SmackDown Results: Yellow, Black and Blue

After The Nexus threatened to take over SmackDown at the start of the night, the blue brand’s Superstars defended their turf in a massive 10-Man Tag main event. Despite Alberto Del Rio inexplicably walking away from the battle, and obvious differences amongst themselves, the blue brand was able to thwart The Nexus. In the closing moments of the war, The Rated-R Superstar avoided a chokeslam from his own teammate – World Heavyweight Champion Kane – then Speared both The Big Red Monster and David Otunga to get the win for his team. Steve Austin made the following comments regarding his rumored RAW appearance in December on the Wrestling Voice podcast:

"I heard those rumors. I started hearing them last night and I started hearing them this morning on the computer. Man, I haven't heard anything about that.

I'm getting ready to leave to film a movie in a week. When I get done with that, I'll be in Texas. Then, I'm coming back to work on another movie. If I'm supposed to be in Albany in December, I was figuring to be in Texas. Nobody has told me anything."

Since winning the second season of WWE NXT, Kaval has had some difficulty making an impact on SmackDown. Using some stunning high-risk maneuver to throw The All-American American off his game, Kaval came very close to scoring his first win in WWE. But the rookie was ultimately blindsided by Swagger’s “Soaring Eagle,” allowing the former World Heavyweight Champion to apply the ankle lock for a tainted submission victory. Full results.

WWE Announces Economic Impact of WrestleMania XXVI

WWE announced today the WrestleMania 26 PPV held in March generated $45.1 million in "economic impact" to the Phoenix/Glendale, Arizona market.

The PPV event, which featured Shawn Michaels's retirement match, created over $45 million of "direct, indirect, and induced impact" from non-locals specifically visiting the area for WrestleMania, according to WWE's news release.

This year's study conducted by Enigma Research Corporation concluded that WrestleMania Week created 510 full-time jobs in the area and 63 percent of fans were from outside of Phoenix.

Also, the study concluded that 58 percent of fans were between the ages of 40 and 40. Moving lower down the scale, the study concluded 23 percent of fans were between the ages of 5 and 19.

The following is a break down of the last three years, which is indicative of the recent downturn in WWE's business along with softness in the U.S. and global economies:

WM24 in Orlando: $51.5 million economic impact
WM25 in Houston: $50.0 million economic impact
WM26 in Phoenix: $45.1 million economic impact

Rumor Mill - Plans for Several Top WWE RAW Stars

WWE's creative team has discussed holding a Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett program at some point in 2011.

The Nexus spokesman is said to be "super over" with key personnel in the organization and has consequently overtaken the position held by Sheamus earlier this year. They also feel he has surpassed the "Celtic Warrior" in garnering heat from the audience.

Also on tap for Barrett is the climax of his feud with John Cena early next year, and a subsequent WrestleMania program with The Undertaker—providing the SmackDown star is healthy.

Barrett and Sheamus, as well Cena and Randy Orton, are considered the focal points of RAW going forward, until Triple H returns and joins the main event mix. Sheamus' current program with John Morrison is considered a placeholder feud until the "King of Kings" returns to action.

WWE Reports 2010 Third Quarter Results

>br>“In the third quarter, our results reflected the Company’s continued focus on optimizing business results in a difficult environment,” stated Vince McMahon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We generated earnings growth despite a decline in revenue across many of our businesses. We believe our ongoing talent transition and the sluggish economy were important factors in these declines. Based on our history of developing talent and creating content with broad appeal, we are confident we can address these creative challenges. Further, by taking advantage of our strategic opportunities, we can achieve meaningful growth.”...More?

WWE Chief Operating Officer Donna Goldsmith read a prepared statement at today's investor conference call where it was noted that the transition in talent had an affect on the company's latest financial results.

Explaining the company's soft business, Goldsmith noted Shawn Michaels and Batista retiring following WrestleMania, The Undertaker and CM Punk missing time with injuries, and that Chris Jericho was "temporarily out of the ring."

Goldsmith said the company is focused on developing new stars, specifically naming Wade Barrett, Alberto Del Rio and The Nexus.

In regards to WWE Studios projects, she noted their productions set for 2011 will have smaller budgets compared to before.
