20/20 To Investigate Dateline

An ABC News insider confirms to TVNewser that 20/20 is "working on a piece" related to one of Dateline's "To Catch A Predator" stories. According to the Dallas Morning News "a film crew cornered Murphy, [TX] Police Chief Billy Myrick last week for an interview in the City Hall parking lot." Myrick is at the center of a controversy involving the popular NBC News series.

An Esquire story, on newstands now, explains what happened in the Dallas suburb, which culminated with the suicide of a former prosecutor.

In addition to the media scrutiny, Dateline is the target of a lawsuit filed by the dead prosecutor's sister. Dateline's executive producer, David Corvo, told the Morning News that criticisms of the show are dwarfed by its accolades. "Host Chris Hansen "'could make a living just going to children and parent safety groups to receive all the awards he's been given or offered,' Corvo said."

Plea Deal Likely for Michael Vick

NFL quarterback Michael Vick is likely to plead guilty to dogfighting charges, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.

Two sources told the paper that the Atlanta Falcons star's decision is based on what it will do to his football career.

"It is a very good chance he will plead guilty," one source told the paper on condition of anonymity. "He definitely wants to play football again. His love is for football. And he would love to play for the Falcons again. But first and foremost is to get back on the field."...More?

Comments about TNA

From phillyburbs.com:

...TNA is a mess. They won’t pay for Sonjay Dutt’s MRI but they will pay a suspended NFL player to stand around for 10 weeks? Could you imagine walking around the locker room injured, unable to pay your medical expenses, and look across and see a man who threw $80,000 at a stripper? They have all of this great young talent on the roster that consistently gets the shaft. Besides AJ Styles short NWA Title reign a few years ago, how many of those guys have even sniffed the main event for more than a few shows?

The only way TNA could compete with the WWE is to present more athletic matches and feature your younger talents. It would take several weeks to repackage and establish them as main eventers, but the process is a necessity to success. Continue to push Kurt Angle, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, and Christian in your main events. Nobody cares!

The politics and nepotism in TNA will never allow the company to showcase their true talents and make a serious dent in the wrestling scene. Kurt Angle predicted that within a year that TNA would be bigger than the WWE. Well Kurt the year is almost up, and its not looking good.

Congress Sends Letter to TNA & NWA Requesting Drug Prevention Records

Congressman Cliff Stearns has joined Congressman Bobby Rush in requesting drug prevention records from wrestling organizations other than World Wrestling Entertainment. The two Congressmen have requested drug prevention records and drug program details from TNA, not to mention the National Wrestling Alliance -- which is a large governing body of small indy wrestling promotions. They want the information by close of business on August 28th. The following press release was put out on the official United States House of Representatives website.

Inheritances tied to order of Benoit deaths

The family of Chris Benoit's wife is questioning whether she or her son died first at the hands of her husband nearly two months ago. The answer could determine who inherits millions of dollars from the pro wrestler's estate.

Authorities say Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, on June 22 and then killed their son, Daniel, the next day before taking his own life at their Fayetteville home.

If Nancy, who did not have a will, died first, then her estate would flow into Daniel's, said Cary Ichter, one of the two Atlanta-based attorneys for Benoit's father, Michael. That means Daniel's two half-siblings from Chris Benoit's previous marriage would stand to inherit Benoit's fortunes, which include two lavish homes, several bank accounts and lucrative investments, Ichter said.

But if Daniel died first, then the estate would have flowed to Nancy before her death. In that case, her family stands to reap the inheritance...More?

Benoit doctor says search was illegal

A lawyer for Chris Benoit's personal doctor asked a judge Monday to throw out evidence seized from his client's office days after the pro wrestler killed his family and himself.

Dr. Phil Astin's attorney, Manny Arora, said in a filing in federal court in Atlanta that agents overstepped their authority in the June 27 raid on Astin's west Georgia office by taking records of six patients other than Benoit, as well as three years of bank records and two computers.

The search, the first of three at Astin's office, came two days after Benoit, his wife and son were found dead in their suburban Atlanta home in what police said was a murder-suicide...More?
