Was Abraham Lincoln Really A Wrestler?

After Stephanie McMahon mentioned on Bloomberg TV that Abraham Lincoln was a wrestler, Feminine Smark did some research and found the following from www.mrlincolnandfriends.org:

“There was a big fellow named Jack Armstrong, strong as a Russian bear, that I could not put down; nor could he get me on the ground,” Mr. Lincoln once recalled. “I suppose you have heard of Lincoln’s wrestling match with Jack Armstrong. I saw part of that. [Jack] Armstrong was one of the Clary Grove gang and it was their habit to initiate newcomers into town. Lincoln was tall, ungainly, awkward, and was bantered by this crowd,” recalled New Salem resident Daniel Green Burner. “These fellows would come into New Salem, get drunk, and would handle a novice roughly. Lincoln finally wagered Armstrong $10 that he could find a man who could throw him. The challenge was accepted and the next Saturday was set for the time. When the Armstrong gang arrived Lincoln told them that his man had not yet come. They waited around and became impatient and finally Armstrong demanded of Lincoln the $10. Lincoln replied:

‘Look here, Jack, my man isn’t here yet, but rather than lose that $10 I will wrestle with you myself.’

Burner continued: “They went at it, and Lincoln just fooled with Armstrong until he had tired him completely out. Then he swung his long leg over Armstrong’s neck and made Armstrong run around holding him up in that position. Jack finally begged off, admitting he was beaten and offered Lincoln the $10, which Lincoln refused to take. The two were ever afterward warm friends. I saw all the last part of this match, and it was highly amusing. The story about Lincoln rubbing smartweed in his face is untrue.”

Ric Flair Fails to Appear at Advertised Event

TNA returned to MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY for a Basebrawl event. It was a very good and entertaining show with the only downside being that Ric Flair, who was the focal point of advertising and was pushed as appearing, did not appear before the live crowd. Flair was there and did a signing for VIP ticketholders that purchased a special ticket but did not come out before the crowd, although both Don West and Jeremy Borash plugged that he would. The word making the rounds after the show was that Flair had turned down the request to come out before the crowd and left the venue before the show ended.

Flair: There's absolutely no excuse for Ric Flair to have not made an appearance on the show before the live crowd. It is ludicrous when you realize that he turned down the chance to come out and do a quick, non-physical segment before one of the larger crowds TNA will draw this summer and possibly this year to a live event. As soon as the show ended, everyone sitting around me asked what happened to Flair. It made TNA look totally bush league, because to the average fan there, it appeared that Don West and Jeremy Borash pushed that someone was there when they really weren't. There is no excuse to ever put TNA or its talents in that position, especially when Flair is making well into six figures annually from his TNA salary. For Flair not to come out, cut a quick promo, drop a "Woo" and leave as the legend the fans view him as is just another sad chapter in a man chipping away at his own aura. To leave TNA, who's been paying him a handsome salary, holding the bag, is inexcusable but sadly not surprising.

Jim Ross Comments on Shawn Michaels and Triple H's Gator Hunting

"Shawn Michaels hit me about going on a hog hunt with him in the future on his new Outdoor Life Network show. What's better than fresh, smoked hog with JR's BBQ Sauce. HHH went on an alligator hunt with HBK this week for an episode of Shawn's Outdoor Life Network show with an air date TBA. 'The Game and The Gator' should be the title of that broadcast. I'll stick to watching 'Swamp People' and leave the Gator hunting to others."

Film Aims to Show Football's Culture of Playing Despite Concussions

The documentary's title alone is telling. To ring someone's bell in football is to hit them hard -- really hard -- usually in the skull. Levens believes that by speaking to fellow players in their own dialect, "locker-room language," he can persuade them to be frank about their injuries and conditions, especially concussions.

It's a topic that generally makes players reticent around reporters, doctors and NFL officials...More?
