One Year Ago: TNA vs. WWE Monday Night War II

One year ago today, TNA iMPACT! moved to Monday nights to compete against WWE Raw. That night, Hulk Hogan made his debut with TNA, while Bret Hart made his WWE return. Four months later, iMPACT! moved back to Thursday nights. They were not able to compete against Raw in the ratings.

A year later, iMPACT!'s tv ratings are basically the same, and their World Champion has been indicted on drug charges and plans on pleading guilty to them.

A year later, the WWE has embraced their youth movement and made The Miz, a former reality tv star, WWE Champion. Their tv ratings have basically remained the same also.

Jeff Hardy's Plea and TNA

Mark Madden strikes again. He posted the following on Wrestlezone.com:

Let’s say Alex Rodriguez was arrested in possession of 262 doses of Vicodin, 180 somas, 55 ml of anabolic steroids, residual traces of cocaine powder and drug paraphernalia, then pled guilty to lesser drug charges by way of dodging jail time, would Major League Baseball take punitive action? DAMN RIGHT.

If Lebron James got pinched holding 262 doses of Vicodin, 180 somas, 55 ml of anabolic steroids, residual traces of cocaine powder and drug paraphernalia, then pled guilty to lesser drug charges by way of dodging jail time, would the National Basketball Association take punitive action? DAMN RIGHT.

That’s how the sports world works. Major corporations like U.S. Steel and AT&T, too. That’s how the world works.

It’s not how TNA works. Jeff Hardy is still TNA world champion. Still one of the promotion’s major foci. TNA isn’t punishing, or even FLINCHING. TNA can’t think Hardy is innocent, because he’s ADMITTING HE’S GUILTY.

Tells you all you need to know about TNA.

Entertainment Weekly: "Bring Back Al Snow"

Entertainment Weekly writer Margaret Lyons has an article up looking at the return of WWE "Tough Enough" to the USA Network on April 4 and why the company should bring back former star Al Snow for the series.

"They have to bring back Al Snow. A USA rep says the show is still in its really, really early phases, and that decisions about judges and mentors haven't been made yet. Snow isn't with the WWE anymore, so I know it's a long shot, but still: Snow's mentorship and training absolutely made that show. (That fourth season doesn't exist in my world.) He was so strict and serious sometimes, and then so goofy and jovial at other — I'm not a wrestling fan, but he was so compelling that I got completely sucked into the series."...More?

Update on Martha Hart vs. WWE Lawsuit; Hart Backs Off Claims That Vince & Linda McMahon Never Apologized For Owen's Death

Owen Hart's widow Martha Hart has backed off claims that Vince and Linda McMahon never apologized to her after Owen's death during a WWF PPV event in May 1999.

In a filing on 12/20 in the United States District Court of Connecticut, all parties in the currently ongoing lawsuit between Hart and the Owen Hart Foundation against World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon, all sides requested that Martha's allegations that there was no apology be removed from the lawsuit filing.

Based on the paperwork, attorneys representing the McMahons presented the court with "sworn testimony" dated July 2002 of Hart discussing an apology she received from Vince McMahon during a conversation in which Linda McMahon was also present.

Hart's side has until 1/15 to respond to WWE's most recent statements in the case. The two sides had a settlement negotiation last month but were unable to reach terms.

Hart's lawsuit claims World Wrestling Entertainment violated their original 2000 Settlement Agreement in the wake of Owen Hart's death, that WWE violated the family's privacy with the release of Owen Hart matches and the "Hart & Soul" DVD documentary, that WWE intimates the Owen Hart Foundation endorses their company with the release of Hart's matches and that the rights to Owen's footage reverted back to his estate upon his death.

WWE has responded that their 2000 Settlement Agreement with Hart, ending her wrongful death lawsuit over Owen's passing, sealed all future claims against the company while Owen's WWF performer contract signed over his likeness and rights for WWF (later WWE, obviously) to reproduce for their purposes.
