Tara Looking to Prove a Point in TNA Wrestling

"Backstage, a lot of the wrestlers are predominantly male and we want to be known as just as good as the guys," says Tara, who will face Mickie James Sunday at the TNA "Final Resolution" pay-per-view in a Falls Count Anywhere match. "There are only a few segments with the Knockouts on the show so every segment you catch, we want to be perfection."...More?

Report From WWE Crew In Afghanistan

Hey guys, it's subscriber and friendly American Forces Network reporter Petty Officer Dustin Diaz. Anyway I just got back from tonight's Tribute to the Troops goodwill event. Vince McMahon, Big Show, Eve Torres and Kelly Kelly are all here at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. They got in yesterday and did a meet and greet, which I didn't attend, then today, they went to some forward operating bases in the area to meet troops. By tonight's event, they were all clearly pretty run-down from the travel and pace. Right before dinner, where I met up with their group, Kandahar was hit with a rocket attack. Once the all-clear went off, I met them at the dining facility, then we went to the USO. I interviewed all four of them for the story I am doing and they all had great things to say, especially Big Show, who got very emotional when talking about what visiting deployed troops means to him. Then they spent a good hour meeting a lot of excited troops from every branch, taking pictures and shaking hands with everybody. Vince in particular was very engaged and happy to meet everyone. Anyway the event was a big hit; if you want, I can send you a link to my story when it gets online on Monday. MC1(SW) Dustin Q. Diaz, USN.

WWE Superstars Results: Fall of The Hart Dynasty

For the first time ever, former WWE Tag Team Champions Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith squared off in what everyone in the WWE Universe knew would be a heated battle. Since violently parting ways three weeks ago on Raw, the ex-members of The Hart Dynasty have been burning to lock up and the first showdown between these two young talents was nothing short of a war. Called the best pound for pound competitor on the WWE roster by CM Punk, the spiteful Kidd knew he’d have to utilize every hold he learned in the fabled Hart Dungeon to bring down his powerful opponent. But the grappler was shocked when Smith won the match not with his strength, but with an unexpected pinning counter. Feeling that they’d settled their differences, David Hart Smith offered his hand to Tyson Kidd, but only received a slap in the face in return. Clearly, this conflict is far from over. Full results.

MVP Leaves WWE

Just a short time after mass layoffs cut the WWE roster by a significant number of employees, another Superstar has left the company.

MVP (Montel Vontavious Porter) was announced by WWE.com today as having been released by the company. Around the same time that WWE posted the news, Porter explained via his Twitter account (@The205MVP) that the termination was at his request.

"No need for alarm. I did not get fired," Porter said. "I asked for & received my release. I felt it was time to go international & freshen things up.

Heavyweight Champions

Ask most Pittsburghers about the city's contributions to professional wrestling, and you'll likely hear the name Kurt Angle, the former Olympian who doubled down on his fame by becoming a professional-wrestling superstar. Older fans will recall the greatness of Bruno Sammartino, who once squared off against the likes of Ivan Koloff and Cowboy Billy Watts.

Very few Pittsburghers will mention Jerry McDevitt. And yet it may be McDevitt, an attorney with the law firm of K&L Gates, whose legacy will be the most lasting.

McDevitt has represented World Wrestling Entertainment since the late 1980s. Over the years, he has helped its performers, and impresario Vince McMahon himself, out of various legal scrapes. And McDevitt helped establish a medical-testing program to protect the wrestlers' health -- a program that was a key issue in the failed Connecticut Senate bid of McMahon's wife, Linda.

After Eddie Guerrero's death in 2006, with McDevitt's recommendation, WWE turned to another Pittsburgher: Joseph Maroon, UPMC's director of neurosurgery to set up what they now refer to as their Wellness Program.

When McDevitt first introduced Maroon to Linda McMahon, the neurosurgeon admits he "did wonder, quite frankly, what this was all about. Because I had no background in it whatsoever."

But Maroon, who has also served on the NFL's head-injury committee and is the Pittsburgh Steelers' team neurosurgeon, soon saw an opportunity.

"I spent my entire career trying to fix the cars after they were already broken," he says. But working with WWE was a "chance to institute preventative measures. ... And I truly believe that this is the best preventative medical program I have ever seen in sports."...More?
