El Generico-WWE Signing Update

While the initial word we received yesterday morning was that El Generico has signed with WWE, he actually has not signed.

We are told by several sources that he is undergoing his physical testing and upon passing, he will be signed. So, he has not signed yet, but will, barring any delays.

In the past, issues that came up during testing led to the delays in signing Daniel Bryan and Kassius Ohno and led to WWE yanking Nigel McGuinness' deal, so it's possible one could pop up.

Generico had pulled himself off Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's DDT 4 tournament in Los Angeles this weekend due to signing, but the promotion announced late today that he was back on despite "injury", which was his storyline exit. So, fans in California will get to see what may be Generico's potential final "home" indy date this weekend.

WWE Signs Top Indy Name, More to Come

WWE has signed El Generico to a deal, PWInsider.com confirmed this morning. As we noted several months back, the company has had interest in him and it's been Generico's goal since not signing with Ring of Honor to get into the company.

One of the reasons WWE was so interested in Generico was that he speaks a number of different languages. The feeling was that would in handy as an asset for international markets.

Generico was removed from this weekend's Pro Wrestling Guerrilla event in California and it appears may already be done on the independent scene. He returned to Ring of Honor at Final Battle 2012 in what may prove to be his last-ever match with longtime partner/rival Kevin Steen.

Generico's signing is said to be part of a bigger WWE plan as the company has a number of names on their radar that they want to lock in for deals. I am told it's a Triple H move and that there will be a lot more signings to come, as long as those the company are interested in can pass the necessary medical exams.

Rumor Mill - WWE Interested In ROH Star

It's being reported that WWE officials are interested in El Generico, a well-traveled independent wrestler who has competed in numerous promotions around the world and is a former Ring of Honor Wrestling World Television and World Tag Team Champion.

No word on if WWE would like to bring him in as an active wrestler or possibly as a trainer in their NXT developmental wrestling territory.
