Video: The WrestleMania contract signing between Triple H and Brock Lesnar ends in chaos

March 11, 2013

Brock Lesnar attacked The New Age Outlaws and addressed Triple H’s challenge

Rumors of The New Age Outlaws’ return, it seems, were somewhat premature. The five-time Tag Team Champions of the Wo(oooooorrrrrr)rld had just taken to the ring to battle the reunited Team Rhodes Scholars when Brock Lesnar struck. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion wasted no time in demolishing the D-Generation X alums with a pair of F-5s and standing tall amid the wreckage before Paul Heyman took the mic to deliver Lesnar’s response to Triple H’s WrestleMania challenge. The long and short of it was that The Anomaly would happily face The King of Kings once again at The Showcase of the Immortals … provided The Game accepts the stipulation of Lesnar and Heyman’s choosing at the contract signing.

Video: Triple H & Brock Lesnar Brawl

Paul Heyman’s fight against Mr. McMahon degenerated into a brawl between Brock Lesnar and Triple H

The WWE Universe was promised a fight when Raw rolled into the Lone Star State, and a fight was what they got. It just wasn’t exactly the one they were expecting.

With Mr. McMahon and Paul Heyman’s much-ballyhooed brawl kicking off the show, things began more or less as expected: The Chairman — still on crutches following hip replacement surgery from a few weeks back — didn’t even bother to shed his suit before coming to the ring and beckoning his longtime nemesis to throw down between the ropes. Heyman responded with his signature bluster, but even compromised by crutches Mr. McMahon simply overpowered the mad scientist. Before The Chairman could strike the deciding blow, however, an equalizer arrived in the form of Brock Lesnar!

Looking for a repeat of the assault that maimed The Chairman last month, Lesnar had Mr. McMahon dead to rights when Triple H stormed the ring in retaliation, coming to his father in law’s defense and pouncing on The Anomaly in a blind fury. Ramming Lesnar into the ring post, Triple H drew blood from the behemoth and narrowly escaped decimation at the hands of a chair strike, eventually driving Brock back from the ring. The King of Kings’ quick thinking undoubtedly saved The Chairman’s skin. Whether that heroism comes at the expense of Triple H’s own safety? Well, that’s a matter for speculation at this point.

Paul Heyman made his exit from World Wrestling Entertainment. Heyman was sent home from a Raw/ECW taping in North Carolina following a meeting with Vince McMahon, one day after the disastrous ECW December to Dismember Pay-per-view. Heyman was removed from the ECW Creative team, while a storyline reason for his departure was posted on WWE.com, stating Vince sent him home because: "The WWE Chairman cited slumping television ratings and a disgruntled talent roster as causes for Mr. Heyman's dismissal." Heyman had been portraying the heel "ECW Representative" on television.

The backstage story was that Vince McMahon was irate about how awful the PPV was and wanted to pin the blame on Heyman for it, despite many feeling that the poor PPV (which ended a half hour early) was the result of what the McMahons (Vince and Stephanie) booked for the show. Heyman was said to be unhappy with the way that the PPV was booked and backstage sources claim he voiced that concern both before the show began and after it. It was obvious that there were issues between Vince McMahon and Heyman because of the how the show played out on PPV, with everyone knowing it was a disaster.

A number of sources stated that a meeting was held around two o'clock with Heyman, Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon-Levesque. Heyman came out of the meeting and seemed like his normal self, with no one realizing what had just taken place. Shortly thereafter, Heyman gathered his things and left the building to go home.

WWE Hall of Fame Discussions Begin

WWE Hall of Fame discussions have started. According to a source, Bruno Sammartino remains at the top of the list. Others that key officials have discussed include Mick Foley, Triple H, The Freebirds, Regis Philbin (in the celebrity wing), Bob Backlund, Larry Zbyszko, Sid Vicious, Earthquake John Tenta and Paul Heyman. The feeling is the timing isn't right for Heyman, since he is penciled in to be a major part of one of the marquee WrestleMania 29 matches and as a heel, it would create an awkward atmosphere.

Vince McMahon has not commented on the suggested entries, but should be deciding who is going in within the next several weeks.

According to a source close to Bruno, he has not closed the door to a possible induction. He apparently would agree to be inducted ONLY if the money is right, which be believes is about respect and to rectify "past financial injustices." Bruno feels that WWE has not been fair with him in the past with royalties related to the marketing of his merchandise and action figures, and that the situation must be addressed before he would consider being inducted.

Bruno is also adamant that any deal that he makes to enter the WWE Hall of Fame is made independent of any financing or distribution deal for the potential theatrical film to be made of his life. He would like for that movie to be made, but is financially "very comfortable" and would not be heartbroken if it is not.

Bruno is said to be open to talking to Triple H at any time, and has always been open to take his calls. The source also noted that Bruno has never told Triple H not to call him and never will.

This Day In Wrestling History - ECW Goes Too Far

Arena recap filed by Dave Scherer of pwinsider.com on October 28, 1995:

On this night, ECW totally dropped the ball.

The singularly most stupid series of events in wrestling history occurred. Raven and Cactus pulled out a chair that had towels affixed to it somehow. These towels were soaked in lighter fluid or some other flammable liquid and they used the branding iron to ignite the whole mess. As the flames rose off of the chair, the sickening feeling in my stomach worsened. Cactus winds up and hits Dreamer with the chair, and he catches on fire. The fans were stunned, and did not even pop. I said into my recorder, “Death must be the next bump.”

Cactus tries to pick up the chair, but it is flaming almost uncontrollably. He somehow picks it up and as he winds up, the towels that are burning are coming loose, which someone should have thought of as it is pretty hard for something that is burning to stay attached to a chair. He throws the chair at Funk, who is now laying on the floor near the ring barricade, and fire goes everywhere.

Funk is literally a man ablaze. As Funk is running around ringside, fans are trying to put him out. The towels are laying on the floor burning and the crowd starts to go nuts. A few people came over with the fire extinguishers and as the shoot the towels, they actually go into the crowd making matters worse. If one person, as I was told was the plan, had suffocated the fire, it would have gone out, instead it was shot across the Arena floor.

I was told that the whole fire gimmick was thought up by Funk and Cactus, and was not known to Paul Heyman beforehand. In any event, the buck stops with Heyman and it is ultimately his responsibility.

All of this was bad enough. People were scared and nervous, and undoubtedly some of the world’s true sick sons of bitches were actually enjoying all of this. And then the stupidest of all things happened. Off went the house lights. The big finale of this was to be an angle where Raven took Dreamer up to the crows nest and hung him up there and “crucified him.” To get him up there and set it up, they needed the lights out. For about 2 minutes.

But for the love of God, at this point in the show, given the fire was going astray, had just been extinguished, and that people were startled to run for, turning off the lights for the purpose of doing a f**king angle is ludicrous and should never have happened. The lights going off caused people to head for the doors, When the lights came back on, there was Raven licking and biting the blood of the crucified Dreamer.

What Paul Heyman was thinking while all of this was going on is a mystery to me, but this was the worst judgment he could have possibly shown. A major mistake was made.

At this point, I went outside and watched the people come out, helping anyone I could. People were coughing from getting sprayed with the fire extinguishers, people were bleeding from getting hurt in the melee (one guy broke his nose and I was told another broke a leg), and some people were actually burned.

Terry Funk and his wife came out and he was taken to the hospital with second degree burns on his right arm, from his bicep to his elbow. He returned later to the hotel in pretty good spirits and was said to be doing well. Before leaving, Funk went ballistic backstage and was throwing chairs, (one of the which that went through the wall) yelling at people, and even knocked over an enormous industrial fan as the guys were running from him. He was upset about now he would miss out on work because, as one witness put it “his arm looked like raw meat.” He had just spent 3 three months applying salve from burns he received in Japan and now the process will start all over again.

Tommy Dreamer also suffered a broken nose as well as burns on his back from during the match. Cactus Jack was distraught backstage, and felt very bad for what had happened.

A lot of fans were saying they were done with ECW. People said they felt that ECW had violated their safety and were pissed off. And, in the interest of fairness, there were a group of people who were chanting “ECW” and the show ended. It was a truly unnerving experience for me that crossed the line.

And people wonder why I hate ECW and don't think much of Paul Heyman...

Rumor Mill - Former WWE Creative Members Suggest "Vince, Stephanie & Triple H Hate Paul Heyman"

During a PWTorch Livecast last Friday, Former WWE Creative Seth Mates & Andy Goldstein "painted an image" of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, as well as Stephanie and Triple H, hating Paul Heyman to which his ideas tend to be overlooked.

The former Creative staff said that Vince did not want to use the idea of CM Punk as ECW Champion back in 2006 but instead opting for a Big Show title run.

However, Vince, Steph & HHH all agree on the idea of Paul Heyman as a "useful TV character".

"The three of them cannot stand Paul Heyman," said Goldstein. "They sit around and they joke about Paul Heyman - about him sweating and his suits are cheap and he showed up in a rented, broken-down limo the first day he signed a contract to make himself look like a big deal, and they make fun of his ideas and they do imitations of him. But, I think all three of them are extremely jealous of his brain."

"Paul doesn't care what anybody thinks of him, but the three of them can't stand Paul," said Goldstein. "But, I will give Vince credit to this - he will do whatever is right for business."

Shawn Michaels on Recovery and Triple H’s Chances Against Brock Lesnar

On Monday’s Raw, Brock Lesnar attacked Shawn Michaels and broke his arm using the Kimura Lock. Earlier today, WWE.com called the WWE Hall of Famer to find out how he’s doing, and what he thinks about his best friend stepping into the ring against Brock Lesnar this Sunday at SummerSlam.

How is HBK's recovery going?
"I'm not happy about what Brock Lesnar did to me, but life goes on. I have kids and a family, and things that have to get done. Thankfully, I’m left-handed and ambidextrous so I’m not slowed very much. The physical work around the ranch is going to take a back seat for a while."

How can Triple H beat Brock?
When asked what Triple H needs to do to overcome Lesnar, HBK offered a strategic approach for his friend.

"Brock is a whole different kind of cat. He’s not the same guy he was 10 years ago. The problem is getting caught in the jaws of the alligator. Eventually, you have to tie up with him," he said.

"Once he gets ahold of you — I don’t care if it’s an arm, leg, ankle or wrist — he now has an ability that I don’t think he had before. He might have had it, but I don’t think he had the wisdom, knowledge and experience at that time to utilize it in the respect that he does now. And that makes him a ton more dangerous. That is going to be something Hunter hasn’t faced before."Triple H

As for what it’s going to take to win at SummerSlam, HBK was brutally honest.

"I think that Hunter has the tools to defeat Brock, but it’s going to be tough. If he attacks him in the right respect, and avoids getting caught in the jaws of the alligator, he has a chance."

"But, if I had the answer to beating him, I wouldn’t be walking around with a broken arm," he said.

What will it be like watching SummerSlam from home?

Certainly, Triple H has his work cut out for him, especially since his best friend won't be in his corner this Sunday. Bothered that he can’t be there for his friend, Michaels explained he's suffering from more than just a broken arm.

"All the nagging injuries that I’ve had over the last 25 years were made a little worse in that thrashing I took in the parking lot [on Raw]. It's more an issue of me needing to heal a lot of stuff,” he said.

How will Heyman factor in?

Although HBK won’t be at SummerSlam, Paul Heyman will.

"Heyman is an issue. A lot of people don’t consider that. I would have liked to have been there to at least even the odds. And it bothers me that I can't," Michaels said.

“Sometimes your anger and aggression can get the best of you. I would have liked to have been there if I saw Hunter going in a direction that wasn’t going to serve him well — at least be there to verbally express that.”

What will happen at SummerSlam?
Regardless of who wins on Sunday, the potential for injury against Lesnar is very real.

"If, and when, Brock does get a hold of Hunter, what kind of damage is he going to do? Is winning going to be OK with him and then he’ll stop?” HBK asked.

"That’s certainly not what he did with me. He made his point with me and he took it one step further by breaking my arm. And that obviously is the biggest concern — him doing something like that to Hunter and there being no one there to stop it."

What’s next for HBK?
"The one thing about being retired is that I heal faster now than when on the road," Michaels said.

When asked how his injury will affect the upcoming hunting season, HBK was very optimistic.

"It’s a month away. I think I’ll heal fine. If I have to, I’ll start out with a crossbow."
