Judge Rules Voters Can Wear WWE Paraphernalia to Polls

A federal judge today ordered that no one be barred from wearing clothing or paraphernalia related to World Wrestling Entertainment.

U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton issued the order in response to a lawsuit filed by WWE Chairman Vincent McMahon against Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.

Arterton ruled that Bysiewicz and other election officials “shall not apply the election laws of the state of Connecticut to prohibit Plaintiff and other voters from wearing WWE clothing, paraphernalia or merchandise within 75 feet of polling places on November 2, 2010.”

“I am pleased that Connecticut voters have had their freedom of expression to wear WWE merchandise and their right to vote restored,” McMahon said in a press release.

The Undertaker, Mark Calaway, was ringside answering questions about the title bout with Fight Magazine's Ariel Helwani when Lesnar emerged from the octagon and began walking toward the pair on his way back to the dressing rooms. After a brief stare-down, a deathly serious 'Taker asked, "You wanna do it?"

WWE Makes CT Secretary of State Back Down

“The moment Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz issued an un-American, unconstitutional and discriminatory directive prohibiting voters from wearing WWE merchandise at the polls, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal should have immediately stepped in to enforce the law. As a result of the Attorney General’s inaction, I brought suit to enforce these basic, fundamental constitutional rights. Within hours of filing the lawsuit, Blumenthal recused himself, and Bysiewicz reversed her position and immediately notified all Local Registrar of Voters and Town Clerks via email. I am pleased that Connecticut voters have had their freedom of expression and their right to vote restored,” said Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO, World Wrestling Entertainment.
