World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon's nomination to the state Board of Education was approved this afternoon by the General Assembly's executive and legislative nominations committee. Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell nominated McMahon, a Greenwich resident whose WWE offices are in Stamford, last month.
Despite concerns from some Democrats about McMahon's lack of qualifications and the violent and sexual content of WWE entertainment, Sen. Majority Leader and committee chairman Martin Looney, D-New Haven, voted in her favor. Looney afterward said McMahon handled herself well during the hearing and believes it is important to have representatives from diverse backgrounds on the state school board.
Rep. Shawn Johnston, D-Putnam, was one of a handful of "no" votes. "I think this individual has made a living off a really lousy product that does harm to our youth," Johnston said before casting his vote.
McMahon's nomination now goes to the full House and Senate for approval.

KYDA Pro Wrestling at Career Day
It was career day at Metz Middle School in Manassas on Tuesday and 60 professionals came to share some of their “real world” experience.
Firefighters, police officers, business owners and even professional wrestlers showed up just after 9 a.m., each of them escorted to their own classroom full of 7th and 8th grade students full of questions.
“One of my favorite was ’do you have health insurance?’” said James A. Zaveski, owner of KYDA Pro Wrestling. “I thought it was a great question because everyone always asks about how much you make, but never about benefits.” Zaveski is a former Manassas Park high school counselor turned business owner.
“I think the main thing here is to tell these kids that even though they may not want to be wrestlers, there is the account that helps the wrestler out, there is the business manager that promotes the wrestler. It’s important they never give up on their dreams,” said Zaveski...More?

The New Shawn Michaels?
I read somewhere, probably back in December, that the reason why Brian Kendrick got a shiny new bodyguard, was so that WWE creative could start grooming him to be the new Shawn Michaels.
At first glance, the two have similar characteristics. Both had fairly successful tag-team careers, and Kendrick still seems to, albeit aided by a monster of a bodyguard name Ezekiel Jackson, much like HBK's Diesel in the 90's.
Both have fairly high-flying tendencies with their repertoire of moves as well. Kendrick has tried to add more substantial moves, but so far has faltered, much like HBK did in the early part of his career
So here's where I put my foot down. Kendrick can't be the new HBK, because there is a better option on every front.
His name? "The Shaman of Sexy," John Morrison...More?
