Ranking WWE's Women

1. Stephanie McMahon. How can you not rank the daughter of Vince McMahon No. 1 on this list? She will be in this business as long as the McMahons run it. It doesn't matter if she has a few more kids (Triple H and her have two daughters right now). Expect to see her back on TV before long. While she's instrumental to how things run behind the scenes, she'll remind fans of the Stephanie character again one day soon...More?

For one generation of fans, he is “The King of Memphis” and the guy who slapped Andy Kaufman on Late Night with David Letterman. J.R. comments on Ric Flair

The announcement a few days ago that Ric Flair and the WWE had mutually agreed to part ways surprised me. When I last spoke to Ric in person we were in Charlotte for Smackdown and I spent several hours with "Naitch" that lasted well into the middle of the evening/early morning. He had several family members with him and Ric seemed really to be having fun...More?

Big Ruling in the Randy Couture/UFC Legal Battle

The ongoing legal battle between Marc Cuban's HDNet and the Ultimate Fighting Championships over the contractual status of Randy Couture has taken another turn - and it's not good news for "The Natural." Couture is prohibited from fighting until the mess is resolved and recent ruling from the Texas Court of Appeals escalates the legal battle and draws out the whole process even further...More?

Bourne, Knox shine on ECW

Chavo Guerrero (El Paso, Texas) & Bam Neely (Robbinsdale, Minn.) vs. Evan Bourne (St. Louis, Mo.) & Ricky Ortiz (Paradise Valley, Ariz.)

Striker points out all the talent that has come out of Robbinsdale. I'm sure a lot of the audience had no idea who the likes of Rick Rude and Curt Hennig are. He also points out that Ortiz is the only WWE superstar to ever play in the XFL. Now that's interesting!

After a back-and-forth beginning, Guerrero and Neely gain control of Ortiz, working him over with headlocks and the like. Eventually, he gets the tag to Bourne who goes to work on Neely. Bourne is on fire here and catches Neely an incredibly awesome roll-up for the win. Winners via pinfall: Evan Bourne & Ricky Ortiz.

Mike Knox Promo
We're back and Mike Knox is joining us in the ring. After his little backstage promo last week, I must admit I'm interested in a follow-up.

Knox says he's here to expose the fraud called Finlay. He tells everyone to roll the footage. They go to the SummerSlam promo of he and Hornswaggle dancing in a park at a picnic.

Knox says Finlay used to be one of the toughest men in the business. Now, he spends his time dancing around with a Leprechaun. Finlay, not in wrestling gear, interrupts and he and Hornswaggle head down to the ring.

Finlay says he likes to have fun and he loves his family and if Knox has a problem with him or his family, then take a shot. Finlay says Knox better knock him out because if he doesn't, he'll find out if he's gone soft or not. Knox backs away and exits the ring to a "you suck" chant.

Steve Anderson is tired of Triple H Haters

An absolute must read by Steve Anderson of wrestelzone.com:

Hating Triple H is a popular sport. Actually, it has been for going on for nearly a decade. He is a favorite punching bag. He is a heat magnet.

He is a master politician. And I don’t mean that in a negative way.

Look at his WWE career. He was, at best a mid-card performer when he debuted in that silly, bowing snob gimmick. He was de-pushed and punished following the ’96 MSG Incident (I hate that overused term as much as the “Calgary Screwjob”). After he served his sentence, he led DX in a war against WCW and became a major player in the launch of the attitude era.

By 1999, he was WWE champion and has held that title (including the World Heavyweight championship version) multiple times. His detractors, and there are many, say that he got where he is today by working the system, marrying the boss’ daughter, and man*pulating like a master politician.

There’s that term again…master politician.

Those who know the business fully realize that the cream does not always rise to the top. The best ring performers do not always get the main event push, nor do they always wear a championship belt. That is not to say that the wrestling/sports entertainment business is not about talent. It is. But it is also about marketability and the ability to politic.

Triple H has that skill and it has brought him great success...More?

Eric Bischoff comments on Ric Flair leaving the WWE

"But I cant help to wonder about Ric Flair’s motivation to leave WWE. In some ways, Ric Flair is in a similar position to Brett Favre. In May I wrote in my blog “Finally” about how happy I was for Ric, that he could retire on a grand stage like Wrestlemania with the love, support, and respect from the people around him. To have the opportunity to retire in a way that put a proud period at the end of the last sentence of a great book that was Ric’s career is rare and should be appreciated.

If Ric asked for his release from WWE in order to pursue a career as a public/corporate speaker, I wish him the best. Ric is great in front of a crowd, and if charm and charisma were publicly traded commodities on the New York Stock Exchange, Ric would be a walking Fortune 500 company.

But if Ric is being driven by his “sense of self”, and is contemplating a return to the ring as a result, I fear, that the special moment that was Ric’s retirement and in many respects his legacy, will be diluted forever in the process."
