Why Triple H is the Smartest Man in Wrestling

The HHH/Orton match at Summerslam might not be happening at all. HHH is of the opinion that Orton is the strongest heel on Raw right now, and if he (HHH) comes back and pins him then it's not the right thing for business. HHH is pushing for Orton to take the title from Cena, believing Cena doesn't the need the belt and also thinking that Cena would be more over without it because he wouldn't get the backlash from being champion. HHH also thinks there is more money with Cena chasing Orton rather than defending against Orton. The feeling now is that HHH/Orton will take place at Survivor Series or Mania.

There's no point now wrestling with blame

Tom Knott has an article in the Washington Times that I think sums up my feeling on the Benoit matter. Below are some excerpts:

...Let's be adults here. We all know the deal with professional wrestling. It is make-believe mayhem that demands its practitioners to look like puffed-up characters out of a cartoon strip.

If you elect to find employment in this culture — because of the money, babes and lifestyle — you know the pact you are making.

You know you will be sacrificing your body in exchange for a quality of life that otherwise would be beyond your grasp.

What you do with the opportunity is up to you. It is not up to McMahon...

...It is impossible to know what demons were lurking in the dark crevices of Benoit's warped mind as he went about his grisly deed...

...When busty Chyna attacks McMahon, you feel compelled to ask: Why did you elect to curl up with a snake when you knew it could bite?

There is something called personal accountability, quaint as that notion is today.

Something bad happens nowadays, and the inclination is to cast a net of blame.

Unless authorities can place McMahon in Benoit's home at the time of the murder-suicide or show that he coerced Benoit into becoming a professional wrestler years ago, then it is all on Benoit.

He chose to be in the culture of professional wrestling and everything that goes with it.

And he chose to kill his wife and son, which is not as rare as it should be.

There is always another missing woman on the airwaves, and usually, the person of interest is the man who is or was in the woman's life, and he is not a professional wrestler...

They Shouldn't Be Alive

The Ultimate Warrior
Age: 48
Odds that he'll die before 2008: 20 to 1
Why he should be dead: For the better part of the late '90s, we actually thought the Warrior (his legal name since 1993) was dead. His disappearance from the ring sparked countless rumors of his demise, but the man once known as Jim "Justice" Hellwig is still alive and delivering rant-filled speeches to directionless college kids all over the country. The clip proves his brain is mostly dead, so his (probably) steroid-riddled body can't be far behind.
How he'll die: Years spent screaming at the top of his lungs and tying off his joints to make his veins pop result in an explosive brain aneurysm during one of The Warrior's tirades...

The have odds on other wrestlers including Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Ric Flair.

Hardly a hero: Wrestler was a bully and a killer

Clarence Seeliger is a DeKalb County Superior Court judge and the former chair of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence. He had this to say concerning the Benoit killings:

...The classic question whenever these types of crimes occur is "What happened to this 'good' man to make him spontaneously kill his wife and son?"

The question never should be asked in this case. It was not spontaneous. It was part of a long cycle, sadly familiar to those who deal with domestic violence. Benoit attempted to control the woman he said he loved by threats of violence. Failing that, he killed his wife and son, and in his last cowardly act, instead of facing the responsibility for his actions, hanged himself.

Georgia is tied for seventh in the nation in the category of men killing women. But things are changing. Nearly every judicial circuit in Georgia has a domestic violence task force coordinating the efforts of the community. There are now shelters throughout the state staffed with victim's advocates. Law officers undergo continuous training dealing with issues of domestic violence. But it is never enough...More?

Recap of RVD on AM 570 KLAC in Los Angeles

Rob Van Dam made some very good points during a radio interview yesterday. I still don't like this guy, so it pains me to agree with him. Below are some excerpts:

- RVD said he is still in shock that someone he knows committed these horrific acts.

- He said people have to realize the difference between using steroids and abusing steroids. RVD said abuse of any drug is bad.

- RVD said ‘roid rage’ takes over your mind for a moment.

- RVD said it’s scary to think about the turn Benoit made in real life.

- “They are of course,” said RVD of WWE getting unfair treatment from the media. RVD said, yes, the road schedule is demanding, but not all of us kill our families.

- RVD said he always speaks him mind, because he has no reason not too.

- RVD said he has seen the wellness policy help to straighten out a few younger wrestlers. He said he has seen guys go to rehab. RVD said the wellness policy is there for those that need help.

- He said his understanding of Eddy Guerrero’s death was caused by a variety of things including his former addiction to alcohol. “I don’t believe it was just steroids that killed Eddy,” said RVD.

- He said wrestlers have a choice to stay in the business and not to become an addict. RVD said CM Punk is an example of someone that doesn’t do drugs or even drinks.

- RVD said he would tell kids that are wrestling fans that wrestling didn’t kill Chris Benoit and his family, it was just the occupation he had...More?

WWE Fragile X Update and Comments from JR

"A lot of people got caught up in the idea Daniel had Fragile X syndrome. We were just as caught up as everyone else. I think we have to go with what the district attorney has said as being the best, up-to-date information available right now."

Those were the words of WWE Spokesperson Gary Davis in an AP story today...More?

and from JR's Blog

...It would be naive and inaccurate to say that it was business as usual in the locker room, but I can honestly say that the athletes are enduring these catastrophic circumstances as well as one could expect and that is largely, in my opinion, due to their respective faith and through the support of their family and friends...

and he had this to say concerning the mainstream media's attitude towards professional wrestling

...I got into wrestling in 1974 and the ‘media” has NEVER covered wrestling regularly or positively as a rule. Most of the media’s egocentric stars won’t allow themselves to admit they either watch or used to watch wrestling. Straight laced sportscasters don’t consider wrestling a legitimate sport and the entertainment writers generally don’t consider wrestling as “good” entertainment no matter the fact that Monday Night Raw for example is the top rated cable TV series in existence. The only time the media generally covers wrestling is when a “mainstream celeb” is involved or there is a tragedy or a headline grabbing controversy. I don’t know why this is the way it is but it isn’t anything new...More?

Location of Benoit Wiki-Imposter/Chris and the Ex-Wife?

The IP address (69.120.111.23) has been tracked back to Pepper Ridge Road & Turner Road in Stamford, CT, not far from the WWE headquaters.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Chris Benoit took out a new life insurance policy, which listed his ex-wife and oldest child David, 14, and Megan, 10, as the beneficiaries. Nancy apparently confronted Chris about it and he refused to change it. Nancy also found out that Chris Benoit set up a new bank account in the name of his ex-wife in Edmonton.

DEA Knew Of Benoit's Excessive Steroid Buys

Wrestler Chris Benoit was identified by Drug Enforcement Administration agents as an "excessive purchaser of injectable steroids" who, over the past year, was prescribed a 10-month supply of anabolic steroids every three to four weeks by a Georgia doctor who was indicted today on federal charges. Benoit, who last week murdered his wife and son before committing suicide, came to the attention of DEA agents probing RX Weight Loss, a Marietta company...More?

The 25 Worst Rapper Names of All Time

A good rap name is like good rap: it sounds effortless without coming off sloppy, and it never tries too hard. Whether its vibe is biblical (Hova), comic book villain (Biggie Smalls) or comic book hero (Method Man); whether the name is self-imposed (Big Baby Jesus) or God-given (Kanye West and Tupac Shakur didn't really have a choice, now did they?) you know when you've heard a good rap name. And just as certainly, you know when you've heard a bad one. We count down the 25 worst.

Control issues cited instead of 'roid rage' in Benoit killings

Domestic violence experts downplay the possible role of steroids in the Chris Benoit killings, saying the tragedy was more about Benoit's anger over control issues at home.

Steroid usage has been linked to angry outbursts called "roid rage," and depression when usage stops.

But in the case of Benoit, who apparently killed his wife and 7-year-old son during the weekend of June 24 before committing suicide, "that was a premeditated act and that's not rage," said Dr. Gary Wadler of New York, who studies the use of drugs in sports...More?
