Linda McMahon Among Republicans Planning to Skip GOP Convention

The campaign for Connecticut Senate candidate Linda McMahon confirmed Thursday that if the former World Wrestling Entertainment executive wins the Republican Senate nomination Aug. 14, she won't be helping to formally nominate Mitt Romney. "Our focus is going to be on campaigning in Connecticut," McMahon campaign spokeswoman Kate Duffy first told the Connecticut Mirror.

McMahon, who unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2010, is likely to face criticism similar to that being lobbed at Democrats--that she is skipping the convention to distance herself from her party. McMahon's campaign didn't immediately respond to Yahoo News' request for comment Friday.

McMahon is one of several Republican candidates who have recently announced plans to skip the convention...More?

Television Ratings for Live Edition of SmackDown 07/03/12

The live WWE Super Smackdown episode scored a 1.70 rating, which was down one-tenth of a rating compared to Friday's episode last week. Smackdown averaged 2.54 million viewers, which was down 3.6 percent compared to the taped Friday episode four days earlier. Super Smackdown did reverse a downward trend for the live specials. The previous live special on April 10 averaged a dismal 2.24 million viewers and the February special averaged 2.33 million viewers.

On cable, Smackdown ranked #8 in overall viewers (the first hour ranked #1 on cable TV). Syfy will be pleased with a #1 ranking in key male demos on Tuesday night. Syfy will not be pleased with the "Haunted Highway" episode that was heavily promoted during Smackdown drawing fewer than one million viewers following Smackdown. Also, Highway drew less than half of Smackdown's key male audience.

More on the WWE Network

The current plan for the WWE Network is to have every pay-per-view except WrestleMania be included. An alternate plan was all but two pay-per-views (WrestleMania and SummerSlam) being on the Network. WWE would continue offering pay-per-views like they always have to people whose cable companies don't have access to the Network or to people looking to buy just single events.
