Raw Results: Hart & Heartbreaker

The conclusion of the WWE Title Match at Survivor Series 1997 between then-champion Bret “Hit Man” Hart and Shawn Michaels remains one of the most controversial episodes in WWE history. Hart was forced to relinquish his title to HBK after the referee called for a quick bell while Michaels had his opponent locked in Hart’s signature submission hold, The Sharpshooter, despite the fact that Hart never submitted.

The incident, known as the “Montreal Screwjob,” left a bitter taste in Hart’s mouth, including a palpable disdain for both Michaels and the man who orchestrated his defeat, Mr. McMahon.

While revenge has always nourished motivation, time continues to mend old wounds, which seemed to be the case when Hart addressed the audience at the top of Raw. Not only did the former five-time WWE Champion and WWE Hall of Famer thank the WWE Universe for their support, he also called out Michaels in an effort to bury the hatchet.

Michaels obliged, and the two talked openly about their feelings from that night and beyond. The men concluded their conversation with a handshake and, eventually, a heartfelt embrace. Full results.

Dana White Comments on Competing with WWE

"And I respect this guy. I like Vince McMahon. I’ve had breakfast with him. He’s a good guy, but he is a (expletive) animal. I’m not trying to beat him on Monday night. I don’t think we would beat them. Those guys pull killer ratings. It’s been like the highest rated show on television forever. We’re just putting a fight on Monday night because Spike wants us to. I think we’re two totally different, pro wrestling is totally different than the UFC and mixed martial arts"...More?

Even McMahon's Foes Admit WWE is Good for Connecticut

WWE RAW Live and Nearly DVR-Proof 52 Weeks a Year

“It’s about the only 52-week, live, DVR-proof show going,” said Chris McCumber, EVP of marketing at USA Network. The “Raw” show is new every week of the year, and because it is live with sports elements, Mr. McCumber suggested, it is less likely to be recorded on a digital video recorder and played back later — with the commercials skipped.

He said that “Raw” was up 17 percent in total viewers on USA over the last year.

Lance Storm Commentary - "I’m very excited to see the show Monday"

One last thing I want to cover before wrapping this up is the return of Bret Hart to Monday Night RAW. I’m very excited to see the show Monday, because Bret was a big part of why I got into wrestling so I’m really looking forward to his return. I have no expectations going in, I just hope the fans show him the respect he so greatly deserves, and I believe they will. Before WWE announced his return I was planning to flip back and forth and watch both RAW and Impact but now I will watch RAW in its entirety. I will have to either DVR Impact or just watch it at its regular time on Thursday.

For my official rating prediction for January 4th:
RAW (3.6 – 3.8)
Impact (0.6 – 0.8)

TNA iMPACT! - Lost Before the Start

Mark Madden picks Raw over iMPACT!:

Not to be negative (ahem), but TNA’s Monday launch looks dead in the water for reasons that should be fairly obvious.

WWE has Bret Hart. One of the promotion’s legendary figures returns. Hart has been absent for over 12 years. He left under the worst possible terms. What will it be like when Vince McMahon and Hart face off for the first time since the Montreal Screwjob? THIS IS PERSONAL, KING!

OK, I’m sold. As for TNA…

Hogan will be there. That’s the extent of TNA’s promotion for the re-ignition of the Monday night wars.

I’m watching WWE...More?

WWE Superstars Results: Ring in the New Year

In the main event of “WWE Superstars,” MVP joined with Chris Masters to take on their Raw brandmates, Jack Swagger & Carlito. Though The Ballin’ Superstar & The Masterpiece were fortunate enough to have the lovely Eve cheering them on from ringside, her support wasn’t enough to spur them onto victory.
