Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon resigned from her position on the Connecticut Board of Education today, citing a conflict between her BOE position and her Senate campaign in the state.
A new legal opinion from the BOE's oversight board opinion imposed stricter rules on "political activity" a board member can engage in.
"As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, I frequently support, attend, and speak at political events that include fundraising activities," McMahon said in a statement to Connecticut governor Jodi M. Rell. "Although the opinion does not preclude a board member from running for public office, it does disallow them from engaging in many of the activities that are necessary to be a successful candidate."
McMahon was elected to the BOE last year while still WWE CEO after a drawn-out process where her candidacy was questioned in relation to her WWE background.
