WWE Saturday Morning Slam Recap 10/20/12

How Much WWE TV Is Too Much?
Raw's rating troubles are likely due to a combination of factors. Wrestling is not in a boom period right now. The move to a three-hour marathon ensured it would be a real challenge to keep fans invested for that length of time. The star power on the roster is pretty thin and there are way too few fresh match-ups available. Monday Night Football is back and offers strong competition most weeks. Additionally, the start of a new season for popular shows such as Castle probably siphons off a reasonable number of viewers.
For wrestling fans, though, it may really boil down to overexposure of the product and the recognition that anything of significance that happens on Raw can be seen recapped on Smackdown, on the company website or at the intro to the next ppv. We now have the new Main Event show on Wednesdays, Saturday Morning Slam and NXT on HULU.
How much is too much? And when does more become less interesting and important? Despite the common misconceptions and stereotypes, most pro-wrestling fans do have lives and can't afford to watch wrestling every waking moment, even if they wanted. They are also discriminating enough to pick what wrestling is worth watching and when.
In the territory days, a show each night of the week from different areas of the country featuring the various personalities of each promotion's top attractions could probably keep the interest of many fans, but watching the same roster of WWE superstars interacting endlessly on shows with different names on different channels is simply cutting the same pizza into smaller slices.

Rumor Mill - WWE Institutes New Rule Concerning Matches Taped For Saturday Morning Slam
According to several high level sources within WWE, the new Saturday Morning Slam show, set to debut on the CW Network on August 25th, will carry an interesting, unspoken match rule due to the fact that the show is geared towards children.
WZ has learned that the matches taped for Saturday Morning Slam are not to feature moves aimed at the neck, which would include anything from a simple headlock to an RKO.
At this point the feeling is that moves performed to the neck might come off as too violent, so WWE is avoiding any type of offense that gives the appearance of "snapping" or targeting the neck area.
It remains to be seen if this is a rule WWE will adhere to long term, but it's being said that the first match taped for Slam, which took place at this week's Smackdown taping, did not feature any offense aimed at the neck.

WWE Saturday Morning Show To Launch in 2 Weeks
Some big names are returning to Saturday morning television: Haim Saban and a colorful cadre of professional wrestlers.
In two weeks, the Los Angeles billionaire's company, Saban Brands, will launch a five-hour block of original children's programming called Vortexx. Aimed at young boys, the slate of shows will air on the CW television network and be anchored by "WWE Saturday Morning Slam," a new program produced by World Wrestling Entertainment.
The half-hour show, which debuts Aug. 25, marks the return of WWE to Saturday morning children's television after an 11-year absence. Saban Brands hopes to exploit the wrestlers' popularity among children to lift the Vortexx lineup of shows, which feature action-charged characters, including those from the Power Rangers and Yu-Gi-Oh brands...More?
