WWE has offered a five-year contract to Rey Mysterio and a 10-year contract to Randy Orton. However, a source close to the situation noted that the key to the deals is how the contracts are structured. The WWE contracts are one-sided in the sense that they rarely provide outs for the wrestlers, yet are filled with out clauses that would let the company get out of the deal.
For instance, many contracts include clauses that let the company break the deals with just 90 days notice. A wrestler may have a three-year deal with WWE, but the company could theoretically break the deal at any time by exercising their 90-day clause option. Some of the top wrestlers have enough leverage to broker better deals, but the company still protects themselves with out clauses for various infractions or violations.
