WWE-Mattel Updates
Representatives from Mattel appeared at the Ringsidefest in New York City this week to take questions from fans in attendance. Below are some highlights:
* Sin Cara’s first figure will be released in April or May of next year. Other new figures debuting in the near future include Jinder Mahal, The Bella Twins, Jerry Lawler and CM Punk with a cloth version of his Best in the World t-shirt.
* Mattel reps have spoke with Zack Ryder about including his Internet Title on a future Ryder action figure. In regards to a replica Internet Title, Mattel said they would have to get Ryder’s permission first.
* New versions of the Diva figures are also being worked on, including Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly.
* As noted before, Jim Ross is working with Mattel on a new project but it’s too early for details. Ross will be helping them promote a new product.
* There will be a Miss Elizabeth figure available towards the end of this year online and if her figure sells well, they’re looking at doing one for Sherri Martel and others. Mattel had a good relationship with Randy Savage before he passed so his estate will allow them to produce new figures in the future.
* Mattel can’t make figures that break bones, bleed or bruise due to WWE’s PG content.
* Mattel is doing a series of figures with Toys R Us where each figure in a set comes with a piece and when you buy all the figures, the pieces assemble to make a Michael Cole figure. Mattel figured people would want a Cole figure but would not buy him.
* Mattel doesn’t have the rights to do Brock Lesnar figures as those are held by Jakks Pacific right now. They also don’t have rights to Matt Hardy figures and have no plans to do a figure on him.
* There will be no Owen Hart figure because Owen’s widow asked them not to do anything with him.
* They will be doing a Tribute to the Troops set with four Superstars next year through K-Mart that will be sold for charity. A Troops ring will also be available.
* Mattel wanted to do a figure for Steve Austin’s old Ringmaster gimmick but WWE wants the figures to represent their iconic versions, not the older versions right now.

YouTube Set to Announce TV Initiative With 100 Niche Channels; WWE Included
The Google-owned site's partners include BermanBraun, WWE, HSN, Ashton Kutcher and Amy Poehler.
In a low-budget early effort to compete with satellite and cable TV providers, YouTube is set to announce Friday that it has partnered with several entities to roll out television-style channels with professionally produced shows that will strike a sharp contrast to the short videos of crazy cats, skateboard wipeouts and other amateur content that made the site famous.
The online TV channels will be programmed by the likes of BermanBraun, FremantleMedia, Shine Group, The Wall Street Journal, pro skateboarder Tony Hawk and actors Ashton Kutcher and Amy Poehler.
Insiders said the Google-owned property has shelled out some $150 million in advances for the creation of about 100 channels, with a maximum $5 million going to any single channel. Financial details were sketchy on Friday, though The Wall Street Journal reported that deals call for YouTube recouping its advances then giving as much as 55 percent of the ad revenue to the content creators.

Cody Rhodes Comments on his Face Mask
"It's funny because things in sports entertainment get misconstrued. What we do is entertainment, but what happened with me was a little bit more than that. My nose was legitimately broken, my septum was horribly deviated, but it was the most lucky break I guess I ever had. I'm definitely not afraid to take it off and I've enjoyed the few times I've gotten away with taking it off and I can see it being around for a while, but not so much a major fixture of myself. I'm trying to make it like Triple H; he's got his sledgehammer and I've got my mask."

Rumor Mill - WWE Changing Survivor Series Plan
WWE has changed plans with The Rock and John Cena at Survivor Series as they originally had a traditional Survivor Series match planned with the two on the same team. That was changed to The Rock and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth in part because officials felt that putting Rock and Cena in a traditional 5-on-5 match would take too much attention off them going into their WrestleMania 28 match.

Sean Waltman Says John Morrison Is In The Doghouse For What He Did To Trish Stratus
While watching John Morrison suffer another loss on the Raw SuperShow Monday, former WWE talent Sean Waltman attributed The Prince of Parkour’s recent struggles to his dismissive treatment of revered women’s wrestler Trish Stratus at WrestleMania XXVII.
Waltman wrote on Twitter, “Eventually they will take Morrison out of the dog house. He brought it on himself with the way he treated Trish Stratus at WM.”
In response to a remark that Morrison’s days with the sports-entertainment league are coming to an end, he wrote, “If he was smart he’d ride out the storm. HHH was in the doghouse forever & now look.”
While promoting the release of Ball Enforcers in April, Stratus confirmed reports that Morrison behaved in disregard to her during their post-match celebration at WrestleMania XXVII. She also stated that he passed over suggestions she had for the bout.

It didn't take long for former WWE broadcaster Todd Grisham to stir up controversy at his new ESPN job. Grisham referenced the "trail of tears" while discussing the Oklahoma Sooners loss to Texas Tech in college football over the weekend.
Some viewers were offended because the phrase historically refers to American Cherokees being forcibly removed from their land. "The historical reference didn't even cross my mind," Grisham wrote on his Twitter page apology. You can read more at USAToday.com.

Wrestling Legend Scott Hall's Tragic Twist After Documentary's Happy Ending
WWE legend Scott Hall's emotional reunion with his estranged son at the end of ESPN's documentary about the wrestler was short-lived -- sources tell TMZ, Scott's drug problems have once again forced the two apart.
In case you missed it, ESPN aired a heartfelt documentary about Scott Hall last night -- chronicling the wrestler's drug-fueled fall from grace -- in which Scott and his son Cody poignantly reunited after not speaking for years.
The documentary ended on a promising note -- with the father-son duo working together to launch Cody's wrestling career.
But Scott's ex-wife Dana tells TMZ, the reunion in May barely lasted a month -- and once again, the two are no longer on speaking terms.
We're told Cody gave up on his dad due to "constant verbal abuse from Scott while he was binging" -- and he soon moved back home with his mom.
Dana tells us, Cody simply felt it was "too hard seeing his dad in that kind of state." We're told Cody has no current plans to continue wrestling. Scott's rep had no comment.

Spike TV officials have reportedly lost a lot of faith in Dixie Carter after she pushed them on the way they were doing the angle to get The Main Event Mafia back together last year. TNA spent months of building the angle with Dixie telling Spike that she had Kevin Nash and Booker T locked in. Booker and Nash both ended up in WWE, which led to no Main Event Mafia and the Fortune babyface turn on Immortal, ending up with a feud that went nowhere for the most part.

E:60 The Wrestler: Scott Hall
In his prime, Scott Hall was a mountain of a man - 6-foot-7, 290 pounds of solidly sculptured muscle, appearing as close as invincible as they come. As Razor Ramon, he was one of professional wrestling's biggest names and most villainous villains, busting chairs with the likes of Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans in sold-out arenas. And he loved the life that came with it: the parties, the women, the celebrity. But the high life soon started to slip away, and Hall has been desperately doing whatever he can since to hold on ever since. Hall's slide seems to know no bottom - from his deteriorating physical and mental condition, to his ongoing battle with alcohol and substance abuse that has crippled his family life and resulted in pathetic public appearances in school gyms. But he's hanging on, somehow. Now his only son, Cody, wants to follow in his father's tortured bootsteps. E:60 chronicles the heartbreaking story of a man who is a shadow of his former self and desperate for one last taste of the glory days. Click here.

Update on the WWE Network
WWE issued a survey asking fans if they would be willing to change their cable providers in order to get the new WWE Network.
The survey noted that WWE's eight secondary pay-per-views would be featured on the network while the "big four" wouldn't - Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series. This would be a change of direction from what was originally planned with all pay-per-views on the network.

WWE holds their No Mercy Pay-per-view in Baltimore, Maryland. The show is especially notable for an "I Quit" match between Vince and Stephanie McMahon in which Vince promised to give up ownership of WWE if he lost, and Stephanie agreed to step down as General Manager of Smackdown if she lost. Stephanie lost, and would not appear on WWE programming (in a storyline sense, as she did attend the WWE Hall Of Fame events) until October 3, 2005. It is also interesting to note that the Maryland State Athletic Commission had a rule that prevented male vs. female wrestling matches, and WWE had to pay a fine (which they were prepared to do in advance) in order to have the match. This match also occurred six days prior to her real life marriage to Triple H.

George Napolitano's Picture-Perfect 'Hot Shots and High Spots'
"Hot Shots and High Spots" showcases hundreds of shots taken by George Napolitano, a longtime grappling journalist who began covering matches in 1970. The photos feature not only every major star from the past four decades but behind-the-scenes images such as the late Andre the Giant hoisting four female wrestlers in the air like a human cape and a bleached-blond Paul Levesque long before he became a WWE headliner as Triple H.
"Honestly, what's in that book is a fraction of the stuff that I could have used," Napolitano said in a recent telephone interview. "If I actually had to look at everything I've shot, I'd still be looking and we wouldn't have a book."
Using multiple cameras, Napolitano would take 200 to 250 photos for a regular event and 350-plus for a mega-card. Napolitano would then personally develop those photos and choose which to use for the slew of wrestling publications he was editing and writing. The photography process is a far cry from today when Napolitano uses a digital camera for the events that he shoots and is no longer stationed at ringside...More?

Kevin Nash Explains Why He Lost Promo Duel WIth CM Punk, More
Chad Dukes of 106.7 The Fan DC’s Lavar Arrington Show with Chad Dukes does a wrestling show (The Chad Dukes Wrestling Show) on Friday nights. Last Friday, Dukes conducted an interview with Kevin Nash:
Chad Dukes: They had the whole thing with you where they you were being kind of disrespected by him, and they were blurring the lines between what was a shoot and what was a promo…How much…I know you said you didn’t want to work with a script, but did they give you a rough outline of what you to say? Were you okay with everything that was said back to you? Because you’re a guy that did do the things you said; you established a pay scale, you made it so wrestlers could get paid more than they ever had before. You brought that credibility and I felt there was so me disrespect there. How much of that were you okay with and how much of that was actually a shoot?
Nash: Well the thing was I understood what my job was. Going in, my job wasn’t to bury a baby face and come across more witty than he was or anything else. That wasn’t what I was brought in to do. The old Kevin Nash, would at anyone’s cost, would have gotten over. As you get older, and your best friend is very much in charge of the day to day process, and he looks at you and asks you to do something that’s just kind of like ‘Wow, they’ve really got me hog-tied on this one.”...More?

Stephanie McMahon Comments on Scott Hall’s Troubles and Today’s Superstars
ESPN posted a preview of their E:60 story on Scott Hall airing Wednesday that includes quotes from WWE VP Stephanie McMahon, who says Hall's rehab is the most amount of money they've spent on rehab for any former wrestler. "I just want Scott to get help and to decide for himself that he needs help. It makes me sad. I don't want anybody to pass away prematurely or otherwise really. Scott was an incredibly talented performer, larger than life, charismatic. He's a father, he's a friend. I'm sure he means a lot to a lot of people and it would be a shame for him to pass away," McMahon told ESPN.
She also commented on how WWE takes care of their talents:
“In addition to that substance and abuse program, we also have cardiovascular testing, we do blood checks, we do physicals, we do concussion testing akin to the NFL. We’re really about maintaining the health and well-being of our superstars because without our superstars we don’t have a business.”
“The superstars of today — they’re businessmen. They realize the healthier they maintain their bodies, the better they are going to perform, the more money they’re going to make. They’re more about playing with their iPads and gaming devices than they are about going out and hanging out at the bars.”
Linda McMahon's Appearance In WWE's 'Make-A-Wish' Ad Violated FEC Rules
Linda McMahon's appearance in a World Wrestling Entertainment ad for the Make-a-Wish Foundation during her 2010 run for Senate violated elections law, but the Federal Election Commission is going to let is slide.
The Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee alleged that the WWE -- run by McMahon's husband, Vince -- illegally coordinated corporate in-kind contributions with her campaign.
In a decision made public on Friday, the FEC found that everything besides the Make-a-Wish Foundation ad was on the up-and-up and decided not to do anything about her two-second appearance in the ad as a matter of prosecutorial discretion.
McMahon's brief appearance in the Make-a-Wish ad, where she is shown "greeting a young boy in a wheelchair," was "fleeting," according to the FEC.
The FEC found that a WWE "Fan Appreciation Day" held three days before the election was not in violation of the rules because "there was no specific reference to her name, her opponent's name, or her candidacy."

Rumor Mill - Hogan Lobbied To Have Roode Lose; Issues with AJ Styles
PWInsider is reporting that Bobby Roode was scheduled to win the world title from Kurt Angle.
Hogan lobbied to have Angle go over Roode because he felt that Roode wasn't ready for a run with the title as he doesn't feel the time is right for Roode to be the top guy.
In addition to Hogan's opinions on Roode, there was a lot of a banter as reported on Twitter between Hogan and AJ Styles. According to reports, there was a lot of resentment towards Hogan from the long time company employees as Hogan criticized Styles on Twitter after Styles missed Saturdays fan interaction event due to a death in his family.

Mask vs. Mask: Sin Caras Duel on SmackDown in Mexico City
Both Sin Cara Azul and Sin Cara Negro will put their identity on the line in a Mask vs. Mask Match on Friday Night SmackDown, emanating from the Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City.
Ever since September, when it was revealed that two Sin Caras were competing in WWE, tensions have escalated, including multiple physical confrontations.
Sin Cara Azul earned bragging rights over his twin, defeating Sin Cara Negro in their match at WWE Hell in a Cell, but the match was so closely contested that the question as to who the superior Superstar is still remains unanswered.
After Hell in a Cell, the darker luchador has repeatedly attacked his blue counterpart, leading to this Mask vs. Mask match-up in the Mexican capital.

Jim Ross Returns to Raw in Mexico City, Competes in Tag Team Match
Jim Ross is back! After unceremoniously firing Good Ol’ J.R. last week in his home state of Oklahoma, John Laurinaitis appeared to have had a change of heart.
After an overwhelmingly negative response from the WWE Universe on his Twitter account (@WWERawGM), the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim General Manager of Raw invited Ross to Mexico during WWE’s tour of the country.
At a taping of the Raw SuperShow in Mexico City on Saturday, Laurinaitis invited Ross to once again be a part of Raw.
But instead of saddling up at the announce desk, J.R. was put in a tag team match. The WWE Hall of Famer teamed with John Cena to take on WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio and his partner – and Ross nemesis – Michael Cole.

TNA to Launch New International Brand
TNA hired Dave Lagana not to work on the existing Impact Wrestling series, but to take part in a brand new project the company will be launching later this year in India. The new project will be a weekly series for the Indian market that will not be utilizing the TNA brand name, PWInsider.com has exclusively learned.
Sources indicate that the project, which has been spearheaded by Jeff Jarrett, will be taping for a week in December with an additional week of tapings also scheduled for January 2012.
The project will be a completely separate entity from TNA - both in terms of the creative team and the roster of talents. Joining Lagana and Jarrett on the creative end of things will be Dutch Mantel.
Former TNA referee Rudy Charles has also been very involved in the development of the project's roster. The word we are getting is that they have cultivated a potential roster of former WWE/TNA/WCW/ECW types as well as independent talents that have not had major television exposure. I do not know if any talents have been signed as of this writing.
Sonjay Dutt, who was in India last week with BG James to scout talent, will also be a major part of the project. The project had well over 100 potential Indian talents try out and of those, ten were selected and will be brought to the United States to train as pro wrestlers and be part of the new series. Obviously, James will not be involved as he has taken a position as a WWE Producer on a probationary basis.
The new series will air in India on The Colors Network (known here in the United States as Aapka Colors in the U.S), a Viacom-owned network that launched in 2008. Endemol, a major international television production and distribution company, is also involved with the project.
One would think the series would find its way to the United States and other markets as well in some fashion, but nothing is confirmed in that regard. Colors is, however, carried on a number of satellite systems, including the Dish Network.

Dave Lagana Joins TNA As Director Of Creative Writing
Either TNA has taken some smart pills, or they unknowningly stumbled upon a gold mine in the creative staff. Dave Lagana, former member of the WWE Creative team, and owner of the site IWantWrestling.com, has joined TNA as the Director of Creative Writing. This is the second signing that TNA has recently done, the first one being the acquisition of former WWE writer Bruce Prichard.
Lagana will leave his current standing in Ring of Honor Wrestling in order to undertake his new endeavor. The following is from his blog, explaining his new job.
I leave Ring of Honor Wrestling to tackle new challenges. I’ve accepted a position as Director of Creative Writing with TNA Wrestling. My duties will be to focus solely on the development of new wrestling shows beyond the Impact Wrestling show. Hulk Hogan Comments on Robert Roode, Jeff Hardy, & More
“Nah, he’s (Robert Roode)not ready. He’s not the next guy. Ya’ know, they might think he is. Dixie Carter might think he is. The whole world might think he is. He’s not the next guy. If I had to bet money on anybody and really be serious about betting money on anybody, I’d say Jeff Hardy is the next guy if he keeps his act together. Um, that’s what you gotta to have, man. This is much more than being a wrestler, this is crossing barriers, medias, ya’ know media barriers, and, and entertainment barriers of all kind. Getting your character down verbally has 90% to do with getting over. I just have a very strong feeling Kurt Angle’s going to clean his clock performance wise, and carry the match, and basically remains the champion. He’s training for the Olympics. He’s had some up and down moments, and I think this is not gonna be a down moment for Kurt Angle, so I’m betting that farm on him."...More?
