the hostile former World Tag Team Champion that stood tall...More?

WWE attorney responds to Muchnick's mush

WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt sent a lengthy email to author Irvin Muchnick on Monday regarding a list of the author's top nine "unanswered questions" regarding the Benoit family tragedy. Muchnick posted the email and you can read it here.

I think that McDevitt's most important statement came at the end of his email:

"In closing, try as you might, Chris Benoit, and only Chris Benoit, is factually, legally, and morally responsible for the murders of his wife and child and his decision to commit suicide rather than face the legal consequences for committing two first degree murders. Notwithstanding your desire to shift blame to WWE by your ill-conceived conspiracy theories in order to promote yourself or a book, please try to get your facts correct in the future."

I am a die hard fan of wrestling and have been since I was a kid. I love to watch the guys in the ring, but I wouldn't want to do it myself. I think at this stage of the game, the guys know what they are getting into. I don't understand placing the blame for concussions and/or head injuries on an employer, when you spent years trying to get into an industry that by definition is a physical job. As JR would say, "it ain't ballet". True, the WWE should have instituted their "wellness policy" long before Eddie Guerrero's death, but smoking something, snorting something, and/or shooting something is an individual choice. As with any job, if you choose to do those things you may suffer consequences that aren't pleasant. Chris killed his family and then committed suicide for reasons that we will never know. The only good that has come of the situation is an increased awareness as to the steroid/ concussion problem and the WWE has taken the necessary steps to keep their organization clean.

As the anniversary of the Benoit murder/suicide draws closer, expect more on this subject. There will be more books and a lawsuit against the WWE. Where were all these "concerned" people before Chris snapped?....

Music a key element in WWE brand profile

It broadcasts television shows in 130 countries and in 20 languages. It averages a weekly global audience of 47 million viewers. It aired tongue-in-cheek videotaped messages from Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama during an April broadcast. It is a pop culture phenomenon.

And yet there's something missing that World Wrestling Entertainment still yearns for: the respect of the recording industry...More?

JR Comments on Michael Hayes

"Yours truly looks forward to seeing old friend Michael Hayes return to work with the WWE which I understand might be this Monday in Salt Lake City for the live Monday Night Raw. As reported on many websites over the past several weeks, Michael made a mistake and a terrible error in judgment that has cost him severely.

"Sitting home for 60 days without pay and being demoted and losing current and future income are appropriate and significant punishments. Michael’s problem, in my personal opinion, are manifested and enhanced by one evil and that is abuse of alcohol... It is my understanding that Michael has received counseling for his alcohol issues which I am truly thankful to hear."
