Vince McMahon speaks in ESPN documentary "The Real Rocky"

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was interviewed on the ESPN documentary "The Real Rocky." The story focussed on the boxing career of Chuck Wepner, who was the inspiration for Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky" movies.

McMahon spoke about Wepner's match with Andre the Giant at Shea Stadium. Wepner said the match inspired the Hulk Hogan role in "Rocky 3." Vince was featured again at the end of the documentary and said he would advise Stallone to settle his lawsuit that Wepner filed against him, which Stallone eventually did.

No Word On Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight

Boxing could be enjoying a major B-12 shot right now. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. could be hyping the second in a highly lucrative series of fights. They could be setting up other contenders for when that well runs dry. Someone could be trying to make sense of the dropped dinner plate that is the heavyweight division.

Instead, Pacquiao is mulling offers for rematches that mean nothing while Mayweather is riding his Segway around a mansion paid for by fans who had some foolish expectation he was a competitor. And their sport is sinking into the ground.

Of the trifecta of pay-per-view attractions in this country -- the UFC, the WWE and boxing -- only the UFC and WWE have anything approaching a steady business. When boxing offers an event that features neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao, it sinks like a stone. And even with those two, 2009's Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto and Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez bouts failed to exceed the buy rates for UFC 100. The boxer who devours most of the media's attention, Mike Tyson, hasn't fought in five years and will never fight again...More?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Defeats Shane Mosely in Unanimous Decision

The Genius Of Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Caricature (And Character) Outsells Talent

“The thing people need to realize is that ‘Money’ Mayweather is a (caricature/character). And that’s what these fighters need to learn about business. If you had a character you’d have something to sell. But a lot of these fighters don’t have nothing to sell because they don’t have any personality.”

With those words, spoken by the boxer himself, and made available on a hidden away interview placed On Demand (and not during the first two episodes of HBO’s 24/7) Floyd Mayweather Jr. lays out a lesson I wish every artist would pay attention to if they were serious about succeeding in the marketplace, and not just being famous or good at what they do...More?

Muhammad Ali Comes to Life Through His Foes' Eyes

December 23, 2009

Guest of Iron

Very familiar with being the center of attention inside the squared circle, Mike Tyson is ready to return to the ring. Unlike old times, however, the former heavyweight championship boxer will not be slipping on the gloves and delivering knockout punches (maybe). He will, on the other hand, be delegating responsibility to WWE Superstars as Monday Night Raw’s special guest host on Jan. 11 from Minneapolis.

The self-proclaimed “Baddest Man on the Planet” has never been one to hide his feelings or shy away from the spotlight. One of the most newsworthy and notorious sports celebrities in American history, Tyson will surely be prepared for all challenges on Raw...More?

Mayweather/Pacquiao & Triple H/Batista

Dave Batista is placing his bet again on Pacquiao when the Filipino ring icon and undefeated American superstar Floyd Mayweather face off in a mega bout slated for March 13.

“I think Manny is going to kill him. And I believe that,” the Filipino-Greek Batista said during a press conference Saturday. “Even if I wasn’t a fan, just watching him in the ring, he’s so impressive. He’s in a different league.”

Batista, who stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 290 pounds, also admits to getting a lot of ribbing from fellow wrestling star and boxing fan Triple H.

“Triple H is kinda tight with Floyd Mayweather so there’s a constant argument with us,” Batista said laughing. “But at the end of the day he knows that I’m right.”...More?
