Being named number one in the “500,” particularly after being voted Wrestler of the Year by PWI readers for the first time just months earlier, strikes a sentimental chord with the man whose involvement with the sport goes back a lot farther than the 17 years he’s been a paid professional.
“It's not every day you get honored like that from the magazine you grew up reading with a flashlight when you were supposed to be going to sleep,” he said. “It’s been a particularly rough last few months for me, both professionally and personally. So all of this is a welcome bit of good news.
“Sometimes in this business you end up dealing with things that are bigger than wins or championships. But make no mistake about it: I got into this sport to be the very best. And outranking every other name in the game proves I accomplished that.”

Any which way you figure it, Triple-H is the very best wrestler in the sport,” Ric Flair said of his longtime friend, partner, and sometimes opponent, who inducted the “Nature Boy” into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008. “I didn’t think anybody would ever do it, but it seems inevitable that he’ll surpass my 16 world titles before too long.
