John Cena: "I'll Balance Pro Wrestling and Movies"

Despite his growing film career in previous starring roles in "The Marine" and "12 Rounds," Cena said in an interview for CBSNews.com's Ken Lombardi that he's not giving up on the world of professional wrestling anytime soon.

"I'm not going anyplace. I've filmed three movies now with not sacrificing my WWE schedule at all. I have a system that makes it work," Cena revealed...More?

WWE Superstars Results: Business is "Boom"-ing

For a few weeks, it looked as though Chavo Guerrero may have turned things around. The self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” was riding a wave of success after scoring consecutive victories over Chris Masters and JTG on “WWE Superstars,” but all things must pass. For Guerrero, that happened tonight as the explosive Kofi Kingston dropped the boom on the cagey veteran. You’ll get ’em next time, Chavo. Full results.

How Wrestling is Taking Over the Movies

This summer, the drip-drip of US wrestling's incursions into mainstream cinema under the aegis of World Wrestling Entertainment's in-house movie production arm, WWE Studios, has shown its first real signs of becoming a surge. In August, former WWE wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's ascent into legitimate crossover status resumed with the US release of The Other Guys, a Will Ferrell comedy in which Johnson co-stars. And, this month, current ace face John Cena's new film, the WWE-produced Legendary, is also released. As Cena says: "WWE studios has got five movies in the can right now and every one of them has come out ahead of expectations. We have all the channels in place and I think it's going to be a good time for us." At a time when many studios are facing financial pruning, a new and aggressively resourced presence is stalking the multiplex, rippling its perma-tanned pectorals. Wrestling wants in.

WWE has stealthily pursued its move into cinema ever since the foundation of its Los Angeles-based production arm in 2002. "We saw this as a broadening and a natural extension of the entertainment business we're already in," says Andrew Whittaker, WWE executive vice-president. "It is natural for WWE superstars who are already well known in 149 countries to extend their brand status around the world. Nine films planned for release gives you as clear an indication as you need of our ambition."...More?

Strasburg is the Cal Ripken of Washington

The Washington Nationals say Rob Dibble will no longer work as a TV analyst for the team's games, a split that comes after the former reliever made comments critical of rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg.

Dibble lashed out at Strasburg last week for not pitching through pain. Dibble said on Sirius XM Radio that ''You can't have the cavalry come in and save your butt every time you feel a little stiff shoulder, sore elbow.''

Strasburg has since been diagnosed with a torn elbow ligament and will have surgery Friday. He will be sidelined 12 to 18 months.

Two days after making those comments, Dibble was absent from the broadcast both on MASN, the network that televises the games. At the time, MASN said Dibble had requested "a few days off."

Eric Bischoff on TNA's "Ill-Conceived" Move to Monday Nights, Bret Hart's Comments

Bret Hart's comments about Vince McMahon "stomping out" TNA from Monday nights, the impact "The Hitman" may have had in making that a reality, & what the final outcome would have been for TNA on Monday nights had Bret Hart never come back to the WWE:

"I like Bret so much so it's hard for me to comment about things like this. Bret Hart is a little pre-occupied with the legacy of Bret Hart. Not going to deny it, the move to Monday night was a mistake. It is what it is. It was ill-conceived, it was bad timing, it was a risk, and it was a risk that didn't pan out. I've taken plenty of risks that didn't work out, and I've taken some risks that have. Vince McMahon has taken some risks that worked and taken plenty of risks that hasn't. The move to Monday night was a miss, and I'll take as much responsibility for that as anybody else. I don't think any of it had anything to do with Bret Hart. I think if Bret Hart would have never come back to WWE, the outcome of our Monday night effort would have been exactly the same."

Update on Lucha Libre USA Promotion

The August 28th edition of Lucha Libre USA scored a 0.05 rating and 45,000 viewers. The show aired on a Saturday as opposed to the usual Friday night time slot. Ratings for the series were what MTV expected them to be.

Lucha Libre USA managing director Steve Ship has confirmed that the current run of the show is finished on MTV2. The plan was always to do seasons of the show, like other MTV properties, and the 52-week agreement that they signed was not for 52 straight weeks.

The September 9th event in Corpus Christi, Texas at Whataburger Field as well as other events scheduled will take place as planed. Content will be filmed at these events and used for the LLUSA website and MTV2's website. The footage filmed in Charlotte over the weekend will be used as online content.

For the next season of the show, they will tape from one location, ala TNA Impact, but that location has not been announced yet.

Isis joins the ranks of Christina Crawford (Alicia Fox’s sister) and Ricki Vaughn as the newest female developmental signings.

Maybe God Could Pick Another Form of Entertainment

Eddie, Test, Umaga, Lance, Trent Acid, Chris Kanyon, Luna Vachon, J.C. Bailey. There are others and there will be more. I am absolutely addicted to this business. I don't wrestle and don't want to. I'm not a promoter and don't want to be. I don't book matches and am not qualified to do so. I'm just a fan. I have been to local indy shows with a few hundred people and to sold out WWE shows at the Verizon Center. Big, small, CHIKARA, ROH, Puroresu, Lucha Libre, I watch it all. And even though it isn't politically correct, I'm a die-hard Terra Ryzin/Jean-Paul Levesque/Hunter Hearst Helmsley/Triple H fan. (yeah that long) Just a small request to the Ultimate Booker upstairs, please stop taking our young wrestlers that are just getting started. Please stop taking our veterans that have left the spotlight and joined us "regular" people. There are other forms of entertainment. Not that I want to see actors or musicians die, but things are definetly one-sided. I'm just very sad today...

Lucha Libre USA: Masked Warriors Recap 08/28/10

Vince McMahon Comments on John Cena's Rise to the Top

“You have to start with the quality of the human being,” McMahon told the Herald. “John is an extraordinary human being; he’s honest, he’s loyal.

“He’s full of himself, too,” McMahon added, laughing. “But he’s like a throwback to the type of individual it’s difficult find these days, someone with old-fashioned values. In addition to that, he’s a Neanderthal when it comes to strength.”

Then McMahon held a meeting with his performers, saying he was looking for someone who was ready to reach for the brass ring.

“Step on people on the way over if you have to,” he recalled saying. “Apologize later. I’m looking for someone with courage that wants to break out and be ballsy enough to take on the responsibility of being the top guy. “At the end of the meeting, someone came over and said, ‘I’m your man,’ and that was John.”...More?
