Rumor Mill - Backstage TNA Reaction to the 3/8 iMPACT! Rating

The backstage reaction to the low 1.0 rating that the 3/8 edition of Impact brought in was met with a certain amount of panic amongst the higher ups in the company.

Before the rating came in, everyone in management, including Dixie Carter, Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan, Vince Russo, Ed Ferrara and Mike Tenay were walking around as if this was 1997 all over again, and the wars were in full effect. But when the rating finally came in, everyone was dejected, and virtually stunned. Dixie tried her best to put on a game face, but she was clearly reeling from the news.

Additionally, Mick Foley was trying to sell it to the talent as a great effort that will get noticed, but the crew all knew there's very little positive that could come out of this rating.

Plus, there is enormous second guessing running through the locker room on the desperate message it sends to use Jeff Hardy. Although Jeff is very popular with all the talent, a lot of people are worried that if Jeff is convicted on even one federal felony drug charge, then TNA will have some major damage control to do. Being so far behind in ratings, no measurable increase in PPV buys yet, and house shows doing ok but not in middle sized arenas yet, there is a lot of concern that Dixie talks a great game but doesn't have what it takes to compete with Vince McMahon.

Grand Jury Indicts Pro Wrestler Jeff Hardy on Drug Charges

A Moore County grand jury indicted professional wrestler Jeff Hardy this week on drug charges stemming from a search on his Cameron home last September by law enforcement agents.

Hardy’s December probable cause hearing was delayed until Jan. 27, but prosecutors moved forward with the indictments, meaning the cases will be placed on the Moore County Superior Court docket. Hardy was arrested in September after a search of his home revealed Vicodin pills, Soma prescription pills, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and 555 milliliters of anabolic steroids.

G4's X-Play did an interview wit Matt Hardy where he makes a slight reference to Triple H. He was asked what kind of story he's going to create in the new story creator feature. He said that he'd have his character marry the boss' daughter so he could have full control of the show, and make it the best show possible.

Court Date for Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy's first court hearing stemming from his September 11th arrest for drug trafficking will take place on Wednesday morning, September 30th. It is believed that the drug trafficking charges brought against Hardy are a result of the sheer quantity of drugs found at his home. Should Hardy be able to provide a legitimate prescription for some or all the painkillers found, those charges could be reduced or dropped entirely.

The day of his arrest, Hardy promised to make a statement regarding the situation, but since then his comments have been limited to thanking his fans for their support on Twitter.

The Ring Post 20

From Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun:

This is my ranking of the top 20 wrestlers over the past year, using the same criteria that Pro Wrestling Illustrated uses for its list: titles won, major feuds, won-loss records, quality of opponents, prominence within their individual promotion, activity and overall ability.

For this list, I treated pro wrestling as if it were an actual competition and not scripted entertainment. Therefore, I did not take into account attributes such as charisma, promo skills and whether someone is or isn’t a “great worker.” I also did not factor in backstage politics, who is married to the boss’ daughter, et cetera.

Unlike the PWI 500, I did not consider wrestlers from Japanese or Mexican promotions. My list is composed entirely of WWE and TNA wrestlers. As talented as some of the Ring of Honor guys are, the fact is that ROH is a distant No. 3 in terms of prominence.

1. TRIPLE H
2. JOHN CENA
3. EDGE
4. RANDY ORTON
5. STING
6. JEFF HARDY
7. CHRIS JERICHO
8. THE UNDERTAKER
9. SAMOA JOE
10. KURT ANGLE

SmackDown Results: Extreme Exodus

Following his SummerSlam triumph, a gloating CM Punk returned to SmackDown as the "only Straightedge Champion in WWE History". When The Charismatic Enigma interrupted his celebration, promising to end Punk’s reign in their steel cage rematch, Punk proposed the loser be thrown out of WWE. As the shocked WWE Universe stood witness, Hardy accepted the huge gamble. SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long arrived to set the stipulation in stone.

Later that night, after years of incredible feats of reckless abandon, fate finally caught up with Jeff Hardy in a moment of tragic irony. After blocking the high-flying specialist’s climb to victory, the World Heavyweight Champion superplexed him from high atop of the cage. Hardy battled back heroically, trying to prevent his adversary from getting over the cage with every fiber of his being. But a thumb to the eye by Punk sealed his fate, allowing The Straightedge Superstar to retain his title while simultaneously vanquishing the amazing Jeff Hardy from the WWE ring. After Hardy delivered a heartfelt goodbye to the WWE Universe, the ruthless Punk added insult to injury, attacking the departing Superstar from behind with the World title. Full results.

Heyman: WWE's Punk Move Worked

The former Smackdown head writer has sided with his previous employers, despite admitting that Taker launching an unprovoked attacked on the villainous new champion "violates every principle of 'Booking 101' ever taught".

"There were a lot of people that were really upset with WWE over this storyline twist. Jeff Hardy had just put on a spectacular performance with CM Punk in a TLC Match as the main event of SummerSlam, and by having Undertaker appear out of nowhere just made everyone lose focus on the brilliant performance Hardy had delivered. But that's the entire point behind Vince McMahon's decision to go in this direction. Jeff is leaving WWE, and every moment after that main event a potential paying customer is thinking of Jeff is a moment that customer is not thinking of spending money on WWE and its shows. By placing the emphasis on The Undertaker coming after Punk, WWE ensured itself a huge attraction in the Smackdown world title picture."...More?

SmackDown Results: Hardys Ride Again

The night’s main event featured the reunited Hardy brothers, who proved they are once again a force to be reckoned with in WWE. A fired-up Matt Hardy took care of business by dropping No. 1 contender CM Punk with a Twist of Fate to get the pinfall for his team. Full results.
