WWE's Non-Wrestling PPV Tonight

WWE is venturing into non-wrestling Pay-Per-View on tonight when the company presents the Rolling Stones's "One More Shot" live concert. The Stones will be joined by Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, and the Black Keys for live performances. As far as WWE talent involvement goes tonight, some of the WWE Divas will be there.

The event kicks off at 8:00 p.m. EST with a one-hour pre-show on E!, which will host a red-carpet event outside the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The live concert then begins at 9:00 p.m. EST. WWE has partnered with Yahoo! to offer an online PPV stream for $39.95 to go along with traditional PPV distribution through cable and satellite providers. WWE hired NeuLine to handle the online stream, and NeuLine will use its platform already in-play for the NFL, NBA, and UFC, according to Billboard's coverage of the event.

For WWE, the goal is to add revenue to their stagnant PPV category. Last year, WWE emphasized wanting to use their existing production team and production infrastructure to produce more non-PPV events. In 2012, WWE dropped one wrestling PPV in October and is replacing it with Saturday night's non-wrestling event. It remains to be seen whether the business venture is successful. If it is successful, it could then lead to WWE producing more non-wrestling PPV events.
