More on Shane McMahon Leaving WWE

Jerry Jarrett said in a "Torch Talk" years ago that he remembers a time where he had dinner with the entire McMahon family when Shane and Steph were teenagers. A comment was made about Shane taking over the family business some day and Stephanie interjecting, with a sense of entitlement and determination, that she, not Shane, would run WWE some day. I've heard similar stories over the years from others.

In other words, even when they were teenagers, Stephanie had her eye on running WWE some day. Shane, the less dominant personality, has always known he'd have competition for being the "next McMahon" to run WWE.

Maybe Shane wasn't pleased with Stephanie calling him out as being irresponsible, more interested in a night on the town than running WWE, as she recently did on Raw. As has been well-established over the years, a lot of what is said on WWE TV on any given week is an expression of Vince McMahon's feelings at that particular moment. Maybe Vince was sending Shane a message. However, even more likely is that Shane does want to get out from under the shadow of his father and sister. With his mother leaving WWE to pursue a seat in the Senate, it trailblazed the path for Shane to also leave without being branded disloyal to the family business...More?

Preview: SmackDown vs. Raw WWE Bragging Rights Tag Match

Joining co-captains Triple H & Shawn Michaels of DX are several of the Monday night brand’s most electrifying Superstars, including Unified Tag Team Champion Big Show, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger and Kofi Kingston.

Team SmackDown co-captain, Unified Tag Team Champion Chris Jericho, must also be feeling confident, however – Kane declared himself co-captain with Jericho, and their squad consists of some of the finest Friday night ring warriors, including Dolph Ziggler, Cryme Tyme’s Shad & JTG, Eric Escobar and Drew McIntyre.

Unlike more traditional matches which are generally decided by each individual combatant’s strength and courage, the outcome of this unprecedented event will rely profoundly on which side can produce a more cohesive combination of team chemistry and tactics...More?

SmackDown Results: Earning the Right to “Brag”

In Friday night’s main event, longtime friends and WWE Bragging Rights Fatal-4-Way contestants Rey Mysterio and Batista were forced to go one-on-one. After a competitive battle, Mysterio pulled off the win, pinning The Animal. Although there was some question regarding whether or not one of Batista’s shoulders had been fully on the canvas, the ref’s call stood. After Batista conceded the win to his friend and exited the ring, CM Punk rushed out of the crowd and into the ring, dropping Mysterio with the Go to Sleep. The Animal came charging back to drive Punk off. Full results.

CT Dems Discover 'Katie Vick'

In a release today, the Connecticut Democratic Party sent reporters links to WWE videos they say objectify women. Among the videos are wrestlers engaged in a simulated rape, a public sex scene and one depicting a wrestler having sex with a corpse.

Connecticut Dems' spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan, who used to work for Sen. Chris Dodd (D), issued a statement this afternoon:

"As WWE Chief Operating Officer, Linda McMahon presided over programming that showed simulated rape, public sex and necrophilia, and now she wants to be our U.S. Senator? People across this state, not to mention the millions of women who are the victims of sexual violence every year, would be horrified and embarrassed to know that the person who seeks to represent them condones this kind of behavior. That kind of programming has no place in our society, and Linda McMahon has no place in the U.S. Senate."...More?

Shane McMahon's Statement to the WWE Universe

The following has been posted on wwe.com:

It is with great sadness that I announce my resignation from the WWE effective January 1, 2010.

I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my father for the incredible education working with him has provided and for giving me the opportunity to play a role in building WWE into the global phenomenon that it is today. I am extremely proud to have been the 4th generation in this business, and I am grateful for everyday I was able to work along side not only my own, but the entire WWE family.

Thank you to all of the WWE Superstars both past and present for your passion, pride and dedication. You are truly the engine of the organization and it has been a pleasure to work with, learn from and get to know all of you. Thank you for the privilege of sharing the stage with you and for allowing me to become but a momentary member of your elite brotherhood. I have so much appreciation for the many sacrifices you endure, both physically and personally, to make this business the success that it is. The respect I have for each of you is immeasurable.

Finally, there are no words to express my gratitude to WWE fans the world over for supporting this company through good times and bad and for your unbridled passion that fuels the Superstars’ performances. I am profoundly grateful to have been able to entertain you both in front of the camera and from behind the scenes. You are the greatest fans in the world.

I will always love this business and will remain a fan forever.

WWE Superstars Results: Devious Disruption

While sitting ringside with Todd Grisham during the main event of “WWE Superstars,” United States Champion The Miz took the time to scout his former tag team partner and opponent at WWE Bragging Rights, Intercontinental Champion John Morrison. It wouldn’t be long, however, before the arrogant Superstar would interfere. With Morrison seemingly about to deliver some Starship Pain on CM Punk, The Miz stormed into the ring and intentionally attacked The Straightedge Superstar to disqualify The Guru of Greatness. Former WWE Wrestler Calling for Change in the Business

The Sports Legacy Institute, which is co-chaired by Chris Nowinski, who played college football at Harvard and wrestled professionally for WWE (and whose wrestling career ended due to a concussion), studies the degenerative neurological condition these football players have experienced, which is called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Through the study, Nowinski says his group will get an idea of the risk factors, how the disease progresses, the symptoms and potential treatments. He is also calling for change in the professional wrestling business:

"The idea of going off the top of the cage into the ring may actually be as stupid as it looks," Nowinski says. "You cannot slow down the trauma to your brain. Your brain absorbs a ton of trauma. Even if it's not concust, it's a high level of trauma that didn't used to exist in the wrestling industry."

Nowinski calls today's WWE "an extremely unsafe workplace."

"Everybody who got black lung going into the mines and died knew they were going into the mines," he says, "but they didn't know the full consequences. The only way to get real change is for the McMahons to get out of the business or for the federal government to come in and declare it an unsafe workplace."

Retired KC Chief Turley Donating Brain to Research

A month ago, three NFL players became the first active players to donate their brains and spinal cord tissue to Boston University's Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy, a collaboration of the Sports Legacy Institute and BU's medical school to study the effects of repeated concussions.

Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu and Arizona Cardinals receiver Sean Morey all promised their brains and spinal cord tissue to the center after they die.

The Associated Press reported in mid-September that the center counted 150 former athletes (including 40 retired NFL players) as donors. One future donor is former Kansas City Chief Kyle Turley, who retired after the 2007 NFL season.

Turley tells The Pitch that he's donating his brain because there hasn't been enough study on the effects of traumatic brain injuries, which he says he experienced in his 10 years of professional football...More?

Opposite Ends Of The Scale: John Cena and Shelton Benjamin

More Hunter Hate; Shawn Too?

Among some locker room circles, both Triple H and Shawn Michaels are two of the least popular wrestlers these days. Even those who appear on SmackDown and have minimal exposure to them feel as though they are abusing their power and standing in the way of WWE elevating new stars.

The overwhelming sentiment among those in the company is that Raw's "no man's land" in the sense there are no full-fledged pushes to be had as a result of the strong influence of Hunter and Michaels, as well as Randy Orton and John Cena. Many feel if even one of these main event performers dislikes you enough to badmouth you to management, you won't be getting a push.

ECW Results: Decisive Disloyalty

Earlier in the evening, William Regal and Zack Ryder had a heated confrontation backstage, leading the WWE Universe to wonder if these two Superstars would be on the same page going into tonight’s main event.

Despite The British Brawler demand that Ryder follow his instructions during their tag team match against ECW Champion Christian & Yoshi Tatsu, his cocky partner was not about to yield to the former ECW interim General Manager. After the two began to quarrel in the corner, Ryder refused the tag from Regal and attacked his partner, allowing Captain Charisma to dial up the Killswitch and pin the self-centered Blackpool, England-native for the victory.
