WWE-Mattel Updates

Representatives from Mattel appeared at the Ringsidefest in New York City this week to take questions from fans in attendance. Below are some highlights:

* Sin Cara’s first figure will be released in April or May of next year. Other new figures debuting in the near future include Jinder Mahal, The Bella Twins, Jerry Lawler and CM Punk with a cloth version of his Best in the World t-shirt.

* Mattel reps have spoke with Zack Ryder about including his Internet Title on a future Ryder action figure. In regards to a replica Internet Title, Mattel said they would have to get Ryder’s permission first.

* New versions of the Diva figures are also being worked on, including Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly.

* As noted before, Jim Ross is working with Mattel on a new project but it’s too early for details. Ross will be helping them promote a new product.

* There will be a Miss Elizabeth figure available towards the end of this year online and if her figure sells well, they’re looking at doing one for Sherri Martel and others. Mattel had a good relationship with Randy Savage before he passed so his estate will allow them to produce new figures in the future.

* Mattel can’t make figures that break bones, bleed or bruise due to WWE’s PG content.

* Mattel is doing a series of figures with Toys R Us where each figure in a set comes with a piece and when you buy all the figures, the pieces assemble to make a Michael Cole figure. Mattel figured people would want a Cole figure but would not buy him.

* Mattel doesn’t have the rights to do Brock Lesnar figures as those are held by Jakks Pacific right now. They also don’t have rights to Matt Hardy figures and have no plans to do a figure on him.

* There will be no Owen Hart figure because Owen’s widow asked them not to do anything with him.

* They will be doing a Tribute to the Troops set with four Superstars next year through K-Mart that will be sold for charity. A Troops ring will also be available.

* Mattel wanted to do a figure for Steve Austin’s old Ringmaster gimmick but WWE wants the figures to represent their iconic versions, not the older versions right now.

He may have missed out on starring in the role he was born to play -- the lead in "Thor," of course -- but that doesn't mean his career hasn't thrived. Toxicology Results for Randy Savage

Macho Man Randy Savage died from a serious "cardiac event" he suffered moments before plowing his car into a tree last month -- this according to the Pinellas County Medical Examiner.

According to the medical examiner, Savage suffered from cardiovascular disease -- and the deadly "cardiac event" resulted from the condition.

According to the toxicology report, Savage tested positive for alcohol and hydrocodone (an opiate) during the time of his death ... but neither played a role in his death.

As we previously reported, the wrestler's brother said Savage experienced a heart attack before the accident -- and that's what caused him to lose control of his vehicle on a Florida highway and slam into a tree.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage's Cause Of Death Revealed

Lanny Poffo, Randy Savage's brother, revealed during an interview with Florida's Bright House Sports Network that the cause of death for "Macho Man" Randy Savage a couple of weeks ago is a condition called ventricular fibrillation. It is described as an abnormal heart arrhythmia that causes uncontrolled twitching of the heart preventing the heart from pumping blood. The condition is considered a cause of both fainting or heart attacks. Poffo said that his brother's death was "quick and painless".

Poffo mentioned the courage of Savage's widow, Lynn, during the crash by saying, "Randy's foot was still on the accelerator. She reached over and steered the Jeep Wrangler into a tree, saving the live of a motorcyclist and possibly a bus."

Vince McMahon Writes Article About Randy Savage

WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon has written an article on the late Randy Savage that will appear in the June 6th edition of TIME magazine:

"It's important in sports and it's important in entertainment to stand out. Randy knew that. Right away, he wanted to leave his mark, and to do that he was aware he had to make himself different from everyone else. One way he did this was concentrating on his outfits, those brightly colored costumes with foot long fringe that became his trademark. He brought to wrestling a unique look and style.

Randy, who died in a car crash May 20 at age 58, was one of the building blocks of what is now WWE (previously known as the World Wrestling Federation). He had a very unusual voice---remember his "snap into a Slim Jim. Oh, yeah!" commercials?--and was extremely charismatic. Perception is very important in this business, and he also had a very high opinion of himself, something he needed in a locker room full of performers who had been around for a while and had big personalities and followings--like Hulk Hogan. Today, Randy is remembered as one of wrestling's all time greats. No Question about it--he certainly was."

WWE Legend Comments on McMahon's Issues with the Macho Man

One of "The Macho Man" Randy Savage's greatest rivals from the 80's, George "The Animal" Steele, was on Busted Open with Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca, which airs Mondays and Wednesdays at 2-4 PM ET on Sirius 92 and XM 207.

"That's been said a lot of different ways, and there's been a lot of different things said that are not true necessarily."

"I think that what happened with Randy, when his career was winding down with the WWF, Vince McMahon just loved Randy," he continued. "After all everything Randy had done and he took him under his wing, and he wanted Randy after the ring was over with for him, he wanted him to be our spokesperson. He was traveling with Vince all the time. Randy was almost like a son, they were really tight. And then one day, we were at a TV meeting, and we got word that Randy, without calling Vince, had left and jumped to the WCW."

"I had never seen Vince McMahon broken before, he was crushed. It hurt him big time and I don't think he ever got over that. I think that's the real problem to be honest with you. I heard all this other stuff that I think is garbage when it comes to Randy and relationships with daughters and all that stuff... I don't think that's anywhere's close to the truth."

The Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage Action Figures at SD Comic Con

Today at the San Diego Comic Con, Mattel announced that both the Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage had been signed by the company to be part of their WWE Action Figures line.

The announcement that Savage would be part of the line got a huge ovation at the event. Of course, the "cold war" (other than last year's DVD release) between Savage and the WWE has gone on for years (for whatever reason), and this would be the first Savage action figure since the early 90's when WWE was working with Hasbro.

Given the demand over the years for Randy Savage action figures, this is a huge score for Mattel and shows how seriously they are taking the WWE line.
