Pro wrestling comic headed to the big screen

We’ve long known that wrestling and comic books share a lot of common ground — they’re both overly dramatic, feature bulbous men and women in spandex, there’s plenty of fighting, and their fans are … well, kinda nuts.

So the news today that Death Ray Films and Maya Entertainment will be bringing the supernatural wrestling epic “El Zombo Fantasma” — based on the three-issue miniseries by David Wilkins, Kevin Munroe and Dark Horse Comics — to life as a feature film is pretty much a no-brainer. Monroe will get a shot to write and direct the project, and also co-produce the film along with Wilkins, Chris Patton and Robert Sanchez.
