Rumor Mill - Why WWE is Spending More on Creative


During WWE's quarterly conference call with investors last week, WWE management noted that the company plans to spend more money on building up the Creative department in 2013.

PWTorch has confirmed that the added expenses are to (a) hire more writers to handle WWE's new TV shows and third hour of Raw (b) establish a designated digital media writing crew to handle new content as part of WWE's social media push, and (c) add writing staff for the eventual WWE Network.

WWE executive Stephanie McMahon noted during a presentation at the South by Southwest conference on Saturday that WWE's writing staff is designed to be flexible to handle whatever needs arise in a live TV environment. So, even though WWE will create a designated digital media writing division, writers in that department could take on other assignments.

Because WWE's big focal point right now is digital media, especially their App, WWE is budgeting more expenses on the Creative side to help write a lot more content for TV and online distribution.
