Former Motorhead Guitarist Michael 'Wurzel' Burston Has Died

Motörhead guitarist Michael ‘Würzel’ Burston has died at the age of 61, according to the Guardian. Würzel passed away yesterday after suffering from heart disease.

A former army corporal, the guitarist joined the Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilminster-fronted Motörhead in 1984 and rapidly established himself as a fan favorite thanks to his larger-than-life personality and devotion to the metal cause. “I’m not sure why we sound like we do,” Würzel told the Boston Herald in 1991. “Maybe it’s because I hate my guitar and play it accordingly. But there’s always something to be said for banging a chord that hits you in the back of the head.

Würzel played on a string of Motörhead albums, including 1986′s Orgasmatron and 1991′s 1916, before leaving in 1996. He was on nine Motörhead albums from 1984’s No Remorse to 1995’s Sacrifice. The guitarist had recently formed a new band, Leader of Down.

Triple H Recalls The Beginning Of His Friendship With Motötorhead's Lemmy

As far as entrance themes go, Triple H has one of the best. His tune, "The Game," is one of the more savage entries on the WWE playlist, which is owed to the fact that Motörhead recorded the track for him. Over the course of his career, Triple H (whose real name is Paul Levesque) has become friends with Motöorhead frontman and rock legend Lemmy Kilmister (Triple H appeared on a Motörhead album back in 2002 and often introduces the band in concert). After recording "The Game," Lemmy was also drafted into recording two more songs for Triple H (the theme song for his faction Evolution and "King of Kings," a new twist on Triple H's character). What began as a professional relationship turned into a personal one.

Triple H — who just made his return to WWE's weekly "Raw" show (he'll face the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII on Sunday, April 3) and currently stars in "The Chaperone" (which hits DVD and Blu-Ray next week) — says he is taking more and more steps away from the ring for the sake of handling more behind-the-scenes operations at WWE, but he also said that Lemmy will never hang up the spurs. "Lemmy will never stop," he said. "That guy hates being home."

Triple H Comments on his Entrance Music and Motorhead

In a new exclusive interview for the fantastic “Lemmy” DVD – a tribute to his great pal and rock legend – Trip shows us all why he should be the ambassador to the world for WWE. He is witty, engaging and honest. It’s a wonder the fans don’t hear more from him, family duties aside.

Trip’s entrance music is performed by Motörhead – and is arguably the most iconic in the business, Taker excluded because his dirge isn’t a “song”.

Trip tells how it came about, and how it’s helped to form his wrestling identity. He says: “Eight years ago I was at a period of time with my career where I was moving up and had become a major star within the industry and I wanted to have new music that was more fitting to what I was doing.

“I wanted to have a certain vibe when I walked out. I wasn’t the pristine pretty boy. I wasn’t the nice guy any more. I was rough and tumble. My face is all scarred up. When I’m out there I’m kicking ass and hitting them with a sledge- hammer and busting them open. That is my image. I felt like the sound of Motörhead helped to convey that."

“The song The Game was written by our music guy. Lem put his twist on it. The difference between how our studio did it and how Lem had did – it was a totally different song."

“The first time I heard it I was like: “F*** yeah, that’s me right there.'”

Trip tells of how Lemmy hated what WWE had written and took to looking at pictures of The Game busting heads to get his inspiration for the song. Music is vital, Trip admits, and says he identifies with Lemmy’s “you either love us or hate us” attitude, saying:

“It’s that immediate emotional rush. When the first chord of my music hits and Lem says: ‘It’s time to play the game,’ everybody stands up. The sh**’s on, it’s a huge moment. Everybody’s music is that way, but I’m biased – I feel like I have the most powerful music in the business.”

Keep your eyes open. The game is about to change for the better.

From Metallica's facebook page:

So hey, when we were thinking about this whole Guitar Hero thing, we thought we'd see if we could drag in some of our close friends into the game, too. Not only can you play as us, but we're happy to tell you that you can also play as our pal Lemmy from Motorhead! Check out some shots of Lemmy in action!

Lemmy says, "It's great to be in Guitar Hero with all these famous people and I'm really pleased to be in it with Metallica...but James is still taller than me."

Serial Killer - Motorhead featuring Triple H

I am the black dead nightmare,
I bring a light so bright;
To illuminate the path we take;
I show the way all hearts break,
And I will see the old world's back be broken
As we descend into the awful
Howling,
Night.

"Fun for the whole family, isn't it? There's sort of a post-nuclear ambience! That's a spoken word-performance art piece that opens the album, and Triple H speaks it with me..." - Lemmy Kilmister

Triple H introducing Motorhead

Fan report from wrestlingfigs.com:

The lights dimmed and Motorhead's "THE GAME" came on.....and so did Triple H! He was so pumped up, and he gave the band a cool intro. But the kicker is that for the entire show, HHH and Stepanie McMahon were on the side of the stage, and Stephanie was headbanging like crazy to the whole show! It was so funny watching them act like a couple during the show. HHH looked like he kept making sure she was OK, and she would go over and rub his chest and give him a peck. It was different for sure. When the show was done, HHH came back on stage and shook hands and then did the end of the show bow with the band.

Triple H & Stephanie attend Motorhead Concert

WWE Champion Triple H and his wife Stephanie were in attendance at last night's Motorhead Concert at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. The concert started off with Triple H's "The Game" theme music blaring over the PA system with the man himself appearing on stage. Triple H introduced the band and stood on the left side of the stage in clear view of the crowd for the entire 90-minute show. Stephanie was also there with Triple H, headbanging throughout the concert.

At one point, Stephanie jumped on stage to high five drummer Mikkey Dee. During their third song, Lemmy said, "I'd like to dedicate this next song from Motorizer to Triple H and his lovely wife." The song was "Rock Out," the theme for the Unforgiven pay-per-view. After the show was over, Triple H came on stage to take a final bow with the band.
