Ric Flair not being able to return to WWE is a "temporary situation," according to long-time pro wrestling columnist Mike Mooneyham, who is a friend of Flair's and has covered his career over several decades.
"I think at some point, Ric will re-join WWE," Mooneyham said exclusively on Wednesday's PWTorch Livecast radio show. "I think Ric will be open to any kind of overture from WWE. That's really been his home for many years now. He's never burned any bridges in WWE and I think they would be happy to have him back."
Mooneyham confirmed that Vince McMahon wants to wait out ongoing litigation with TNA before bringing Flair back into the fold.
"I think that lawsuit going on between WWE and TNA probably has something to do with Ric not being there right now," Mooneyham told Pat McNeill on the Livecast. "Even though, to the best of my knowledge, I don't think he's really part of that lawsuit, but knowing Vince, I think he's going to play it safe and wait until everything is settled before he makes an overture to Ric."
As for a potential return to TNA down the road, Mooneyham classified it as highly unlikely.
"I don't think he's ever going back to TNA," Mooneyham said. "That relationship didn't end on the best of terms."
