An ABC News insider confirms to TVNewser that 20/20 is "working on a piece" related to one of Dateline's "To Catch A Predator" stories. According to the Dallas Morning News "a film crew cornered Murphy, [TX] Police Chief Billy Myrick last week for an interview in the City Hall parking lot." Myrick is at the center of a controversy involving the popular NBC News series.
An Esquire story, on newstands now, explains what happened in the Dallas suburb, which culminated with the suicide of a former prosecutor.
In addition to the media scrutiny, Dateline is the target of a lawsuit filed by the dead prosecutor's sister. Dateline's executive producer, David Corvo, told the Morning News that criticisms of the show are dwarfed by its accolades. "Host Chris Hansen "'could make a living just going to children and parent safety groups to receive all the awards he's been given or offered,' Corvo said."
